It's been a long, hard road for Mattie's relatively short life. She's had heartache and heartbreak for two lifetimes. She's ready to hunker down and take care of herself, her cat, and her business, but the world has other plans.
The witch community has had enough of the Coven and their restrictive ways and they are looking for someone to challenge the leaders. Mattie has never been interested in leading, politics, or any of the hogwash that comes with it. But sometimes Fate doesn't give you a choice. Mattie will face her demons, old and new, in this new chapter of her life and maybe, for once, she'll get some answers about that fateful night when she was sixteen years old and became an orphan.
Like so many other writers, Shauna grew up as an avid reader, but it was in high school that she realized she wanted to be a writer. She released the first installment of her Paranormal YA Series, The Elemental Series, Earth, on May 1, 2011 and has since released four sequels, with the series coming to an end with Spirit. In December of 2013 she release the first in her Paranormal Post-Apocalyptic trilogy, World of Ash. She is currently hard at work on one too many projects, trying to organize the many voices in her head. It's a writer thing.
Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. It was a good book, that captivated the audience and made them want to continue reading. However, the ending was terrible!
Furthermore, in the earlier books, the stories of Mattie and her friends became more and more disbelieving, however, this is really farfetched. But, I really like the whole SyFy, modern day fantasy thing Granger has going on.
To give a quick summary of the book: Mattie is wallowing in despair over her breakup with Cole, when Ronnie comes to the rescue and gets Mattie's ass into gear. Then she is contacted by a friend of a friend to help someone. However, it does not go as expected. But, Mattie and everyone else involves makes it out alive, and Mattie finds out that there are rogue witches trying to overthrow the Coven and they want Mattie to join their cause.
Mattie wants nothing to do with it and leaves them be. However, they will not be pushed aside. After a series of tests, Mattie finds out the truth about what happened to her parents al those years ago, including the Coven's involvement. But, in doing so, she finds herself on the wrong end of the human law and in danger of being collared...
The book was well written and, as said before, captivating. I've read all the books about Mattie in the past few days, and this is the first one to leave me dissatisfied. This because of the ending. The previous books ended with some sort of closure. They defeated the bad guy, someone either left in cuffs or a collar, and Mattie went home with her friends. However, this book did not.
I like happy endings. And sometimes I even like open endings like this one. But, an ending like this without saying when the next book comes out is just crappy!
Well, let's hope Granger is a very fast writer, because I really, really, REALLY want to know how it all ends!
