LEARNING THE HARD is a quick read centered around a woman recovering from a relationship based on deceit and a man who is ready to start a new phase to his life. It is especially nice that Troy is in his forties and not a young man struggling to find himself, but a mature and confident man seeking to expand his future. An accident of circumstances brings Ava and Troy together in two very different situations and in both, their immediate attraction is hard to ignore. Ava is struggling to relinquish control, but if she is willing to try Troy is willing to give her what she is hesitant to reach for. Being able to let go will get her more than she had imagined was possible for her.

Things move quickly between Ava and Troy. The obstacle in their way is overcome pretty quickly since this is a short read. There is good chemistry and sexy scenes that are enjoyable to read in LEARNING THE HARD WAY. There's a glimpse into Troy's dominance that I would have enjoyed being explored further, however what Midway gives within the confines of this short story fit well. If you are looking for a quick fix read that still feels like a complete story LEARNING THE HARD WAY is a good one to pick up.

Learning the Hard Way is the latest tale of trust and love by Bridget Midway. Ava Kushnell, college professor, Troy Whitten, owner of a contracting company, had a lot in common. Both are successful, hardworking and dedicated to their careers. They also were very unsuccessful in love. Ava had just received news that she was being considered for the position of chair in her department. A position that she dreamed of having but she needed a date for the faculty dinner. Against his better judgement, Troy agreed to fill in as an escort for his friend. Seeing Troy, first as a student in her class and then as her escort made Ava’s head spin. Troy saw a very sexy woman who needed to be taught a lesson.

Even though the story is short, Midway packs a lot in this story. Ava and Troy had to learn to let go of old pain in order to accept each other. In the midst of it all, Troy used a trick or two to get her to open up and experience something new and exciting. As always reading a book by Bridget Midway will have you on the edge of your seat until the end. If you are lucky, you learn a thing or two in between that pages. Great job Bridget.

I gave this book 4 fangs. I thought it was a well written short about a professor who after getting out of a really unhealthy, bad relationship, meets a student and balks at the idea of dating him. He is helping out a friend by covering for him at his escort job. Her friends set her up with an escort for a work function and sparks fly. It was pretty fast paced but a little too much so. I thought he kind of rushed her into his bdsm lifestyle and while she responded well and enjoyed it, it seemed a little too easy. It was a good story though and I would definitely recommend it.
