Prince legacy of darkness by Phoenix garrett wright.
The Best Vampire Novel in the last 20 years. Hear the tale of Darkness from the world's first vampire. A perfect blend of action and depth! Reminiscent of John Milton's, "Paradise Lost" and Anne Rice', "Memnoch the Devil. Before earth there was light. Before light there was darkness. Join the world's first vampire, as he narrates a tale that starts before the universe was created, and into a future that might bring forth the end of days. Prince: Legacy of Darkness had the potential to be a strong book. It involved vampires who had come straight from hell, corrupted humanity, witches in league with Satan and an actual tour of hell itself. Unfortunately, I struggled to remain focused due to there being so much talk! This is a novel that would have benefited from being reduced by about 1/3 and it would have been a lot stronger.

The plot should have been full of tension and anticipation. War has come to the vampires, but considering their strength and that of their opponents, the witches, killing each other isn’t so easy. Despite the vampires combining powers such as speed, teleportation, flight, able to withstand the sun, control the elements and be immune to magic, there could have been some fantastic fights. Instead, they spent most of the time watching from the side-lines and commenting.

There were multiple characters, but the novel mainly focuses on Lucifer – the first vampire – and his favourite fledgling, Prince. At the beginning, the introduction of the other vampires was overwhelming due to their number and the number of names being thrown around, but eventually, you figure out who is who.

Some of the names gave me issue. For example, Balam and Barbas are both witches, although one turns to the side of the vampires. There was more than one passage where I ended up completely confused about which character was being spoken about because similar names were just being launched at me.

This book disappointed me. There was so much in-depth discussion and description. A vampire reporting wouldn’t summarise; the entire scene will be written out as if it was just happening. Some of the dialogue was hard to keep track of who was saying what. It felt as if the book never got itself going other than to comment on the actions of others.

When I started Prince: Legacy of Darkness, I wasn’t sure I would get through it. While it got stronger, it took a long time to engage and even then, the tension was lacking.

This is a very long book. If you intend to read it, be sure to set enough time aside for it. To be fair to Wright, I'm not sure how this book could have told the story he wanted while being a shorter book. There is a lot of content here with a fairly good balance between exposition/story telling and action.

Fair warning about the action, this book is not for the feint of heart or stomach. Several scenes involve copious amounts of blood. Then there are the depictions of Hell that left me feeling nauseated. I won't go into details, but you have been warned.

I have to admit, I probably won't read the next installment. I read all 600+ pages of this book and never felt emotionally or intellectually invested in any of the characters. The entire book is told from the perspective of Lucifer and it's no surprise he used to manage the Gate of Pride in Hell. He's arrogant and prideful to a fault, but clearly such is the nature of the character. I never feel that any one group, humans, vampires or witches are in the right. They all seem like they're doing the wrong thing, especially when the story is from the perspective of someone who thinks they're all inferior anyways.

Probably my biggest complaint about this book is that there are so many typos and punctuation errors. It may have just been the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) I received, but there were so many spelling and editing errors that need to be cleaned up.

Review:

This book is a DNF, I couldn’t connect with the story line, which I find weird since this is my favorite genre. I’ve spent eight days trying to connect with this book, but couldn’t even get past the first chapter.

Summary:

Would you recommend this book to others? NO, because if I couldn’t connect with it I doubt any of my friends could.

Would I read other books by this author? Unsure

Is this book a novel or novella? Nice length Novel

Is this book priced correctly? Way over priced I’d never pay that kind of money for a paperback book.

This is the story of the paranormal, vampires, witches, angels. werewolves and demons before there were humans, while there are humans and perhaps after the humans were gone. Prince is being taught the history by Lucifer. Of course Prince sees no need for history as war erupts between various factions seeking power and glory. I found myself skimming through parts of the book, it seems to drag and and lacked excitement. I found myself hoping Lucifer survived the many battles.

Seemed to Drag Too Much Prince was being taught the history of his kind by Lucifer, who was the first vampire. Then the vampires were being attacked by witches and humans. There was just too much going on and a lot of the story seemed to drag. I don't recommend**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review
