Field Guide to the Irish Music Session is a light-hearted and informal look at what happens when Irish musicians get together and play. What are the preferred instruments? Is an Irish music session the same as a jam session? What is proper session etiquette? And why are recordings of Irish music often no substitute for the real thing? Barry Foy answers these questions with humor and in the spirit of playing Irish music.
This book is very entertaining and informative. There’s lots of laugh out loud moments. As a newbie to the Irish trad session culture, this explained so many things that I’ve had to learn the embarrassing way. It can be very frustrating to enter this culture of unspoken rules and this book describes it perfectly.
