Nature Walk

The Squirrel

Rate this book
Because squirrels can be seen almost every where, people may not give them much thought, but they are a fascinating part of North American wildlife. Squirrels have learned to live in close contact with humans, and some even depend on humans for the food they need to survive. The Squirrel shows how they have learned to adapt to and thrive in a changing environment.

This book about squirrel is a nonfiction book. I believe its intended audience is children ages 9-11. I say this because the vocabulary is a little more challenging than the other nonfiction books I have written reviews for. This book informs the reader about the lives and behaviors of squirrels. This book goes through each type of squirrel, were they live, what they eat and more. I rated this book with 5 stars. I gave this book 5 stars because it teaches young readers about how squirrels live,, how to interact with squirrels and even what to do if you come in contact with a squirrel. I believe this book is appealing to young readers because it allows them to gain knowledge on a squirrels life and habitat. It also teaches children how to feed squirrels and hoe to take care of squirrels if you find one who is left helpless. When using this book to work with children I would first ask them about their expiernece with squirrels. I would than read the book to them and afterwards have them make squirrel feeders. We would make squirrel feeders by cutting 12oz bottles in half and placing sting around them to tie around the trees. I would than have them take the squirrel feeder home and have them tie it around a tree in their yard and place squirrel food in it so that the squirrels would come and eat from them.

This is a great book for anyone interested in squirrels. It's filled with great resource information and interesting pictures. The reading is aged for teenage levels so be warned.
