The Jam: Our Story

Rate this book
Told without any razzmatazz or myth making, they are our thoughts and memories of how it was for us. The good, the bad and even some of the ugly are contained within these pages. They capture a time in our lives when we had the time of our lives.

It's not often I give up on a book halfway through but this is now sitting in a charity shop waiting to bore someone else.
Anyone wishing for a lid lifting, warts and all, biography are in for disappointment as it's certainly not that. It's the story of The Jam, rushed through at breakneck speed but also and predominantly "hilarious" anecdotes and jolly japes involving Bruce, Rick, and sometimes Paul and wears thin very quickly. If you imagine someone turning hotel door number from 66 to 99 with a screwdriver you'll get the idea. Avoid at all costs if your over the age of twelve.

A quick and short biography co-written with Alex Ogg. It's not the best written music bio, but it does keep the reader's interest and does offer another view of the The Jam without the Paul Weller influence. [Noted, Weller does come off as a bit of a ponce here, but Foxton and Buckler both admit to being just as bad during their short but powerful tenure.]

This book has been passed around between myself and friends for a couple of years. We consider it to be something of a cult classic.
I don't know how many books have been written since mankind first put pen to paper, but amongst those millions of books it stands to reason there must be one that is the worst ever written. Well here it is! It must be cherished like a rare gem, for I believe we will not see the like of it again..

Small wonder Paul Weller says The Jam will never get back together! These guys talk more about the frat boy pranks & drinking than the musical culture surrounding the band or songwriting development.
