What do you get when you cross an ex-Navy SEAL with one incredibly smoking hot bodyguard?
That would be my new stepbrother, Cain Theroux.
Too bad I didn’t know that when I stumbled into him on the street and then flirted with him. Yep, that was just my luck. The sexy and brooding alpha male was the same guy my father had just hired to protect me from my stalker. And despite the intense chemistry between us, Cain made it clear that his clients are off limits.
But the longer we spend together, the harder those rules are to follow. The attraction is high, but the stakes are even higher. As a famous Hollywood actress, I have an image to uphold. If the press got one word of this, they’d tear me to shreds.
It’s true what they say. Sometimes the sweetest temptations are also the most forbidden…
This book was pretty good! If you want a quick taboo read this is the book for you.
I thought the book overall was good. The thing that could have been better for me is the ending. The ending felt so rushed. At times I felt like the ending was missing some details to better understand the reason for why that character was doing what they did.
When I read I like to be "connected" with the characters. I this one, at times. I did not feel as connected with the characters. I don't quite know if you understand what I just said but that's how I felt about the characters. ;)
I like that the author tried to put a big stalker type thing in this short/quick read, but could it have been better with more details and stuff like that? I think so.
Ava is a B list celebrity who lives in Hollywood she aspires to make it on her own. Her father is a movie producer and her mother was a beautiful actress. She is used to the busy life style with following paparazzi. Her father thinks she is in need of a body guard to keep her safe and has already found the perfect muscle.
Cain is her new step-brother and although Ava’s father remarried a while ago she has been avoiding meeting the new family. Late for an important date Ava bumps into a sexy obnoxious hunk spilling hot coffee all over him. He may be beautiful but his personality is unforgiving. Little does Ava know that this man is her stepbrother, Cain. Ex-navy seal, Cain is now working with a small team of men as a task force of body guards. He has taken on a job from this new step-dad to protect his only daughter. She doesn’t realise the danger she is in and Cain is determined to keep her safe. As the story unfolds there attraction grows stronger and temptation is difficult to resist.
I rate this book 3.5 stars out of 5. It is a nice easy read. Cain doesn’t usually date his clients and this is the angle of taboo in this book rather than the step-sibling relationship. It is action packed and has a creative approach however I feel it could have been longer/more descriptive in places.
Overall I would recommend it as a bedtime read.

4 stars.
I like taboo books and it seems that step siblings is on the roll right now. But I got used to books where the step-brother was either a prick or older or generally mean. But what a pleasant surpsise-Cain is actually nice. Well nice isn't the best word for him but there you have it. I liked how his and Ava's relationship evolved. They both had their insecurities and fought them to be together. I don't usually like dom-sub relations but it turns out there can be those written in such a way I like them. It's a firt book by this author for me but it definitely won't be th last.
Wowizers! This book is hot. The author did an amazing job on writing this story and keeping you hooked from the beginning till the very end. The story never loses it's plot and even has a HEA :)
Ava is on her own and has had a troubled life. She doesn't wish anyone to experience what she went through as a child. After so many years, she now has a stalker and it's getting worse. When she goes to her dad's house, she learns that her father and stepmother have an intervention as they want her safe. When she learns that her stepbrother Cain will be the new bodyguard, she doesn't know how to react as she has thoughts she shouldn't have of him. She knows that Cain won't date or have a relationship with any clients however the more time they spend together, the harder it is to resist. Things start getting worse for Ava with her stalker but luckily she has Cain and his associates.
Cain is an ex-seal and started his own security firm. He will do whatever it takes to protect his clients and always makes sure that he has more staff. When he learns that his stepsister has a stalker and it's getting worse each day, he wants to protect her. When the attraction he feels for her, he must put that aside so he can keep her safe but he will make sure that no other man takes what is his. The more time he spends with her, the harder it is to fight the attraction. He will stop at nothing to protect Ava and make sure she is safe and remains his.
This book will have you drawn in from the beginning. The characters have a strong connection and the chemistry is hot! The battles and struggles come and both of them stick together to face them and put a stop to it all. The more that they are around each other, the stronger they become. Overall, a book so worth reading and can be reread :)
This was a great story! I absolutely loved it! The characters were great and very well written. Ava has had a stalker for years and he is escalating. Her father is worried about her and so hires bodyguards to protect her. The team leader, happens to be her new step-brother. They are both drawn to the other but both plan to try and avoid acting on it for different reasons. Ava has low self-esteem from what has happened to her in the past and Cain doesn't usually do relationships. He has his own reasons for it. But they have a hard time being successful. Ava is a natural submissive and wants to please the people that she cares about. Cain is a dominant. These natural tendencies draw them even closer is normal activities. I loved the way that they started to build their relationship. They didn't jump right into it because of their situation and so instead got to know each other. I really liked their interactions with each other and with the other characters. You get to see a lot of the other two bodyguards and I would love to get their stories. I loved how all the characters were great and I grew attached to them all. This story is really well written and flows very smoothly. Once I started reading the story, I didn't want to put it down. The sex is explicit and has a little kink but not much. It fits the characters and their personalities so everything is natural and believable. They are step-siblings and this does play a part because of the public and the connections that they have but beyond that it is not a big factor in the story. This was my first book I've read by Collette French but I enjoyed it so much that I will definitely be looking for more. I would definitely recommend giving this a chance.
