But is the responsibility of watching someone else's pup too much for Kat and Maya to handle?

This is a cute early chapter book in the "Puppy Pals" series. It is a series definitely geared to young girls. The main characters are Kat and her best friend Maya. They are puppy freaks, although neither of them has a dog of their own. They have been in the same class at school every year until this one. It is tough for Kat as she is quiet and shy and is being teased this year. When her Aunt Jenn opens a dog grooming salon that also boards animals, Kat and Maya offer to help out with a puppy named Bailey that is boarding for a few days. Are they responsible enough for this job? Will they make the right decisions?

There are some cute black and white illustrations in the book that add to the story. This is a series that little girls, especially those that love animals (dogs in particular) will enjoy. Short simple chapters will keep them interested. A good book for late primary, early junior classrooms as well as elementary school libraries.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Such a cute book! The two girls are in fourth grade and love puppies more than anything in the world. They land a job at the aunt's grooming business and are assigned to entertain Bailey, a yellow lab puppy. They get very comfortable and are very tempted to break the rules with Bailey. But they decide against it. By making the right decision, they are awarded with more jobs!

A great book for young kids. Two thumbs up from my seven year old.

This is part of a very sweet series with tons of books, so perfect if you’ve got a dog lover in your house! I especially like the family dynamic and the sibling relationships here, and my girls loved learning about fostering dogs.

This book is cute. Kat and her friend Maya have been best friends forever and both love dogs. Kat wants a dog but her parents keep telling her no. Kat's aunt has opened a dog-grooming salon and Kat and Maya get to go help out Kat's aunt after school. There is a dog named Bailey that someone has left for boarding for several days and Kat's aunt asks the girls if they can come and play with the dog and give him some exercise. Kat and Maya love helping out but they want to take Bailey outside so he can explore. Kat's aunt told them the first day not to take him outside. They learn at the end of the story why she said that. This is a good story to help teach responsibility and learning to listen. I got this for free in a GoodReads Giveaway.

Puppy Pals tells the story of two girls who absolutely LOVE puppies. They have the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at Tails Up! Boarding and Grooming owned by the aunt of one of the girls. I can totally identify with these girls, as I was also a huge puppy (and kitten) lover while growing up. I would have been thrilled to volunteer at a boarding and grooming place.
The girls really enjoy taking care of Bailey and develop responsibilities while learning how to care for puppies.

I would recommend this book to any child, especially those interested in puppies, kittens, and animals. The writing is easy-to-follow and the story has cute illustrations.

I received this complimentary book through Goodreads and I'm so glad I did!

Disclosure: I won this book for free through the Goodreads Giveaways. This is my honest review.

I am an elementary ESL teacher. I think students from grades 2-4, mostly, would enjoy this book. This is a cute book, and will be especially interesting for children who like dogs and puppies.
It does include teasing, which is hard for one of the girls in the story.
The one typo I found was one of the girl's names is not consistent--sometimes it says Cara and sometimes it says Cora. This was slightly confusing for me and could be for young children as well. I think many of my students will enjoy reading this book.

I won Bailey by Susan Hughes from Goodreads.

Susan Hughes ' delightful book, Bailey, is sure to become a favorite of beginning readers. Written for ages seven and up, this chapter book with sweet illustrations will also be a favorite of pre-readers and the adults who read aloud to them.
While following the adventures of Kat and Maya as they care for the puppy, Bailey, new readers will want to keep turning pages as they develop reading skills and learn a few important lessons.
Bailey is a sweet story that is perfect for all young readers.

I got this book from Good Reads.

Geared towards children 7 to 10 years of age, mainly because the two main characters are two girls of this age, I found it very entertaining. I love dogs (all animals, really) and the chapters are short and kept my interest.

A book every library should have.
