Two strangers… One shared wish… Will Christmas magic make it come true?...
Melody is a Christmas Grinch. Still reeling from a childhood tragedy that struck on Christmas Eve, the last thing she wants to do is celebrate. Her holiday spirit is further diminished when she discovers her girlfriend cheating on her. She’d rather deck her than deck the halls.
In the hope of cheering her up, Melody’s best friend persuades her to drop a wish in Santa’s post box. Though Melody’s reluctant to trust in love again or believe in Santa, she asks him for the gift of true love.
Holly is a cynical singleton. Having no special someone to spend Christmas with makes it even worse for her. On Christmas Eve, things take an unexpected turn when her father makes a request: he wants Holly to deliver a gift to a woman whose identity remains a mystery.
Could this be the year that Melody and Holly get all they want for Christmas?
While Jade Winters has been putting words together since she was a child, it wasn’t until 2010 that she became a serious writer. Today, as a full-time author, she has published four novels in the lesbian fiction genre as well as several short stories. Jade was born and educated in London where she studied journalism for three years at a London University. She is the youngest of 6 children born to a Nigerian father and English mother and blames her love of spicy food on her African heritage. Jade now makes her home in Dorset in the South of England with her partner and furry companions Zorro, Buttons and Zeus.
She was glad that she took after her mother in looks and size, because she had no desire to be overweight and constantly jolly. It was one thing for a man to have permanently rosy cheeks and a rotund body, but it would look rather silly on a woman.
This story was so sweet and I absolutely adored it. It was predictable in exactly the way a Christmas story should be. My only complaint is the ending. Don’t get me wrong, it was a happy ending, which I am all about. But it ended so suddenly. I would have liked to see more of both Holly and Melody’s story. Maybe a little sequel at some point? ;)
Holly is the daughter of Santa and Eve Claus and lives at the North Pole. Just one problem, she hates it. Melody hates Christmas and comes back to her apartment on Christmas Eve to her cheating girlfriend and a redhead in her bed. Merry F-ing Christmas.
I decided to do a twofer of Jade Winter's holiday reads. Both were short and easy reads.
Jade Winters is one of my favorite British lesbian writers. Her stories appeal to me on a very deep level. I have read most of her eBooks. She has a thoughtful way of presenting her story, and the ones I have read have always led to a HEA.
However, the first one, The Perfect Present, was not very satisfying, and didn't quite live up to her other works. Even though there are ten chapters, the story itself was a quick read. The story started off on a great step. Being plopped down in the story, it took me a moment to connect the dots, and when I did, it brought a smile to my face. This wasn't going to be a typical story. Oh no, it wasn't! It was enjoyable until the very end. The unfortunate part was that just when things were getting good, it was over with. It's like the author set the whole plot up and then just stopped story. I really liked it up to then. There was development and nice character builds. I wanted to know more about these characters. There was no sexy bits in this story. None. So, really, any YA lesbian, or any lesbian, of any age, who is just looking for a semi-sweet Holiday story would enjoy this one, even though it ended prematurely.
I still like the overall development of the story. Just very disappointed in the ending.
Cute short story that might get you into the xmas-spirit – whether you are up for it or not. The two protagonists aren’t in the mood for xmas, either, but look what happens! And of course it happens, this is a Winters.
„The Perfect Present“ is a quick read, short and sweet. Perfect for cold winter days or warmer ones; perfect if you need and have time for a feel-good-hour. It’s a perfect present for yourself.
What an adorable Christmas story! You could really see as the characters developed how their feelings shone through and the message of the season came true! Thanks!
