Congratulations on your decision to become a supervillain! You have chosen to embark on a career of excitement, dynamic action, and the opportunity for endless personal and financial enrichment. I recommend you read this book in full before beginning your journey, as approximately six out of ten villains are captured or killed before completing their third extra-legal activity. Any portion of these instructions you neglect to read before then will represent a small waste of money on your part.
- excerpt from Villainy for Dummies! by Professor Parasite
Shawn Simmons lives in a world of superpowers. Until now he's always been content to walk beneath as his Heroes fly over, happy in the knowledge that he was making a contribution. But when his job hands him an opportunity for some much-needed heroics of his own, Shawn finds himself press ganged into the company of the world's largest villainous organization. Before long he's on the wrong side of both the super-powered and the powers that be.
Now caught in the cruel clutches of a comic book cabal, Shawn is trapped between the criminal intentions of the planet's most feared supervillains and a woman with even higher aspirations. Can he escape from his poor decisions before he loses his family, his identity, and his life?
Good Intentions: A Supervillain Story is a novel that celebrates and lampoons the conventions of superhero comic books, while approaching the subject from a completely new angle. It's full of interesting bad guys, kick-ass women of both virtuous and dubious nature, heart-pounding action, and a protagonist who would really prefer to avoid it.
Good not great. The story was engaging and nothing too unbelievable in a story about superheroes. The heroes and villains act the part and our main character does something brash, but also something we could relate to thinking about. The main character is a stength of this novel and I do NOT say that lightly nowadays. We get a lot of idiots, Mary Sues, perfects, or even boring characters. The MC is none of these things.
I was debating between a 3 and a 4 for this book. I made it all the way through so 3 no matter what. It kept me engaged throughout. The problem HAS to be both the ending and Cassandra. Cassandra is portrayed as a perfect character with reading the future. She is always right and leading Shawn in all these decisions. We get no closure at the end of the novel. We dont know what happened to Cassandra or even what happened with Shawn... We get snippets of 2-3 pages at the end and not enough. I didnt like Cassandra cause that ego of hers grades on you throughout the book and just wishing that Shawn could find a way to pull one over on her.
It entertained me and for I like that heroic villain kind of book which we dont get a lot of. Hell we dont get a lot of good superhero books. I wouldnt mind a book 2 with this one but that doesnt look to be in the cards. All around good not great novel.
Suffers from the main protagonist and antagonist interactions being.... less than entertaining?.. I am not sure but the said interactions/conversations weren't as enjoyable as the rest of the book. This undoubtedly is opinion based and many might find it to their liking. But I did not. Not a bad book otherwise.
I wanted to love this book. But the main protagonist is beta. So much so that another character comes right out and describes him that way.
The protagonist made one decision that led him on his path of villainy. Just one real decision. Then he let others make decisions for him. He became a cog in the machine.
Fun read. Actually a good view of how some villains fall into the path of supervillainy. I enjoyed all the everyday life bits of heroes and villains, and citizens who deal with both.
A different spin on the whole superhero good vs. evil romp. Here, you get a decent guy who becomes a villain for all the right reasons. Plenty of plot twists, intrigues, and head scratching moments of wondering how our villain is going to get out of each predicament. A decent page turner!
This was an excellent read. We enjoy the heroes but we love digging into the backgrounds of the villain's. Enjoy as our protagonist struggle with his morals.
