Daredevil is back in New York, this time working for the District Attorney's office. With Blindspot at his side, can he protect Billy Li from the Church of Tenfingers?

Yeah, it didn't take long for Marvel to toss out all of Mark Waid's changes on Daredevil. No one remembers Matt Murdock is Daredevil, Foggy is cancer free, and Daredevil's wearing his black costume again. Blindspot makes an interesting sidekick for Daredevil. At least they haven't gone completely back to the Frank Miller formula of Daredevil misery. I'll skip the rant I have brewing about Marvel's "Illusion of Change" policy this time.

Matt Murdock working for the DA is a new wrinkle but it may be a case of to-may-to/to-mah-to when all is said and done.

This new beginning for Daredevil feels about 90% status quo but it was good for what it is. We'll see how things shake out in subsequent issues. Three out of five stars.

Daredevil is up to his old tricks. This time saving a man a criminal organization wants dead.
description
Matt Murdoch is also now an ADA. In fact he's the ADA that needs that very criminal to testify.

Daredevil has never really been all that interesting to me. His abilities are impressive and it's remarkable that he's a blind lawyer, but that just never means all that much to me. I don't have anything to say about this issue, it's all the standard Daredevil stuff.

Welcome back Daredevil! Or I should say that I have returned to reading Daredevil. A fan from years ago...I left most Marvel comics but returned thanks to the great show on Netflix. This revamped series appears to be trying to give that same type of feeling from the TV series. Guess I might need to go further back and see how the previous volume ended. Not sure how Matt got the whole world to forget he is Daredevil.

Update** I checked the web and discovered that Marvel has NOT yet revealed how this happened OR how Daredevil came across his sidekick "Blindspot". So it appears I picked a good time to jump back on the Daredevil bandwagon, as the rest of the world is just as much in the dark as I am.

I hope the reason is not too goofy. As this type of thing is what made me leave regular comics for a while. Like how can the entire world forget Daredevil is Murdock? Within minutes of the world finding out this information would have all over the web, written down in papers/books. What could cause all of this info to go away?

I get the feel they are going for with the artwork, but going with that style the whole way through isn't really appeasing. I'd rather it just be black and white than the colors mixed with a bunch of un-detailed work. Part of the reason I read comics is to enjoy the artwork of it, and it's fast moving.

Now, when it comes to plot, this is fast moving. It does not initially let me trust the newbie in this, even if Daredevil does a little too easily. It will be interesting to see how their relationship pans out.

A new Daredevil series and a complete reset to the status quo. I have hope that this will get interesting but I’m a little bummed that this isn’t building off the Waid story at all. In fact it’s disregarding it.
Waid’s last issue had Foggy give a beautiful speech on why Matt didn’t need a secret identity, now one issue later, in a new series, he did something to make everyone magically forget his secret identity and he’s back in New York.
Please let this get interesting. It’s not bad, I’m enjoying it, good art and good writing, but don’t just do the same old thing.

3-4 stars, since it's always hard to tell after one issue.

As a fan, I approve. I love the moodiness of the artwork, which is back to noir, but still distinct from the Bendis and Brubaker runs. The restricted color palate goes a long way, and I like the throwback to halftone dots in the coloring.

Daredevil is back to being dark and on the good-evil edge of vigilante, with the ante (no pun intended) raised by the fact that Matt Murdock is not a defense lawyer anymore, but an assistant district attorney who's willing to make deals with criminals to put worse criminals behind bars.

The situation is such that it's back to there being tension between Foggy and Matt about the ethics of a double life as a lawyer and a vigilante. One of the things I love about Daredevil is his friendship with Foggy, so I hope things improve!

How do I feel about the loner Daredevil having a sidekick? I'm not sure, but I didn't mind Blindspot too much, and I have to say that I'm intrigued by a dude who's an illegal Chinese immigrant genius who constructed an invisible suit for himself.

artwork 1
storyline 4

Soule's writing is excellent and this looks to be a great storyline, however, Garney's artwork is a tremendous letdown. It is so bad that in many cells you can't even tell what is going on. Maybe I got a bad copy but the inks were terrible as well. Bleeding outside of the forms and either over colorized on the reds or the blacks and greys were to washed out.
I would have enjoyed the story more knowing about his side kick Blindspot, although he does look like a cook character i simply don't know anything at all about him.

Clunky writing and uneven storytelling, this Daredevil feels disjointed. I read Daredevil when I was younger but failed to escape that world especially after the super dark TV show. I do love the show but that's another review. The villain didn't payoff and they really should of kept him in the dark for a few issues. Seems like an odd villain to kickoff a series 1 issue. The art is fantastic even if the writing is sub par.

So, after plowing through the complete Marvel Knights Daredevil (Smith, Mack, Bendis, Brubaker, and Dingle runs), as well as the two Mark Waid runs, this new one is weird. Before this there was always some connective tissue between runs. Either the previous writer left a cliffhanger to complete, or the new one made enough references to recent runs that you felt the changing of the guard go smoothly. With this run it feels like there is a missing gap (or more like a canyon) of story. Completely new suit, a new sidekick already half trained, some ominous ritual to hide Daredevil’s previous public outing of his secret identity, a move back to NYC from San Francisco, Foggy being pissed at Matt again after they bonded during his cancer diagnosis, his switching from a defense attorney to a newly appointed ADA, and the disappearance of Kristen McDuffie. Pant pant. Too much change…

Not really a fan of the illustration. Among the ALL-NEW Marvel titles, this one is the least likely to hold my interest (so far).

Lowkey the perfect premiere issue directly explaining the new status quo while still leaving room for intrigue

Who's gonna tell Tenfingers he should change his name to Twentyfingers tho...

New Suit. New job. New Sidekick. Matt Murdock dives into the scene once again as Daredevil. Literally. The opening page shows Daredevil in mid-dive off the Manhattan Bridge into the East River to save a punk who'll testify against Ten-fingers, a Chinese cult leader in New york City. Stupid name, 'Ten-fingers', you're thinking. But the guy really has ten fingers which is cool (and gross). But the high point of this issue is the art. Heavily stylized pencils draped almost completely in shadowy inks and colors ranging from monochrome washes of red, two-toned combinations of blue and black to highlighted flashes of yellow and white accentuating key movements make this issue an absolute delight to read. The story is just set up in this book giving us an idea of what we might be getting into in future issues. And believe me, you'd wanna get into this alright. 4 stars. I give 'em without hesitation. Blindly (no offense Matt).

I love the Netflix series because Matt is an asshole-with-a-disability like I have never seen before. He uses it when he wants to and ignores it when he doesn't and all of his friends hate him. Not to mention his enemies. He's not a bad guy, just a jerk who always thinks he is right; so in that way he is an everyman. Which makes his "normal," and that's why I love him (hope my logic makes sense on that one). But I still don't like superhero comics. I thought I'd give it a try and so I did. No. I don't even need to read three comics just to make sure. Just no.

Wow!

A promising start, I've chosen my Marvel titles for this season already and I'm afraid that there will be no space for Daredevil, but I liked this new atmosphere, it reminds me of Deep dark fears with a generous touch of black ink.
