Elegant sailing boats, expansive marine landscapes, architectural landscapes that unfold before the viewer – with his unique pictorial language and repertoire of subjects Lyonel Feininger became one of the most important artists of classic Modernism and remains very popular to this day.
I saw prints of Feininger's work in a larger volume and knew I wanted to learn more about this modernist painter.
This book is not large, about four by eight inches, but the quality is very good and the prints are all in color.
Included is an essay by Ulrich Luckhardt, followed by the artist's biography, which is followed by a timeline of Feininger's life.
I personally love the color combinations and forms of his work, although originally he was a caricaturist who made cartoons for magazines, something he hated.
