Even the tiniest white lie had the power to corrode- to shatter and dismantle everything you loved.

After thoroughly enjoying Forgetting August and getting hit with the mother of all cliffys at the end, suffice it to say I was eagerly anticipating the release of this book. I had so many unanswered questions. Forgetting August wasn't the typical romance you'd read, and I appreciated it. Sometimes something different is just what you need.

Unfortunately, Remembering Everly was a bit like watching paint dry; boring, tedious, and you already know what the end result would be.

This was an exercise in frustration because I had such high hopes for this book that never went anywhere. Everly and August spend over half the book apart, as in the previous book. While I appreciated that this needed to happen, especially for Everly and her growth as a character, that doesn't mean I wanted to keep reading about it, and reading about it, and reading about it some more. A lot of it was mundane every day sort of detail that added nothing to the overall story. I also hated the direction that August took in the book.

My main issue came down to what I thought was a whole lot of filler. The story dragged and I found my interest quickly waning. After finishing this book, I can't help but feel it would have been more effective as a longer standalone. In the grand scheme of things aside from August getting his memory back and dealing with the issue of Trent, nothing more happened. Yes, him and Everly deal with their relationship, but that was mostly lackluster to me. With the amount of filler and mundane detail this book had, I lost my connection to the characters and the story that I first got in book 1. I'm sad to say that while it started out strong with Forgetting August, it really fell flat for me with Remembering Everly.

I'd gladly read more books by this author because she's clearly talented. But sadly you can't love them all and I just didn't love this one.

Remembering Everly starts where August and Everly's story left off at the end of the first book. When I saw that this book was available for an ARC I jumped at the chance because I desperately needed to know what would happen with this couple. There was stills so much mystery surrounding them, and I needed to figure out what was buried in August's old memories.

After reading Forgetting August I had big expectations for this book, and well I think I got myself too hyped up for it. I was left a little disappointed from the lack of suspense. There were still many unanswered questions floating around, but it didn't seem like the past was as big of an importance as it was in the first part. I think I just wanted to see more of August and Everly together and leave all that other bullshit somewhere else so I could get to know more about them as a couple.

With all of that being said, it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy this book, because I really did. The mysteries still had me enthralled with the story and made it so I couldn't put my Kindle down once I started. I loved how we were kept in suspense with more and more hints coming up for us to try and figure out what had happened. The whole thing was full of twists I never saw coming and honestly I didn't think reading this would be as shocking as it was. But I'm really happy that it turned out that way.

Bottom line, this is a must read for anyone that likes a suspenseful story about a couple destined to be together. The conclusion to the August and Everly focused a lot more of August, which I really appreciated and it's what made me like this book as much as I did. It was also less intense than the previous book, but I liked that it was different and it was an interesting change.

::: FULL "DOUBLE" REVIEW NOW POSTED ::::

"Do you think it’s possible to be in love with a woman you don’t remember?"

NOTE: this review covers both books in this duet. — Wow! I just finished a mini reading marathon where I read both books in the “Lost & Found” duet back-to-back!!! It was so ADDICTIVE!! I couldn't put it down! If you read the blurb, you’ll notice that it’s quite a unique story — the hero wakes up from a coma with amnesia and doesn’t remember the heroine! But when he starts piecing his past together, he realizes that it’s so much uglier than he ever expected and he has to fight like hell to fix it and win back the love of this one girl who he can’t stop thinking about!!!

This was one of those stories that I just flew through without breaks! The more I read, the more questions I had!! And I couldn’t stop until I got to the very end!! It’s a romance duet (meaning a 2-book series) and the first book “Forgetting August” is already available, and the second book “Remembering Everly” will be out in March (I read an early copy).

First, I'll share the blurb from the first book because it was what made me want to read it:

She can forgive, but can she forget?

Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn't matter that she's moved on, that she's about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can't hurt her-because he's in a coma. Except that he's not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she's the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that thisAugust is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever...

Pretty intriguing, huh?

I was hooked from the first page of the Forgetting August. As you read, the story goes back and forth between August and Everly's hugely different perspectives as he awakens to a life he has absolutely no memories of and as she desperately tried to heal from the emotional ruin he'd left her in.

So many questions were running through my mind...
-- what put him in the coma in the first place?
-- what kind of man was he now?
-- would they get back together? should they even?
-- was it fair to Ryan that she consider going back to August?
-- would she be foolish to ever consider returning to a man who'd once put her through hell? or was there a chance he'd genuinely changed for the better?
-- was there more we didn't know about why he used to be the way he was?
-- was there even right or wrong answers? or were there just choices and consequences?

These types of questions were what kept me flying through the pages of these books. I really liked that even though Everly had clearly been through a lot, she was trying to be strong while still recognizing that she needed help and was regularly going to therapy. One way or the other, she was determined to never again allow herself to be claimed by any man. She belonged to no one other than herself.

No matter how much he loved me.
No matter how much I loved him in return.
I would never, ever belong to another man.
For as long as I lived.

I feel I should say that August never physically abused her in their past. It's not an excuse and things definitely got ugly, but you do get an explanation for how things deteriorated to that state. I'm only saying this because I know it can be a trigger for some readers so I wanted to put out that reassurance.

I have to say that I couldn't help but root for her and August to get back together. I think there are some people in life that you just have a connection to -- a connection so deep that nothing can erase it no matter what happens. In his purest form, without the influences that had changed him in his past life, August was actually a really wonderful guy.

That was what scared me most of all. That after everything, there was still a fraction of me somewhere deep down that missed him as much as the rest of me hated him.

A few of you are bound to be wondering about the love triangle aspect so I just wanted to say this without giving any spoilers -- as a reader, I'm not a fan of love triangles at all, but I was totally okay with both the situation in this book and the manner in which it was resolved. I don't want to say more because a huge part of the thrill is figuring things about along the way, but the titles of the books alone are big hints and you should just know that I was totally fine with everything given the specifics of this situation.

As you get closer to the end of the first book, the intensity builds and yes, you're left on a huuuuuuuge cliffhanger. Luckily, the next book does pick up right where the first one left off though. Thankfully, I had both books available to me at once because I deeeeeesperately needed to know what happened next.

