From strangers on the street, to your closest friends and family - even if you're not speaking, you're saying a lot with your body.
"Body Language" explores the way we use our bodies to communicate, the way we hold ourselves, the way we sit, stand, and point our hands, feet and eyes can all reveal how we are feeling in any given situation. This book explores the body language we use in a wide-range of business and personal-life scenarios, from delivering a presentation at work to how you should act on a first date!
Packed with images to clearly demonstrate each of the scenarios discussed, "Body Language" will help you understand the way others around you choose to communicate and also what you are saying with your own body. These valuable skills will improve your day to day communication, helping you to judge situations and understand how others around you are feeling.
Use "Body Language" to: Harness the power of your own body language Communicate confidently to all of those around you Dip in and out of useful scenarios to find the best advice for you Understand people's hidden emotions and learn what you are hiding yourself Tackle those important life events, such as interviews, first dates, important meetings and more!
This is the first book on body language that I read the whole way through. I found it quite interesting. There were a few sections that were inapplicable to me but over all it made sense.
One thing I like about this book is the last chapter and the summary.
No matter when or from where you start this book you'll won't miss anything because the entire book is religiously repetitive on how to read non verbal communication & present yourself so that you don't look stupid or aggressive.
Everything is basic knowledge in this book, but give it a try on others you'll see how many people lack basic etiquette & knowledge no matter where you're from. Probably you might be one of them, this book help you check that too like in every chapter.
“The human body is the best picture of the human soul.” –Ludwig Wittgenstein
Body language books have a bad reputation for being complete nonsense, this one is not the case, but that's because the body language is so basic that only people with no understanding of human emotions would find it useful. If you can draw a happy face, a sad face and an angry face, and you're confident that other people would accurately interpret the emotions of your sketches, then this book is not for you. However, I do respect the author for not making up their own untested theories like some other books.
Pacing requires acknowledging a person, being patient with them, and giving them your full attention. Open your eyes and aim to look at the other person 65-85% of the time while they're speaking. Lean in slightly towards the other person while they're speaking. Smile to demonstrate that you value them. If you want the speaker to carry on, open-handed gestures in combination with leaning in and nodding your head encourage the speaker to continue.
