In this refreshingly amusing self-help guide, body image expert Summer Innanen gives you the low-down on why changing your body image isn’t about changing your body—it’s about changing your mindset. With her not-so-PG stories and cheeky advice, you’ll learn how to unconditionally love yourself and unleash the radiant, badass woman within. This book will help you to discover, challenge and reset the beliefs that are holding you back from being unapologetically you in today’s perfection-obsessed society. By the end of the book, you’ll be able to get on with the life you’ve been putting on hold and stop letting the scale, your jean size, dietary macros and Fitbit points dictate your self-worth. Whether you’re ready to wholeheartedly abandon the idea that your life will be better 10 pounds from now or if you are simply body-posi-curious, Summer Innanen will help you explore a new way of thinking that bucks everything our body-obsessed culture shoves down our throats.
i love love LOVED this book so much and lover Summers attitude and words. Her words really resignates with me and I feel as if she truly understands and "hears" me, which I do not feel that way about any people or books!
This book is amazing. I love all the journaling activities. They are so helpful and eye opening. This book is highly recommended for anyone struggling with disordered eating OR just needing direction in life.
life is hard. Summer makes it so much easier and explains things so well! (why we do the things we do!)
Great intro to body image work. Challenges the reader to see the flaws in their thought processing, and how focusing on body size protects you from showing up, dealing with feelings, and ultimately being successful and living a fulfilled life. The author references some great resources, including Linda Bacon's "Health at Every Size" and "When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies", as well as contemporary social media influencers such as Virgie Tovar and Sarah Vance. I love that Summer wrote in her own, unapologetic voice, complete with references to 90210 and mall fashion shows.
If you want practical, no nonsense guidance to building a better relationship with yourself and your body, Summer nails it. An easy read, Body Image Remix is a great addition to your library of books that will help you get there. Her podcast, Eat The Rules, has the same sassy style and makes you laugh even when the going gets rough. I’m flipping back to page one to read it again, you should too!
This book encouraged me in so many ways! I felt like I could relate to her struggle with body image. She's encouraging and gives steps toward body acceptance. This was a message I needed to hear at this point in my journey and it's a message every woman needs to hear.
Love this book, Summer knows what’s she’s talking about because she has been on this journey and the journey never stops. Reading this book and listening to Summers podcasts are so helpful and are supporting my self love body positive path. Buy this book you won’t regret it
The information is good, but it’s repetitive to her podcast. I was looking for something deeper than what I got. It’s still really important information, but I wish I had read it at the start of recovery as opposed to now.
I loved all the journaling questions and the real ness that summer adds to her work! It was a great start to my journey and i suggest It as a good read to start yours!
This was a wonderful book. I loved that it was a quick read and not too repetitive which i find with a lot of self-help/love books. It was very enjoyable and a nice way to start off the new year with a positive attitude. Thank you Summer Innanen!
A must read, relatable And funny! I can’t say enough good things, it helped me clarify what my body image problems really are and why I want to keep moving for a diet. Actionable steps toward positive body image:)
Sick of dieting? Tired of seeing the same ultra-thin (or overly muscular) types represented in the media? Ready to redefine beauty? This is the book for you.
If you are trying to accept your body and embrace your "badass self"—rather than trying to morph it into something else—this is the book for you. Be forewarned that there are no dieting strategies or tricks to help you fit into those skinny jeans. This book is all about bucking the cultural norms of accepted beauty and size, while challenging the reader to embrace her FBS (future badass self) no matter what size or shape she is.
It's an entertaining read, loaded with humor and sarcasm, which will get you smiling and ignite your confidence. Looking forward to more from Summer Innanen!
Overall, I though this short book was an excellent intro to the idea of body image recovery. It goes over a lot of good points to consider, prompts to journal about, and some actionable steps. It was a little cheesy for my taste (for example, every other sentence includes an 80's references) as well as repetitive and artificially lengthened (not every single sentence needs a cute metaphor to be understood). An excellent first book from the author.
Best things in life are free, and highest truths are usually quite simple. Simplicity is precisely what I really liked about Body Image Remix. If you're tired of dieting, and unhappy with your physique, do yourself a favor and read this book, now. It offers ways for you to stop obsessing over what's actually not so important, so that you have more mental space and time to enjoy life - now, instead of postponing that for "when you'll have lost those 10 pounds". Why wait?
Right before reading this book I attempted to read another health book that lived and died on the alter of BMI. It made me feel awful. Thankfully this book appeared in suggested books on my Kindle. It he spoke to me. A short easy uplifting witty red that gives you simple exercise to body love and positivity. The author also quotes books that have helped her along the way and provides the reader with some amazing body positive women to follow on social media. She admits it is a constant journey. This is the first self help style body positive book I have read. The author has set me on a path that I desperately want to follow. She gave me resources and exercises journaling to stay on that path. I am grateful I found this book. A must read for any woman who feels inadequate and would rather gouge her eyes out then start one more diet.