At this point, beginning the second book, I'd began putting two and two together -- clearly things were not as they seemed and there was definitely a story behind the story so to speak... And in this book, the stakes were raised as the dangers of August's past collided with the present forcing him to make some heart-breaking decisions.

I think it's a sign of really good writing when you literally don't want to put the book down, and I read both of these books back-to-back in one fell swoop with barely time to breathe or blink.

“Do you every think of me — when I’m not around?” she asked softly…

Stepping in closer, so she could feel the breath of my words as they fell from my mouth, I whispered, “Every second, Everly. Every damn second.”

Overall, this was an addictive series that I really enjoyed! August and Everly's story had me madly turning pages as I desperately tried to find out how they'd ever be able to find their way back together.

In the interest of full honesty, I'm going to admit that the only reason I read these books right now was that I was in a unique position to have had both books available to me immediately. I had an early copy of the second book (it's currently available for pre-order, but not released) and the cliffhanger at the end of the first book is really huge. In reality, these two books are like two halves of the same story -- they complete each other. If you're a reader who doesn't like cliffhangers, my advice is to grab the first book but hang on to it until the second book goes live so that you can read them both together. Alternatively, if you're a reader who doesn't mind the thrilling suspense of a cliffhanger, then dive right in!

I loved how different this story was. I knew from the first time I read the blurb that this would be a series I'd want to read and now that I've finished it, I can say that I'm so glad I did!

“I don’t know how or why, but it’s only ever been you since the moment I woke up.”

Remembering Everly is the second installment in the Lost and Found series. After the dramatic revelation/conclusion to Forgetting August, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. Could August forgive Everly? Could he remember all there was to their love story both good and bad? And could he sever the unethical and ruthless bond that Trent has over him?

My interest in this book vacillated quite a bit. In the beginning I found myself ready to throttle August in all of his overprotective ways. It's obvious both he and Everly were meant to be with each other yet both were so ignorant when it came to putting their love first- for whatever reasons they had. On one hand I was pleased to see the anti-hero nature of pre-accident August turning a new leaf to that of protector of his Everly even if it meant his losing her yet I wanted to shake the idiocy out of him at the same time. They were meant to be together darn it!

 photo 15A4F329-2D3F-420F-A41A-1352CC5B8D32_zpsedj0oop1.jpg

Second, I think this book could've been more tug of war angsty and unfortunately the second half I found myself daydreaming more than fully attending to the book. I was much more invested in the first installment and in a lot of ways, I felt like this story could've been wrapped up in one book instead of a duet. There appeared to be a lot of filler stuff and a lot of it was just lost on me.

Anywho, I still enjoyed this rather unconventional love story and I won't hesitate to pick up another book by JL Berg in the future.

It's the finish I'd been waiting for, the slow anguish filled road towards an ending where love triumphs and "lots and lots of coffee" is included.

When we left August and Everly at the end of Forgetting August, they had heartbreakingly taken different paths in life. Even after all the bumps their relationship had endured due to lies and secrets, including but not limiting to the fact that August had been in a comma for two years and lost all his memories prior to waking up, they had fought for their love and seemed to be on the road to happy ever after land. But even though he couldn’t remember his past, it still came barreling into his present and ruining his chances at a happy future.
“I need you, Everly. I need you now, and forever. I’ll always want to protect you, but life – whethere it’s this one or another – it’s not worth living without you.”

Once August’s mad, sociopathic, power hungry business partner came into the picture again, Everly immediately left thinking August would revert back to his old paranoid self. She ran right back into the arms of her ex-fianceé and decided to erase August from her life for good. Once his memories start to trickle back in, August not only lets her, he pushes her away because he thought he was protecting her.
“Someday you’ll understand what you’ve given up. Someday, you’ll realize that love like that only comes around once in a lifetime, and rather than fighting for it, you let it slip away.”

Running from problems is never the solution though. Especially not when the heart, mind and soul long to be with their mate. Can August regain enough memories to help him slay his past? Can August and Everly find their way through so much drama and trust in each other once again?
“There have been so many times we’ve failed at this, August. I can’t bear to go through another round of up and down with you.”

I loved, Loved, LOVED Forgetting August and naturally I couldn’t wait to read its conclusion. Their story was so heart wrenchingly sad and still filled with love that it was impossible for me to phantom any other outcome but a happy ending for them. So I patiently awaited this book and truly got what I wanted and yet I’m having a bit of trouble rating this book.

J.L. Berg’s writing is fabulous, I’ve read several of her stories and love them because she’s brings out all the feels and I never hesitate to pick up a book from her. This story is no different, the characters are complex and well developed, the plot had me hooked, but this had all been established in the first book.

This second part mostly revolved around them struggling with the path they’d chosen in a seemingly hopeless and infinite loop of miscommunication all in the name of love. Though I enjoyed August’s memories coming back to him, and that he was determined to protect Everly even at the cost of losing her again and that Everly was resolute in finding herself, they were agonizingly slow in getting it together. Once they do though, I had to brace for the fast pace with which the plot moved from then on forward. All loose ends were tied in a very neat package that gave the story an even happier ending than I would have expected
“Loving him had always been as easy as breathing… I would love him for everything he was, everything he wasn’t, and evething we could be together.

What I’m trying to convey is that overall this is a wonderful story that brought many emotions to the surface, from incredibly swoon worthy moments from the gorgeous romance, to sweet smile inducing ones from the great banter between all the characters, to tear inducing ones from the sad heartbreaks this couple went through. But I also feel the story could have been told in a single book or a book and a novella.

Remembering Everly is book #2 in the Lost and Found duet by J.L. Berg. It is told from both points of view and ends with a happy ending. This is not a standalone book, it is strongly suggested that this book not be read as such and rather in order.

Overall rating for full story 4 stars

My Review

“Guilt, regret, dread. Three simple words that had the power to strip a man bare.”

“Secrets they had the ability to destroy lives, obliterate relationships and sabotage even the strongest partnerships. Big or small…it didn’t matter. Even the tiniest white lie had the power to corrode–to shatter and dismantle everything you loved.”

