Trinket Banks is enjoying her first Christmas in Jagged Grove, even with her reluctant husband Angelo along for the ride. They’re still married, thanks to an evil warlock and a binding spell, and Angelo has promised to make it snow in Jagged Grove, just for her.
Trinket can’t wait.
But thoughts of snow and shopping fall by the wayside when Bilda and Rain start handing out enchanted Christmas cookies. The cookies are supposed to bring luck for the coming New Year, but this batch turns everyone in Jagged Grove into a scrooge.
Now Trinket and Angelo have to figure out what happened and fix the goof before Christmas is ruined forever.
Christmas Witch by Willow Monroe is billed as a paranormal cozy mystery short story in the Jagged Grove series. Trinket Banks and Angelo are married due to a binding spell by an evil warlock. This is Trinket’s first Christmas in Jagged Grove, a place where supernaturals don’t have to hide their abilities from humans. With thoughts of snow, holiday shopping ,and handing out Christmas cookies, what could possibly go wrong?
The friendly and inviting writing style pulls readers into the story. However, the names seem contrived and the mystery wasn’t much of a mystery. I enjoyed the tale, but that was it. It’s too short to get the needed character development so reading the previous books in the series would likely be best.
Overall, this was an interesting story line, but I found it lacking in depth and mystery.
Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
I loved the "extra" for this series. It added a like more normal to the characters and what Christmas may be like for them. I could see more of these with these characters. Hint hint
This was a pretty cute little novella from the Jagged Grove series. A batch of cookies for the entire town goes horribly wrong, so what else is there to fix it but another batch of cookies! This novella is so short that we don't learn much about any of the characters (side of mail), but we do see Angelo and Trinket trying to sort through their feelings and situation.
I do recommend reading at least the first and/or second books in the series before cracking this novella open. Yes, I'm sure you could get by without it, but it means a lot more when you know the characters and where they are coming from.
Witchy Christmas sweetness, but not really thought through
This is a short book (around 13000 words) set in the paranormal world of Jagged Cove, and was offered for free when I got it. It has no number on the cover, but it is not the first book in the series. Apparently it fits in between books 3 and 4 of the Jagged Grove series. This confused me at first, as there is a lot which has already happened which you have to work out as you go along if you haven’t read the previous books.
The story is fairly straight-forward. It’s Christmas time in Jagged Grove and (despite the presence of witches, warlocks, vampires and actual magic) it’s the same overly-cheerful small-town American Christmas as every other holiday feel-good book. In an excess of excitement, one of the characters puts the wrong magical herb into the cookies which they give out to everyone in town. The next day, rather than yet more festive syrup, the whole town has turned into grumpy scrooges. It’s up to heroine Trinket and her brooding vampire husband to “save Christmas”
For me, the story was both too sickly-sweet and too implausible. The solution relies on every single one of the newly-humbugged townsfolk turning up to a pancake breakfast. I find this highly unlikely, given that everyone Trinket has spoken to has either ignored her or slammed a door in her face. Why on earth would they all turn up to an early morning social event?
Despite all that, it was a quick, easy, and relatively fun read. If you are in the mood for some witchy Christmas sweetness and don’t think too hard about it, you’ll probably enjoy it. I think it would make more sense if you read some of the others in the series first, though.
This story would have been a lot cuter if I knew it was part of a series, and so knew what they were talking about! That's my fault, tho, for randomly picking up a free short story.
'twas an ok xmas story. Very American xmas. I liked the witchy element, and if it wasn't clear romance was a big plot-point, I might have considered reading the rest of the series
Cute story about an enchanted (of sorts) town that’s full of magical beings. Things get “crushed”…maybe a couple, maybe cookies and Christmas is almost ruined. This book makes me want to read about the characters’ backstory and future endeavors. Great Segway between Halloween and Christmas.
A fun short story of a town full of Witches and other magical beings. A happy place until something goes wrong. How can they make everything right again before Christmas for the town?
Christmas Witch is a cute, short Christmas story. It is set in a magical place with different magical people. It is a fun little story to read at Christmas time.
A sweet treat with the same wanderfull caracters and the mischief keeps rolling , this time a well meaning treat crumbles and Christmas happiness is in jeopardy of becoming Christmas grumble . Pick up a copy and start enjoying "Christmas Witch " 🙄 Kat
What a close call! Christmas is a time of the year when EVERYONE wants to be happy. I'll not tell you how it works out, but I will tell about their having snow fall just in tome for the holiday. Thanks for a fun read.
I found myself wanting to learn more on the characters and their backgrounds and more about their friends and town. Cute story , but I would have liked a little more.
I know you out did yourself on this issue. The storyline was great it got me hooked from the beginning. Thanks for the beginning and end,I really want more.
Who would think there's so much trouble in a spice cabinet ? Or that it would be so hard to give away cookies ? But, somehow, Christmas must be saved !!
Cute. Short and holiday inspired. I'm intrigued about the world. Found out after getting this for free through Nook app that it's part of a series. I would read more from it.