*ARC received in return for honest review* This is not your typical stepbrother romance. In fact, that relationship had little to do with the story at all. Ava is a B movie actress, daughter of a Hollywood movie producer and a movie star. Ava has dark things in her past that are still effecting her. Someone dangerous is stalking her and her father is beside himself with fear for the daughter he loves more than anything in the world. That's why he hires protection for her in the form of the son of his new wife, who just happens to own a security company. From the beginning, Cain is drawn to Ava, her natural submissiveness calling to the Dom in him. Protecting her is his main priority but he finds himself falling for her against his better judgment. Ava, feeling safe in his arms finds pleasure with him she has never known but suddenly she is in more danger than ever.
The parents in this book are not villainous caricatures as in many stepbrother books. Ava and Cain don't have that oh so common love-hate relationship, where they spar with each other all of the time. She is in real danger. There are not a lot of laughs in this book but it's a well told story with characters you care about. The book blurb does not do this story justice. This romantic suspense story is a great read.
Ava is an actress, not an A list actress but she still gets in the tabloids from time to time. But she has bigger problems than tabloids. She has a man after her that seems to be a ghost. The cops can’t catch him and he is watching her every move. So when her father steps in and hires her a security team, Ava tries to shoot the idea down. Funny thing is that she has met two for the guys the day before, Cain was the guy she bumped into and spilled hot coffee on and Adam is his friend. Turns out that Cain is her new step-brother, his mother Amy married her dad Roy. They know the attraction they are feeling is wrong, they can’t help themselves. While Jason gets closer to catching Ava, Cain is learning to let go and feel again. Ava and Cain have a past that will break your heart and it will take each other to pull them into a future that may be best for them both. Will Cain be able to keep Ava safe or will she try to push him away because of a secret she is keeping from him? Will they ever catch Jason before he gets to Ava? I would have liked a little more before the last chapter, just so the story didn’t seem rushed. This is a first for me from Collette French and I loved it. And I can’t wait to read more from her. **Copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest review**
Ava, a B-list actress with a stalker, just wants to quietly live her life. With a painful past and the personal need for privacy bodyguards are not what she wants.
Cain is a SEAL, who owns his own high profile security company. Agreeing to take Ava's case wasn't the hard part, realizing she is his new stepsister, being with her around the clock, now that's testing him to his limits.
Ava is kind, compassionate and beautiful. Cain is sexy, dominating, and strong. When these two meet, the sparks fly. This story had my emotions keyed up! This was an adrenaline filled drama. There were laugh out loud moments, scenes when I lost my breath, and times I cheered the characters on. The story line was compelling and heart wrenching at times. From a crazy stalker to ex-lovers, and all the emotional past they had to overcome, these two really had things stacked against them. But, it was fascinating to see how their story unraveled. The passion between Ava and Cain ranged from frenzied to emotional and sweet. There was not a moment that didn't have my full attention, I completely enjoyed this one!
I don't typically like reading stories on actresses and that lifestyle but this one was pretty good. Not quit a five star for me but better than three stars. Ava and Cain made a good couple, each having their own insecurities and demons in their life. It was a fast read with some action, some chemistry and mild sex scenes...well mild for me even though Cain was portrayed as dominant. There are some minor editing needs with words here and there but not too bad. Parts of the story did seems rushed, where other parts were longer than I felt necessary. It was nice to read a story where the H/h was able to communicate. Yes there were a few small secrets but even that came out quickly without dragging on. If you have time and want to give something a try, this one could work.
This one was different than all the other stepbrother stories out there It wasn't all about the sex and taboo. Yes, Ava and Cain were related but there was an actual story in there. Don't get me wrong, I love the other stepbrother books, but this one was great. Everything didn't lead or solve by sex. Ava is a B list actress and Cain is an ex-Navy Seal turned bodyguard. He has been tasked to care for Ava. The only thing that I didn't like about this story was it took to long to find out about Jason and what happened to Ava. I wish we would have found out sooner. If you are looking for a stepbrother story that's not bogged down with sex, pick this up. Yes, there is still hot sex but your not overwhelmed with it. It does have an HEA.
Cain by Collette French Note that I got this story in return for an honest review. I liked this story. OK it’s a tried and tested format – woman needs bodyguard, they fall in love and HEA. There are a couple of parts to it that are out of the norm which brings the story from being banal to being good. There is, however, one point, and I’ve found it in a couple of books now. The author put the past tense of to lie, as in to lie down, as lied. To me this is the past tense of to lie as in to tell a falsehood. The past tense of to lie, as in to lie down, is lay i.e. she lay in the sun not she lied in the sun. Is this an American thing or just bad grammar?
I loved loved loved this book! Captivating from the get go, it is totally addictive! Take a smart mouth, cocky, sexy alpha male and a sweet, gorgeous, shy leading lady, add some psychological baggage and childhood trauma mix in sizzling chemistry and a stalker on the loose... Now how can you resist???? Well written with an interesting story, amazing characters, a good plot and lots of twists, Cain is enthralling, sexy and impossible to put down!!! Two thumbs up high in the air!!!!
I'm not into the BDSM scene at all, so I was disappointed when I realised the book had those elements. However, the story underneath it all was quite a good one. The drama and plot are well worked into the taboo scene without making it all sordid.
I had a bit of a problem at first adjusting to the POVs, and for me, I thought more details could've been given about both lead characters and the stalker situation.
