With a Scottish father born in Calcutta, who lived in Italy and has a fine wine company, and a Dutch mother who lived in Trinidad and thinks chocolate sprinkles are a suitable toast topping (its a Dutch thing) its no surprise that I have developed a keen interest in foods of the world and a rather sweet tooth.
After completing a photography degree I turned my interests to food styling. Once trained I assisted many leading food stylists before joining the food team at Seven where I honed my skills writing recipes, testing, developing and food styling for numerous Sainsbury’s magazines and cook books.
Since going freelance I write, test, develop and food style for stills, video, publishing, packaging and editorial projects. Regularly contributing to client projects and publications detailed below.
I Bought this book just over a year ago, as I bake & sell gingerbread at Christmas time. The basic dough recipe is the best I've ever made & the book is filled with ideas & tips. I'd highly recommend it.
Cute! A photo of every recipe, which is wonderful. The basic gingerbread recipes (light and dark dough) are slightly more complicated than the one I'm currently using, but I think would work quite well and the added zest sounds delicious.
For molded cookies, the author offers three recipes: Glass-Pressed Sandwich Cookies, Speculaas, and Gingerbread Spiced Springerle.
perhaps my favorite gingerbread book i read this season - although not with the most complex houses or highest level of architecture - it had many other ideas for gingerbread over the holidays ranging from simple to more complex.
I LOVE gingerbread so this book was a no brainer for me and it didn't disappoint. There's loads of recipes I intend trying this festive season - some biscuits, cupcakes, a cake and lebkuchen to name a few - I can't wait😋😋😋😋
Lovely photos, and some helpful tips, set into boxes. I didn't try the recipes, since I'm gluten-free. But I may make that Gingerbread Apple Strudel Tart.
This is the perfect gingerbread cookbook. It is small and the directions for each recipe is easy to follow and uses ingredients you probably have in your pantry.

I’m not sure what I expected from this non-fiction recipe book! Mm, but the cover makes me drool. I’m a fan of both sweet gingerbread (think the gingerbread men you can buy from bakeries) and spicy gingerbread (more like a biscuit).
What I liked most about this was that it was easy to make the base recipes, but you could fancy it up if you liked – there a templates for producing all kinds of cool houses. Sinclair explains why the timing in the oven is important and other such baking tips – which are so important for a beginning baker feeling like they can succeed.
Despite making a couple of really simple gingerbread men, I don’t really have time to do all of the recipes – and I think you’d be best saving your favourite ones, because I’m not sure how long you’d want to keep this book. The varieties are good, but it’s not an exhaustive source of cookies.
I’ll be giving this as a Christmas gift to a close family member. They love baking, and have young kids that will really benefit from the cute gingerbread houses.