“Time froze. The world melted away and there was only him, me, and the swirling sea of emotions swimming between us.”

Oh, how I have been waiting for this book!!! Ever since I finished Forgetting August, I have been dying, dying to see how things would play out. I could not wait to get my hands on this book!!

Remembering Everly picks up right where Forgetting August left off. August is finally getting his memories back. But, with each new memory, it’s even more clear to him that he must push Everly away to keep her safe. It’s killing him to be away from her, but he doesn’t see any other way….Everly’s heart is broken. She is trying to move on with her life and do what is expected of her, but no matter how much she tries, she just can’t. Her heart belongs to August and it just kills her to think that he doesn’t feel the same way. Will these two be able to move past all the secrets and lies? Will August and Everly find their happily ever after?

Remembering Everly gives us all the answers we have been wanting. We finally understand what and why of things. The secrets of the past have all come out and now August and Everly must deal with the fall out. The road to HEA for these two was not an easy one. But, as the saying goes, anything worth having is worth fighting for. I loved watching these two navigate their way through everything and fight for their HEA.

Remembering Everly was a quick and easy read for me. I thought this story was captivating and entertaining. It was filled with lots of heartache, angst, frustrating moments and sweet romance. I loved all the secrets and the twists and turns. And most of all, I loved seeing how everything came together in the end.

This was the first series that I’ve read from this author and I’m really excited to read more from her in the future.

I was so excited to read the conclusion of August and Everly's story and get some answers after the cliffhanger ending in Forgetting August.

In Remembering Everly we get more insight into August and the kind of man he was before the incident that stole his memories and put him in a coma. The pressure he was under was intense and many of his actions, the ones that left Everly feeling like a prisoner, made sense when told from his point of view. As his past begins to collide with his present, August is walking a fine line trying to find a way to move forward and live the life he wants.

Everly is once again planning her wedding to another man, but her feelings for August are far from resolved. Guilt-ridden by the secret she kept from August, and still missing the relationship they had, she's left feeling unsure of what direction to take.

I loved the connection between August and Everly in this one. As the story progressed and more truths came to light, it became apparent that, regardless of the past, they were so much better together than apart. They were both struggling with the aftermath of decisions August had made in the first book and neither of them were dealing with the fallout well. August worked to right past wrongs and Everly made decisions about who and what she really wanted and I was cheering for them all the way.

This was a completely satisfying ending to the Lost & Found duology and I'll definitely be reading more from Berg.

This was the conclusion to August and Everly's story, and J.L. Berg has done it once again—knocking it out of the book world. I wasn't sure how this was going to play out, though I was really hoping they would finally get their HEA.

Gah!!! This story just gutted me because I could see the love these two had for each other, yet because of the obstacles in their lives, they weren't able to be together. Despite it all, August knew what he had to do if he ever wanted an opportunity with Everly again, and nothing and no-one would stop him.

To me the love they had was an unbelievably true one, and beautifully written. Their battle was so realistic, because nothing ever comes easily, especially when you find that one who’s captured your heart and refuses to let it go.

The closer I got to the end, the more I started worrying and chanting, “Please, oh please, don't let that happen… Come on now, J.L. Berg, give me that HEA!”

The conclusion of Remembering Everly was just breathtakingly beautiful!! I am sad it’s over, but will patiently await what J.L. Berg will share with us next! ~ Kara, 5 Beautiful stars

Wow, just wow… Remembering Everly picks up right where Forgetting August ended… with August remembering exactly how he ended up in a coma that lasted two years. He also remembers all the heartache he caused Everly, and the lies he told her in a misguided attempt to keep her safe. As August attempts to rebuild his life, he is doing it without Everly by his side.

But August’s heart isn’t quite on board with this separation. He’d do anything for a second chance to have Everly in his life, in his bed again for good. But first August needs to face the darkest demons of his past and exorcise them out of his life in order to really move on once and for all.

Whoa. Man, my heart just broke for both Everly and August. Neither one able to move on without the other—but neither one willing to let down their walls and allow the truth to seep inside their hearts. August was willing to let Everly go as long as she was safe from his mistakes, but honestly, his biggest mistake was letting Everly go in the first place. Remembering Everly keep me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to see exactly how their story would end. And it was an ending that was nearly perfect… ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

WOW!! I hadn't read the first book in this series so was wary when I realised this was the second in the series but I needn't have been - it was still a fantastic read and I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster ride it took me on. With two years in a coma, August Kinkaid is starting to get his memories back and he doesn't particularly like the man he had become. He still loves Everly but wants to protect her and keep her safe from the traumatic life he unwittingly created for himself. He still has secrets to uncover and wrongs to right but with a manipulative sociopath endangering him and everyone he loves no decisions are going to be easy.

Everly is planning to marry Ryan. She's had to put her past with August behind her and move forward with her life but things aren't always so straightforward and as the wedding date approaches there are still decisions for her to make, too! Can she really forget August and move on to a life without him? Does she really love Ryan - or is she seeking a family with him? Perhaps most challenging of all is coping with her future mother-in-law!!

As more memories are revealed August will have many choices ahead. Does he really want to return to living his life as it was before his coma, being the kind of man he now really despises? How can he move away from his business partnership and win back Everly without putting her in danger? Should he even try to do so?

Whilst the road to their HEA is not smooth, learning to fight for it together make it all the more worth achieving and both characters are seen to 'grow and mature' as the story progresses. This is a well crafted novel, with many intriguing aspects to keep the reader enthralled. It includes business bad practices, money mismanagement, greed, threats and danger together with romantic choices to be made in this riveting story giving life and love a second chance.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for gifting me an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

By the way, you may want to read the first book before reading this review of the second one. They do need to be read in order for you to really grasp what is happening between the two characters. Their story is concluded in this second book, but I have to say that it didn't hold my attention as well as the first one did.

Remembering Everly is the companion book to Forgetting August, which I really enjoyed. The first book ended on a cliffhanger that I had actually thought about but didn't put much stock into until it came in to play.

I was so excited to get into this story. I just couldn't wait to find out how August and Everly were going to work this out because in my opinion there was just no way that they weren't going to be together. The first part of the book was kind of boring. August was doing his thing, Everly was doing hers, and I'm just waiting around for that moment when they realize their lives mean nothing without each other.

