I was totally hoodwinked by this book but not because it's a bad book per se. You see the Amazon price for the paperback was $44.67 and there was no cheaper option.

Yes, FORTY FOUR DOLLARS for a PAPERBACK.

As you probably know, that is rather a lot of money, usually reserved for best selling hardbacks by award-winning authors.

So I hesitated quite a bit but I convinced myself that they wouldn't charge that much if it wasn't worth it.

It's not.

You can get very similar information in other books such as "Negotiating Your Salary" by Jack Chapman (which is currently available for $6.00 on Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/Negotiating-Yo... ) or for free online: https://www.kalzumeus.com/2012/01/23/...

So unless, they significantly lower the price, I'd say save your money.

A few interesting ideas and knowledge in this book, but nothing revolutionary. The book is filled with repetition of the same content and several page summary reiterating what has just been say. In the end, the book could be half its size.

Then the content is mostly obvious I'd say. Maybe because I'm already a bit old with some experience. There's still some interesting ideas and concepts that less experienced people could learn and benefits from, so it's not totally unworthy either. Anyway, it's a quick read, and I'll probably get back to it as a reference if I need it later when changing jobs, or asking for a promotion.

Title is misleadingly narrow.

I consider the portions about how to grow to get paid more in your current and future jobs the real gem of this book. Wish I had read that portion of the book in my first few working years.

Excellent book at what it claims to be. It may be $40, but it will get you thousands in a raise or at your next job. Completely demystifies the salary negotiation process, and provides step by step instructions and even formulas to arm you with everything you need for this potentially scary and/or awkward job search necessity. Even the interview advice is solid and full of example scenarios and artifacts. I pulled it off the shelf numerous times during my job search this year; it's a must-have handbook.

Despite reading this book I failed in getting a raise in my first job.

It talks about some important things to take into consideration while we go into the salary negotiation phone call.

This was recommended to me by intern mentor at $AMZN when I told him I've a return offer from Amazon but the salary is very less.

This is great book!

The author gives very interesting perspective of the negotiation side of things, however he says you actually need to prove that you deserve a pay-rise/title change and should reconsider if you are not able to argument yourself.

Absolute must read, especially for people who are job hunting. :)

Most things covered are common sense advice, although there were a few things that stood out to me, like pay grades and whatnot. It's a short and easy read, so for those who want to possibly learn something new in salary negotiation, it's worth a read.

Quick read, very practical, targeted against starting / mid-range jobs. Good for looking up before different parts of a negotiation I would imagine.

"Never split the Difference" is better towards negotiation in generel, but for this very specific and important matter, book is great

A good read. Kind of an upper-tier company structure is followed. Mid-level companies or small-scale companies are highly unlikely to follow this structure. However, gives you a way of measurements and questioning. Kudos to Josh for this work.

Worth reading; if the content doesn't seem basic that's probably a problem.

I bought this book on Kindle. Really loved getting an insider's look at how the hiring and promotion process works. Good for confidence when you're headed in to talk to the boss during your annual review!

Super straight forward reference guide for determining and asking for the salary you feel you deserve. I knew a lot of these tips but it's good to have it all in one place for the next time I need it.

Concise, quick read.

Very straightforward; mostly common sense. But there are some good nuggets of information, and the book reinforces what most high-performing employees should already know. Glad I could get through this on a short plane ride!

God resource

Short, sweet, and to the point. I read it in one sitting, but will definitely be going back forcer to it in the future. I recommend T to any professional as a good resource for learning to better negotiate for promotions, raises, and new jobs,

The templates he provides for emails at various points of the negotiation are very useful. I found his methods run recruiters crazy and only work with the actual companies, but doing a bit of retrospective, I never got a job from a recruiter, so, this might be an asset, not a problem.

The author sets out strategies for obtaining a raise or promotion, a new job or a departure from your current job, enphasizing what is important 5th o the ones empowered to grant or deny these things. The idea is theat the reader can use this to organize his or her case in the best possible way while avoiding pitfalls. It is a short business book, easily digested.
