Marnie Baranuik has barely had time to enjoy her break from the FBI’s Preternatural Crimes Unit when her favorite hunky vampire hunter comes calling. If Kill-Notch Batten can’t oust an unruly garden invader, maybe Marnie can, but when a wayward woodland sprite takes her for a joyride, it’s more than either of them can handle. Relying on her two favorite dead guys to read her mind and do her kitchen witching instead of having her for a late-night snack, it’s time for Marnie to add a green thumb to her magical bag of tricks before her unwanted guest takes root permanently.
... Oh, get your mind out of the gutter! Seriously. *headshake* ;-P
"Mostly, I ruminated on how much I respected this ballsy plant. It had set down roots and wasn't going nowhere..."
Well, until Marnie comes along: Leave it to Marnie to take it upon herself to educate a willful bush dwelling sprite on the joys of pollinating-but-not-for-realsies, pollinating-for-practice, pollinating-for-spanks-and-giggles, pollinating-for-funsies and freedom flights on the back of a vampire bat.
It takes a special kind of talent to write an awesome (not to mention hilarious) story about a ballsy Honeysuckle bush in need of pollination. AJ is one of the few people who's up for the task. You will laugh, you will giggle, and when you're done, you might even head out into your garden to show your plants some much deserved love.
Happy reading. And (in honor of Marnie) happy "pollinating". *wink, wink*
This series must be read in order. The first book is Touched. The second book is Death Rejoices. The third book is Cold Company. The fourth book is Dirt Nap. The fifth book is Last Impressions. This is the sixth book. I can't wait to read the seventh book Wrath And Bones to find out what disaster Marnie gets herself into next!
Batten bought a house... Where Marnie told him to. If that isn't odd enough, now he is trying his hand at gardening. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently everything! When he calls Marnie for help you'd think she'd know better! Is his land cursed? Did he buy a mutant plant? Is this a science experiment gone wrong? Is his honeysuckle from The Little Shop Of Horrors?!
***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy snark and mayhem in their paranormal mystery action adventures with a dash of unconventional romance and twisted family dynamics peppered with a unique macabre humor that never disappoints :)
Fun and interesting addition to the series, but I found it a little freaky! Something invading the brain? No thanks! But entertaining read nonetheless.
I definitely recommend this book. Try "Touched " the first in the series. You won't regret it.
This is charming little story and as usual Marnie's in trouble, Battens' jaw is clenching , Wez is a taxi and Harry's',well Harry. I wouldn't mind this little visitor though .
Now that Marnie has quit the FBI and started her own paranormal investigation firm, who should her first client be but Mark Batten? I don't want to give anything away by saying too much, so I will say that Marnie is challenged in a very close and very personal way to come out the victor in this encounter. Deadhead takes place after Last Impressions and before Wrath and Bones.
Fabulously funny and cute short story featuring Marnie, Batten, Golden, Harry and Wes. Seriously I am loving Wes, he is coming along and maturing so nicely, really look forward to seeing how his future pans out.
That gets your attention from the start. Magic, supernatural beings, humans, fae creatures... My curiosity for the writer and more in this series will have me getting more novels. Well written and extremely entertaining.
Not one of my favorites. In this short story, Marnie finds herself incapacitated. This does allow us to see Wesley step in and play a bigger role. I think that twist was the best part of the story.
After perusing the reviews, I'm confused as to how one would read this story without reading the previous ones in the series. SERIOUSLY??? Anyway, a cute, quick, Marnie read. LOVE MARNIE!!! Always love reading little escapades of her and her motley crew of misfits.
Lovers of this series will not be disappointed. Lots of humour packed in, with the usual smattering of flamboyant language. Reading this was definitely time well spent.
Loved this little sprite of a book. It was light entertainment at first glance. But it also lets us see Marnie’s deep connection with one more vulnerable. Ive read all the Marnie books and now return to the in between.
Disclaimer: I won this novella in a contest. But if I didn't get it for free, I totally would have bought it because I love this author.
My chief complaint about this is that it wasn't longer! Deadhead is the exact sort of wacky plotline I've come to know and love with Marnie.
Apparently, since the events in Last Impressions Marnie and Batten have decided to set up shop in an office together, where Batten advertises his monster hunting skills and Marnie is a psychic-for-hire. Also mentioned in about the first page of the story is an allusion to Marnie and Batten's relationship- it would appear that they're working on a romance, or at the very least are sleeping together again. What I find to be extremely upsetting is that there was another Marnie/Batten sex scene and we missed it! I'm hoping this is an oversight Aalto will correct in the next book, because I feel a little cheated right now.
ANYWAY....
The basic groundwork is this: Batten hires Marnie to figure out why a giant honeysuckle plant has taken over his backyard. Because this is a Marnie story, it's obviously not just an out-of-control shrub. While trying to figure out what's inhabiting the plant, there is an...incident. Marnie ends up needing Wesley, Harry, and Batten to work together to save her.
I liked that Wesley played an important part in helping Marnie, because we got to see memories from his childhood and learn more about him. Wesley seems to be growing up, and I'm finding him more likeable.
I can't give any more detail without ruining the plot, since this is a short novella. But I will say that this story had me laughing out loud in an airport terminal and I'd highly recommend it as a fun interlude in the series.
Deadhead joins Dirt Nap as a Marnie story without a body count. No humans, monsters, dogs, or kittens were harmed in the writing of this story, which sparkles with Marnie's foul mouth. As she deals with her very first case as an investigator, a possibly possessed honeysuckle bush, she must use the abilities no one believes she has to save more than her own life.
Short little read about a spriggan who takes a joyride in Marnie's body. With the help of her brother and friend harry both vampires, they work to remove the pest. I loved this quirky, short story. Its a fast read, cute and doesn't stray. I'll be reading more of these books.
This book was a little hard to read at times because of the language. At times it circled around and was confusing. I did however love the plot and was immediately interested and wanting more stories with these characters. I do wish I had read some stories in the beginning of the series, but enough information was explained that I didn't feel completely lost.
I absolutely loved this book. I laugh out loud with every Marnie story, but this one took the cake. It was interesting, fast paced, and funny as hell. Loved it!
As always it was fun. Marnie and the gang are witty, entertaining, and a total hoot. I would recommend this series and most especially this installment.
This is the first I've read but she had me at herring. seriously. I need to go and read them in order. like now. Def going to be a new favorite series.