Read the complete review on That Bookshelf Bitch!

I received a digital Advance Reading Copy (ARC) of the book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I found the sequel significantly underwhelming compared to its predecessor. Typing that sentence alone makes me feel really, really sad. On that note, I’d like to keep this review concise and straight to the point as the thought of giving one of Berg’s works a less than exemplary review almost physically pains me.

The second book immediately picks up right where Forgetting August left. I won’t elaborate so as to avoid any major spoilers. For the first one-third of the story, I was eagerly reading, finding myself drawn to how things were shaping up now that August started regaining his memories. I found myself empathizing with both Everly and August as they faced their respective inner demons; Everly second-guessing her future with Ryan (unsure if it was just pre-wedding jitters or genuine regret over her decision) and August struggling with his identity.

However, above everything else, I fell more and more in love with Ryan. In my earlier review of Forgetting August, I mentioned (in detail) how much I admired the strength of his character and how effortlessly easy it was for me to emotionally connect with him. Honestly? That did not change. Although Ryan’s exposure in the sequel was quite limited, every scene Ryan was in easily became one of my favorites throughout my reading experience.

Here’s where this review takes a sharp left turn, fellow reader. I struggled to appreciate the latter two-thirds of the book. In fact, I could not. I had a great deal of issues with a little bit of everything, which came as a shock to me considering how emotionally swept away I was with Forgetting August. Let’s break them down, yes?

Personally, Problem #1 was how badly the storyline seemed to drag. The pacing was sluggish at best and frustratingly tedious at worst. For a significant bulk of the story, nothing relevant was happening and nothing was developing — nada. More than a handful of scenes were just mundane, filler-type content that collectively did not hold any bearing to the overall plot. It was the sort of thing you’d get from asking a random stranger, “Hey, how was your day?” as a sad attempt for small talk. Maybe s/he’d have something interesting to say, maybe not – either way, you can’t bring yourself to care.

Admittedly, Remembering Everly picked up at little in the last hundred pages or so, but it did extremely little to pique my interest.

Problem #2 was the dreadful monotony. What began as empathy for the complicated romance between August and Everly quickly morphed into a (seemingly endless) series of eye-rolls. There was a lot of back-and-forth drivel throughout the middle. I love August but he hates me now. I love Everly but she isn’t safe with me. I love August but I’m scared. I love Everly but I shouldn’t want her. Do I still want to be with August? Should I still fight for Everly knowing full well that Ryan is a faultless god compared to me? What do I do? What do I do? That sort of repetitive shebang with cheesy dialogue tossed into the salad. Needless to say, it was not my cup of tea.

In the end, the chemistry between the two fell flat probably because everyone got fed up with reading about how adamantly crazy they were for each other and how they kept trying to oppress their romantic feelings (keyword: trying). But that’s probably just me.

Trent’s character constitutes as Problem #3. As the self-appointed villain of the story, Trent appeared to be nothing more than the backside of a cereal’s cardboard box – the side that’s not graced by morning sunlight streaming through the kitchen’s open window. Instead of totally slaying this evil role ala Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (the sole redeeming grace in that horrendous film), Trent was one-dimensional and forgettable as a villain.

Let’s move on to Problem #4 otherwise known as Everly’s character development and its poor execution. Similar to its predecessor, Everly and August were physically apart for a huge chunk of the book. A part of me appreciated this as it paved way for Everly to find herself and to unearth her personal goals and ambitions as a capable woman. She finally addressed one of her flaws as a character: her overly dependent nature. Which was great. She finally decided to reclaim her life and to pursue her dreams. Which was equally great. She finally realized that she had to get her act together before trying to fix other people. Which was, again, great. She finally learned the necessity of independence and personal strength. Also pretty fucking great.

All right, so what exactly are you struggling with here, Shealea?

While all her self-actualizations and tiny epiphanies were commendable, her actual progress as a developing character was ephemeral. My point is simple. Everly was not given the fullest opportunity to grow as a heroine. She should have been given more time to actually work through her issues. Instead, what we were given was an underdeveloped heroine and a ridiculously rushed resolution, the latter being Problem #5.

Overall, the second installment to this series was completely predictable—which isn’t necessarily a negative thing. In fact, I find most contemporary romance novels to be greatly predictable but I’ve still managed to enjoy reading a decent number of them. However, with Problems 1 to 5 in the mix of things, predictability quickly evolves into Problem #6.

Now, onto the more pressing matter: Shealea, why should this book be read?

1. Ryan’s character.

2. J.L. Berg’s writing style. Despite the monotony, tedious pacing and half-baked plot, it’s apparent that the author has a lovely way of weaving sentences and crafting eloquent prose.

3. My main struggle with Forgetting August (as mentioned in my review) was forming a solid opinion of August’s character. I had a lot of mixed feelings, and I could not really fathom whether I liked him or not. After reading this novel, I have finally made up my mind.

4. Closure. Truth be told, Forgetting August left readers, including myself, numerous questions—not just ones that wondered what would happen but also those that tackled what happened (e.g. Why did August mistreat Everly in the first place? What scared August?). The answers to these queries are all revealed in the sequel.

Despite everything I disliked about Remembering Everly, I am still a fan of the author’s writing. I honestly don’t believe that the first installment of this series was merely a fluke because I greatly enjoyed Berg’s other novel, When You’re Ready, which I have yet to review.

Would I reread Remembering Everly? Probably not. Would I be interested in a spin-off novel that centers around Ryan’s life? Most likely yes. Am I looking forward to the author’s next novel? Absolutely.

The long wait is over!

I was left with a really to-die for cliffhanger that had me off the edge of my seat. Nevertheless, it kept me excited for the next and final book in this duology. Yes, the first book had my blood powerfully pumping into my veins after all the discovery and the memory coming back to August.

Once again, Everly ran back to Ryan. August preferred solitude after everything that was happening thinking that it could save them all, if not just Everly. And he thought it was enough. Until Trent has something else up his sleeve that they haven’t seen coming.

Everly was getting married soon and August was still stubborn to let go of her. Will they have their happy ending?

