A small, northeastern town lay in ruins after a mysterious electromagnetic pulse causes a massive blackout, leaving residents stunned and unprepared. But the loss of power is only the beginning. With no signs of assistance on the horizons and no way of knowing how far the blackout has spread, residents are left to deal with a world without power, communications, and vehicle mobility. The government is absent. Food and supplies have been pillaged, and families must choose whether to stay or flee. However, nothing can prepare them for the onslaught of a horde of escaped convicts who band together and take over the town.
Rob Parker and his family have taken refuge in their cabin in the mountains with a small group of preppers—families like them, who took quick, decisive action on the day of the blast: September 12, 2106. Two months have passed and the news transmitted through their emergency radio indicates that things have only gotten worse throughout the entire country. Their plan to hunker down and survive in the mountains using their combined prepper skills is gravely threatened by the discovery of their community. The calculating leader of the convicts, a man who refers to himself as the new Mayor of Nyack, proposes an offer: enter a trading pact with his people or face the repercussions. But Rob knows that whatever deal his people make, they must be ready to defend their mountain community by any means necessary. He is certain that one day the convicts will soon strike. And the day of a total assault on their camp is rapidly approaching.
In this new thrilling disaster series, author Roger Hayden continues the saga of his best-selling EMP series, “The Pulse,” taking readers on an intense, terrifying journey through a digital-dependent world striped of both its modern conveniences and humanity.
Mr Roger Hayden, like your interest to teach us to be prepared. But you need to pay attention to your writing. Thank you for the free book. Started with; Two months before: September 12, 2016. Two months after: September 16, 2016. This book starts with: Two months have passed at the mountain and date is: September 12, 2106. That's not the end, under the heading "Civil War" date is: November 22, 2015. Also don't like to read a book that doesn't have an ending, don't like to by the next book to find out what happened. I can't do what you are doing, English isn't my main language.
Felt that in the scheme of a possible future event this hits close to truth, however there are a lot of contradictions that spoil what could have been an almost dead on interpretation of things to come for us at some point.
Read as part of a box set and this book did not stand out from the others, it in fact became just one more theme in the foursome that predicted death and destruction on such a global scale it was depressing as well as terrifyingly a possibility down the road even without an EMP event.
This story is too near a possibility in this current world that we live in to ignore! Realistic enough to keep me spellbound to the last! And I will be watching intently for book 2 to be released. I don't think I have read anything previously by this author. I'm genuinely impressed!
I like dystopian books, this is one of the better ones. Roger actually writes with reality in how the children in this book behave. It was refreshing to read a book, where the children's behavior is closer to reality. I believe that people as a whole would react to an EMP blast the way the Roger wrote about it. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series, and more of Roger Hayden's books as well.
Another exciting "chapter" in the story of an EMP strike against the U.S. Very quick-paced as prepper strategies face the psychotic minds of the escaped criminal elements. Unbelievable! Very well-written. Anxious to start the next book!
A great book but it is a cliffhanger. The peppers are on their own. HOPEFULLY the power comes back on in time. Unfortunately this scenario is all to real. Would give this five stars but with this being a cliffhanger, the ending is important.
I do not like the fact that the story is broken up into so many short pieces, making you have to buy the books to find out how it ends. Not happy about it.
This is a great start to the series but the end is a huge heart-pounding "huh." The story is well told but the many different points of views were hard for me to enjoy the story more.