We get to know more about August and about his past as his memories begun to resurface one by one. Some of it good but most of what he remembered shed light to what really happened that night and the circumstances that surrounded it. We might have some nagging thoughts about him and his past or about Trent. Is he the good guy? Or is he one of the bad?

As for Everly, I learned to like her in this novel. She finally became honest with herself and what she wants. It took some time, and some mistakes on her part. But fate, whatever happens, when you two are meant for each other, will move mountains for the two of you to be together again. In this case, it took a lot of sacrifice, honesty, and not to mention danger.

Just like the first book, this one will keep you awake in the wee hours of the morning. The thrill and the suspense just doubled, and I couldn’t wait to know what’s going to happen to everyone in the story. There are some surprising twist even I didn’t see coming (both good and bad), and it was such a great relief, that after the gruesome, heart-wrenching journey the future seemed to be brighter for the both of them. It wasn’t easy for the both of them, but it was worth it. I do really love the ending. Everyone got what they deserved!

This is a review for book 2 in the Lost and Found series, you should read book 1 prior to reading book 2 or reading the reviews below.
ARC provided via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

August remembers everything after the coma, or so he says, and he's pushed Everly away, unable to forgive her for what she did to him. Everly is trying to let life return to normal, but she can't forget the love she had for August, it outweighs the bad. When August's past threatens to catch up to him, he has to make a decision when it is Everly's life on the line.

Book 1 ended on such a massive cliffhanger I thought I would never get over the book hangover that followed. Everly and August allowed their past to get in between them, ruining the second chance they had after August awoke from his coma. Just like before, I loved August and Everly, they're such unique characters, even when Everly is being weak, and their love is the kind that can move mountains. Though Remembering Everly doesn't have as much angst as Forgetting August, it takes the reader down the path of each character's life after they separated again and it is incredibly hard to read and think they are doing the right thing. As a reader, I knew the characters weren't meant to be living separated and finally J.L. Berg gave me what I wanted. Though it came with twists, secrets, and some fear, finally these two are together. I really loved August's memories coming back to him, the good and the bad, and finally learning about what had happened between them that we never fully understood.

Unfortunately, Remember Everly doesn't feel like an independent novel, it just feels like missing chapters from Forgetting August. It is the story of August and Everly coming back together and finally facing their past in hopes of a happy ending, but there isn't much more to it. It feels like a long novel, because we see August and Everly living separately, making decisions I hated, but understood. I loved reading everything finally tie together and make sense, but it didn't feel like a unique story.

Forgetting August was one of my favorite reads in 2015, I fell in love with the characters and the story line. The writing was superb and is just as good in Remembering Everly. I went into this book with so many questions and the feelings I was left with from book 1 never wavered; I was really pleased with how J.L. Berg closed up this duet. If you are interested in Forgetting August and Remembering Everly I definitely suggest you pick up both books, because you won't be able to stop reading after book 1 and trust me, the torture of not knowing is hard after that cliffhanger! I really loved the Lost & Found series and highly recommend it, along with any other J.L. Berg novel.

What a waste!! I liked the first book in this series, loved the concept of amnesia and lost loves but I found myself skimming through this book. Too long and too slow with little action for my taste.

My Remembering Everly Review . . .

After Forgetting August I couldn't wait to find out how this story ended.  Unfortunately since it was a bit of time between the two I forgot many details of Forgetting August leaving me a tiny bit lost in the beginning of this book.  After I got my bearings back I was sucked back into the story.

At the end of Forgetting August, Everly decided to leave August from the fear that what August was before will come back and August didn't stop her.   What we find out in this story is the why's of August past and present behavior.   Even though he loves Everly more than anything he's trying to do what's right for her.

After leaving August for the second time, Everly walks right back into the arms of Ryan for the second time and this time she goes full steam ahead with that choice.

Was I marrying Ryan for the right reasons?  (Don't even get me started on this decision.  Argh! )

As Everly is making probably the worst decision of her life she finally starts to question the motives of August.

"He didn't love me enough to stay."

"Or maybe he loved you enough to go?"

Now that she's finally seeing the light, Everly has to start finding who she is and what she wants.

" . . . So do us all a favor, take the time to decide what you want.  For real this time."

After finally realizing what she needs Everly starts to come into her own and get the back bone she's always needed, especially where August is concerned.  August has an innate need to protect Everly but he can't do it alone when his fears are coming to the forefront no matter what he tries to do.

"Because if there's one thing that's remained the same, it's your damned need to protect everyone-regardless of how it affects you, us, or anything else.  As long as we're all safe, it doesn't matter-isn't that right, August?"

I really did love August and Everly together but sadly I didn't love some of their decisions.  I understood them but it didn't make the story for me, if anything it had the opposite effect.  I liked the idea of this story so much but I have to admit that the ONLY thing I didn't love was Everly going back and forth between Ryan and August. But sadly that was a big part of the book.  I understood that she couldn't be alone, I truly did, but it was hard to read the train wreck of her decisions.  Everly and August are supposed to be this big epic couple of soulmates but Everly was quick to jump back and forth between two men for someone who was soulmates with one of them.   This part of the story unfortunately made me disconnect a bit causing me not to love the story as much as I could have.   Her constantly going back to Ryan to me diminished the profoundness of her and August.

Thankfully Everly gets her head on straight but sadly never really spends time by herself to truly realize who she is by herself.  When you can truly love yourself and can be by yourself it helps relationship have a much stronger foundation.  I absolutely LOVED the idea of this duet.  Loved it! But Everly weakened my love for the actual story.  This is just my opinion on Everly because I KNOW that this particular character trait that didn't resonate well with me, WILL resonate well with others causing a totally different reading experience.

****MILD SPOILERS****

This story is the follow up novel to Forgetting August, the first in the Lost and Found series. We follow the characters August, Everly, and Ryan to the conclusion of their story line. You need to have read the first book to read this one and understand it.

At the end of the first one, we have learned that August has regained his memories, particularly of the event that put him into a coma. He has chosen money and Trent over Everly. Everly is back with Ryan, her fiancé, because of his decision.

I was so taken with the story in the first book, I was very excited to read this book. However, I felt the story fell short for the first 1/2 of this book. Everly lost herself and was so much less of what her character was in the first book. I realize that she was adrift in the sea of wedding planning that her heart wasn't in, but I couldn't connect to her like I could in the first book, even when she was with Ryan. And the eventual dissolution of their relationship felt so mutual, it was near unbelievable. August, on the other hand, was so drunk that he couldn't function and shut everyone out. This was all very early on in the book.

The first part of the book was weak, in my opinion. I felt a strong loss of connection to the characters and the story. However, the second half was much better. The story picked up, the plot thickened, there were twists and turns. The resolution was so sweet, so beautiful, so complete.

I recommend this series and if you feel a lull in the book, push through it. It does get better! Although I found I was disconnecting to the characters, they were actually character building moments, when I reflected on them.

Remembering Everly is the second and final book in the Lost and Found series. After finishing the first book Forgetting August (HUGE CLIFFHANGER HERE), I could not wait to get my hands on this one to see how the story wrapped up………

At the end of Forgetting August we are left wondering what is going to happen to this couple. Will they be able to move forward? Will August forgive Everly for what he believes she had a hand in his wrong doing? And ultimately WHAT HAPPENED to get us to this point !!?? Because of these questions, I was kept on the edge of my seat NEEDING answers!

In Remembering Everly we quickly find out that things are not always what they seem……. I did have a bit of a struggle with Everly’s character in the second book, she didn’t seem to be the same person. She was struggling being in a relationship she did not want to be in but quickly the author grabbed my attention and wrote a strong plot, with all the twists and turns I loved in the first book.

I definitely recommend reading both of the books together. I am NOT a fan of cliffhangers, I struggle with remembering the first story when I finally get a chance to read the second, however J Berg wrote a beautiful unique story with characters that were very easy to love.

4.5 Fabulous stars... what a ride this one was, and I absolutely loved every minute of it.

I was seriously left with my jaw on the floor and going WTF just happened at the end of Forgetting August so to say I have been anxiously awaiting this one is a true understatement. Remembering Everly picked right up with where we left off and finally in bits and pieces, put the story of August and Everly back together.

I was hoping for something better but it just didn’t get there for me.

I definitely liked Everly a bit more this time even though she was still a bit annoying. I felt both bad for August and wanted to shake him until he made the correct decision on anything.

Trent is a massively psychotic turd burger and I wished someone would have kicked him in his no-no place.

I flipped through so much useless information in this book, I’d say I skipped like 20%, the Paris adventure alone was just unnecessary. There were just so many unneeded detail passages that really didn’t add to the plot at all and really dragged down the book.

To be honest, by the time the end of the book arrived I was so over the entire series and I still don’t understand the point of the Sarah bonus scene at the end.

I’m glad this duet is done because it was just painful to read a book about immature people trying to take down a deranged mastermind by breaking up and screwing other people constantly and then getting back together.

“I feel like I’m living a life everyone expects of me, August,” she murmured.
I could hear the tears she was trying to keep at bay. “Then live the life meant for you,” I urged.
“What if that life was supposed to be with you?”

Hooray! I’m so glad that I was finally able to read the conclusion of August and Everly’s story to find out what happened after the huge cliffhanger at the end of Forgetting August! Where that book leaves off will have your jaw on the floor and will make you question everything you thought you knew. This book picks up where that one leaves off and despite a sort of slow start, it ultimately turns into a twisty turny story that will keep you flipping pages so you can figure out how this all turns out! It answers all of the questions from the first book and really gives you more insight into August’s past and what kind of man he really was. The danger and suspense definitely heat up in the second half of this book as August’s past and present collide and threaten to destroy any chance he has at a happily ever after.

No matter how messed up we were together, we were a hundred times worse when we were apart.

It’s no secret that August and Everly have had a tumultuous relationship, both before the incident that left him in a coma and then again once he’s awake. Forgetting August messed with your head as you tried to reconcile this “new” August to the August of Everly’s memories. Then after the bombshell at the end, everything was thrown in the air again. One of my favorite things about this book was learning who the real August was. We got a number of “flashbacks” as August tried to sort through his memories and it quickly became apparent that things were not always what they seemed based on what we learned in the first book. My heart went out to him again in this book as he struggled with wanting a future with Everly but needing to keep her at arm’s length to try to keep her safe from the evils of his past.

Loving him had always been as easy as breathing. Hating him – that had always been difficult.

Everly also had plenty of ups and downs as she tried to balance planning her future with another man and her still unresolved feelings for August. If you read my review of the first book then you may remember my conflicting feelings towards Everly and her relationship with Ryan. In my heart I knew she belonged with August and was rooting for them to find their way back to one another somehow, but I was torn because Ryan was such a great guy and I was a little disappointed in Everly for not giving their relationship the respect it deserved. Based on where things stood at the end of the first book I was worried for how that would all play out, but without spoiling anything, I will say that I was pleased with how that situation was handled and by the end of the book was thrilled with how it turned out. I also liked that it gave Everly a little bit of time to find herself and spread her wings. I thought the title of the book was fitting, not only for August as he begins to remember things about their past, but also for Everly as she remembers what’s important to her and what she wants to get out of life. I thought her character did grow over the course of this story and I really liked that.

As I mentioned earlier, the first half of the book was a little slow and might leave you wondering “where’s the romance” but if you look at the entire story, it’s just a small blip in an otherwise exciting and romantic story. The second half of the book really does pick up though and I loved seeing everything unfold. There were a few things that I was able to guess ahead of time, but there were still plenty of twists that I wasn’t expecting. It was great when everyone stopped working against one another and started working together to make things right and finally fight for their future and HEA!

I thought this was a great ending to this duet and to Everly and August’s story. The epilogue made me so happy! Now that both books are available, I would highly recommend reading Forgetting August and Remembering Everly back to back. I think that the lull at the beginning of this book wouldn’t be as noticeable if you read both books as one continuous story (like it’s intended) because the whole first book and the second half of this one are so action packed. Either way, I thought this was a unique story and very different from J.L. Berg’s other books, but I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend!

Through the years, we’d lost each other over an over – to greed, loss of trust, and a thousand memories scattered in the wind. But our love had never surrendered.

Meh... It was a okay book but it sadly did not live up to the previous book. I found both characters to be extremely annoying, especially Everly and how easily she went back to her former fiancé, Ryan. Also, the ending seemed convenient, everything just fell back into place and was wrapped up into a neat little bow.

**Beth's Review 4.5 STARS**

Project1

I absolutely loved Forgetting August but after not realizing until the very of the book that it was a series book, I was left with my jaw on the floor and totally feeling like I had whiplash with that WTF ending. I was left with a serious book hangover and had so many questions running through my head, the most important one being, what direction was the story going to take now that we know what truly happened the night August ended up in a coma for two years.

Remembering Everly picked right up from where we left off in Forgetting August. August now knows what happened that night and he tells exactly that to Everly, as she is trying on her wedding dress to get married to Ryan. August pushed her away and Ryan has accepted her back with open arms and they are planning to spend the rest of their lives together so why can she not stop thinking of August. Why can she not stop loving him. August loves Everly and it kills him to see her moving on with Ryan, but she is safe and happy and being as far away from him is the only thing he truly wants, the heartbreak is worth it if Everly is safe.

You truly could feel the amount of love between Everly and August right from the beginning of this series. Their love was a love that would never diminish nor die. You really got to see how strong their connection was in this book. I really loved Everly’s character in this book, I loved how strong she became, how determined she was. She had her moments of weakness but I loved that too, and as frustrating as it was at times, it made her character and the book feel more real.

I fell in love with August’s character in Forgetting August, but he still had that dark side to him for me in that book. The side of him that locked Everly away, he was possessive and had a jealous sideto him. But he was a changed man, no longer that monster. Things all quickly changed at the end when he remembered what happened, but would he go back to the man he once was. We learn though in this book that as he begins to get pieces of his memory back, we see August in the past but we see a different August than the one Everly lived with. We learn truly how much August loved her. His possessiveness was not out of jealousy but out of fear for her safety and in the end, he loved her enough to push her away to keep her safe.

Overall this book and the series was a fabulous story, it had me on the edge of my seat so many times, it had me heartbroken as I sat back and watched these two lonely and broken souls who were meant to be together but were living apart. The series was so unique and fresh that it pulled me in right from the very start grabbing a hold of me and just wouldn’t let go until I was done. Both these books kept me completely engaged, to the point I couldn’t put it down and was forgoing sleep but it was so worth it. I am new to JL Berg’s book but she has definitely made me a huge fan and I can’t wait to check out more of her work.

3 - Secrets never die... Stars.

I was expecting big things from Remembering Everly after the cliffy that J.L. Berg left readers with at the end of Forgetting August, but in all honesty I was left feeling a little…

Personally, I felt this was a classic case of stretching out one book into two. Although well written and for the most part not a struggle too read, I found I had passed the 60% mark without anything of real note actually happening, in fact most of it was almost the first book on repeat, massively long internal monologues from the pair of them that bordered on repetitive and definitely reminded me of the whole situation from the beginning of the first book as well. A lot of it could have easily been paired down, and just put together in one, albeit slightly longer book.

Mild spoilers ahead if you haven’t read the first book.

Everly now back with Ryan (Again) is in full steam ahead wedding planning mode(Again), whilst constantly thinking about August, (sounds familiar right) without going into the nitty-gritty, things happen between Everly/August & Everly/Ryan prior to her walking down the aisle and once again Everly finds herself un-engaged and this time sleeping in her best friends spare room. However, to mix things up a bit the author does send her and her best friend to Paris on her non-Honeymoon.

"I feel like I’m living a life everyone expects of me…"
"Then live the life meant for you."

After the way things were left at the end of Forgetting August I have to admit I was expecting much more of a bang with this book, even the synopsys alludes to it. But I just felt the whole Trent situation was barely developed on for a large portion of the story and then seemed to be thrown in at the end as a way to finish the book off. A lot of questions were raised and not really answered in full, all the while Everly and August once again worked through all their feelings for each other. The other issue I had is that a lot of the twists thrown into the rest of the book just seemed unnecessary and more for padding and page count than adding any value or any depth to the story.

"We made it back to each other eventually."

I kind of just feel ambivalent to the book and characters as a whole. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, nothing really stood out about it, I think my expectations were high, and just weren’t fulfilled on this occasion.

This definitely wouldn’t stop me reading more from the author though, she certainly has a writing style that I didn’t struggle to read, I just wanted a lot more story to go with the lengthy page count.

"We don’t work when we’re apart."

Review: Surj

"Forgetting August (book #1 in the Lost & Found series) was such a beautiful, emotional yet (equally) angst ridden second chance romance that completely swept me off my feet. I loved the characters and their story (with it's air of mystery). But it was the cliff hanger ... that ball buster of a cliff hanger that had me desperate to read the second and final book in this duology entitled "Remembering Everly." I wanted to see this couple get their HEA but there was still much I didn't know. So much about August Kincaid that remained locked in the past... a past he didn't completely remember. And then of course there was Everly's own little secret that really did throw a spanner in the works too. So of course, with thoughts of the pair going crazy in my mind, the minute I got my hands on this conclusion to their story, I couldn't resist. I got stuck right in.

"Remembering Everly" began more or less where "forgetting August" finished which was great but very quickly, I found myself feeling a little bit disconnected from the story. I don't think I could give you one specific reason but the further I read, the more the little niggles started to bother me. The pace of the book definitely felt much slower than the first book and I guess there seemed to be a lot of content that (in my opinion) was unnecessary. There were so many occasions I found myself skimming paragraphs and even pages just to get to bits that I felt influenced the overall story instead of (what felt like) fillers.

In terms of August and Everly, I loved these characters in the first book but felt completely disconnected from them in the second. I kept hoping this would change and my feelings for each of them would resurface but it didn't happen. Each of them had so many moments where they drove me crazy. Where I found myself going round and round in circles with the couple to the point where they frustrated the hell out of me. The decisions they made, the paths they chose felt so ... I don't know... forced and in the same breath unnecessary. I needed more from them but I felt I just got the same thing time and time again. As August's past continued to resurface, I was hoping something would come to his mind that would bring back that nervous, unsettling sense of foreboding I'd had in the first book but it just didn't come. When everything did finally come to ahead, I felt so disconnected from the characters and the story that it just didn't affect me the way I had hoped.

I'm really gutted this conclusion to Everly and August's story didn't 100% work for me. There were definitely good bits but those were unfortunately overshadowed by the bits that just didn't work for me. I rated "Remembering Everly" ❤️❤️❤️

August and Everly were on the way to starting their lives again. But once August's memories start to return, secrets are revealed and his old life and demons come back to haunt him. His life is once again out of control. And the only way to protect Everly is to push her away.

Everly has a tendency to avoid or run. She tends to hide her head in the sand and try to move forward blindly. She is trying to stick firm to her choice this time and not be as flighty and erratic. But her heart and head do not always have the same answer. She remains conflicted over two men. She has guilt over some of her past decisions and deceptions. She has feelings of insecurity and she is also hurt about where things stand with her and August. She is trying to find her way, her future, and her true home.

August is fighting to keep her safe even if it means sacrificing himself. August's two lives are colliding and he is struggling to figure out who he really is and wants to be. He is stuck in a situation that he cannot control and it is hard to see a way out. He is trying to handle it all alone. He is falling deeper into his dark past and coping mechanisms.

And they are both left floundering and miserable. But they can't do anything about it unless he really learns to trust her, let her in, and let her help. And she has to find her own strength to push him and fight for what she needs.

Is it safer for her to be away from him or are they stronger together? Is an unstable love connection enough to conquer their past, keep them safe in the present, and protect their future?

I liked the side characters that returned: Her best friend Sarah, their counselors Brick and Tabitha, Ryan, Trudy, and Magnolia. They all had a hand in offering support or help at some point for these two struggling individuals. And the antagonist was shifty and definitely unlikable.

This is an angsty story of a love that was broken, challenged, pushed away, and even forgotten but was always there pulling them back. There is a mystery and suspense component, and the questions we had from the first book Forgetting August are all answered as the story progresses. I enjoyed getting both points of view and that the characters both showed growth in this one. This is a unique duet with an intriguing story line, mystery, secrets, and complex, flawed characters.

Remembering Everly is the long-awaited sequel to Forgetting August, and picks up right where the first installment in the duet left off. One sentence in, and your immediately pulled right back into the thick of things, and hit with the same level of of gut wrenching intensity that you had in the first book!

August Kincaid's past has finally caught up to him and the memories are slowly making a reappearance in his mind, and have him struggling to cope with everything in his life. They have also put him in dangerous company with someone who is threatening his future with Everly, which causes him to have to make some difficult decisions, that wind up putting Everly back in the arms of Ryan, her fiance. While August struggles to make sense of things and deals with the devastating loss of Everly, he finds himself submersed into alcoholic oblivion and shuts everyone out for their own personal safety. And from there the hits just keep coming and the action continues to escalate, and it had me on the edge of my seat flying through the pages desperate for answers and in search of what I hoped to be a well deserved happily ever after for these two... and all I can say is that I found that and SO much more!! Loved every minute of this duet, one paragraph into it and I was hooked, and taken on one hell of a emotional roller coaster ride, that left me in complete literary bliss!!

If you like reading spicy romance stories packed with heated intensity, raw passion, thrilling suspense, and two alpha males vying for the same women's heart then this is DEFINITELY the perfect read for you! This duet is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through and linger with you long after the last page is turned!!

Remembering Everly is book two in the Lost & Found series. Thankfully I read both books back to back since Forgetting August left us with an epic cliffhanger! I couldn't download the second book fast enough. This series is filled with ups and downs and is quite addicting. It's one of those stories that when you are finished you realize that real life is happening around you while you've been wrapped up in a highly emotional fictional world. I actually really enjoyed this story and realized that I hadn't had a book put me in this type of emotional state in a while.

This story, like Forgetting August continues to be intriguing and a bit suspenseful. If you think the first book gave you whiplash with the back and forth this story will have your head spinning. August Kincaid now has his some of his memory back. He's on a mission to protect Everly from his actions and lifestyle prior to his accident. Everly continues to be all over the place. It seemed like one minute she's with her fiancé Ryan and the next she's exploring the relationship with August. They are both in a difficult situation, but the more time they spend apart, they both realize the connection between each other.

More details are revealed about August Kincaid's life prior to his memory loss. You get a full understanding of Everly's hesitation to jump back into things with him. The entire story has a suspenseful feel to it as you know there are things to come. At times the story felt like it was dragging, but overall this series is very entertaining. It's one that will surely get you all worked up. I think I went from loving to hating these characters all in a matter of minutes, many times.

This is a series I would definitely recommend. It's a wild ride at times, but one that's attention grabbing, full of angst and with many twists and turns.

"...secrets never die. They live far longer than we do, and they always find their way to the surface."

August and Everly. We were taken captive by their story in Forgetting August. And now we come to the finality of their story in Remembering Everly

"It's time we moved past the memories that have defined us for so long. You are August, and I am Everly...and for as long as I can remember, I have loved you. Even when things were bleak, and it seemed like our future was lost, that was the one thing that remained constant - my love for you."

This was such a difficult story to begin reading. Told in dual points of view, Remembering Everly brought back every joy and pain that I felt in Forgetting August. There were moments of pleasure, heartache, reprieve, and possibilities, each causing more ties to be forged or broken, making way for the future. I was so nervous, and my anxiety never stopped until the very end. The characters showed depth and change, but still had a sense of self-preservation that allowed for unexpected twists. This is likely an odd thing to add into a review, but this book made made crave coffee like a crazy person. At least every other page I fought the urge to get up and make a pot, choosing to repeatedly deny myself the pleasure so I wouldn't have to leave August and Everly (you'll get this when you read it). Coming to the end, I found a since of relief and an ability to inhale and exhale deeply, knowing that wrongs had been righted and there was a sense of peace. So glad to have a conclusion for this couple who stole my heart.

"I would love him for everything he was, everything he wasn't, and everything we could be together."
