Trent Davenport isn’t your average rich playboy. He may have wealth, but what he doesn’t have is patience—for people who include the opposite sex. Loving his solitude, Trent was taken by surprise with his need to possess his new neighbor.
Lily Mason’s life is in transition. Moving in with her father and his wife and kids, she’s regretting the decision immediately. Per her father’s bidding, she knocks on the rumored curmudgeon’s door.
Knock. Knock.
Expecting to be snarled at, she was surprised to see a beast of a different kind. The man answered the door with just a towel around his waist and a smirk across his chiseled face. Running scared, she leaves before she can be locked away.
Trent loses the opportunity to trap her in his old mansion when she flees, but he’s not giving up. Because once he gets her in his home, he’s never letting her out.
This book is about a 29 year old extremely self absorbed and singularly focused business man named Trent, who spot a vision in white one day at an intersection. He can hardly function, he thinks "I'm so consumed by my snow bunny that I hardly acknowledge my assistant on my way to my office." One look and he was hooked, obsessed and now focused on a new goal, FINDING HER AND KEEPING HER!
Now finding her would ultimately be easier than he could have ever imagined as she was his new neighbor, hence the title here. He sees her again in town and he goes to introduce himself, he thinks "I can feel my mouth start to salivate. I pull myself together and make sure she knows my name. I want her to be thinking about me and calling my name out in her dreams or when she’s satisfying herself."
Now the heroine Lily is a 21 years old resent University grad who is battling with extreme feelings of her own! She sees him and think "Damn, does he feel amazing. It’s so overwhelming; I’ve got to run. I make my excuses...." "All I can think about is how much I want to be in Trent’s arms." However, she is conflicted because of what her father had expected from her. She doesn't want to be used as a pawn in her dirty father's business deals. She is trying to find her own place and assert her independence.
And just when she was on the verge of leaving, she is stopped by a surprising turns of events! I won't spoil it for you here but it's was unexpected to say the least. Resulting her having to alter her plans and effectively centering her priorities. As she is dealing with the consequences of this event, the hero steps in and offers her shelter and more.... "As she sits on the bed in one of the hospital gowns, she looks so small and sad. I know then and there that I would give my last breath to keep her safe and loved."
Now what happens next....I will never tell but it's really worth reading about...well for me it was.
C.M. STEELE wrote a really intriguing and captivating short story of two different individuals, whom while focused on others things, find in each other the most important component missing from their lives, LOVE. Well done and I really enjoyed it! I have already read this book 3 times. It's a quick, funny, HOT tale with mystery and passion. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a little drama and fun in their romance along with some very satisfying smut scenes. The book was just....
Safety: it's completely safe (like most of CM Steele works) without cheating and some drama. He has been celibate for over 6 years and she is virgin. No condoms used.
Well, that's exactly how I felt after the book hit past the 70% mark. I'm so disappointed by what happened after that that I frankly said don't give a shit anymore about how the story ends. *sigh* Another one bites the dust... :(
I can't think of anything that I actually liked about this book, there was however a lot that I didn't like. - the writing was repetitive
- the main hero was an ass and obsessed with someone just because they were dressed in white (I don't think he even saw her face before declaring his days were nothing if he didn't have her)
- the heroine was feisty one second and a wet flannel the next
- plus the whole 'evil Stepmother' and belligerent uncaring Father aspect was a bore and unnecessary
The only reason I kept reading was because I expected the hero to redeem his asshole ways and make me want him. Looking at this author's other books I see I'm often left disappointed. Time to step away.
I didn't know what to read before I started this one. Sometimes, there's a lot of books to choose from and yet, you don't know which one to read. So I decided to read a book of one of my favorite authors and I enjoyed it.
The story was about Trent, 29 and Lily, 21.
Trent's a wealthy man and owned an investment company but he was a loner. He was on his way to his office when a woman crossing the street caught his attention. He can't get her out of his mind. He looked for her. Even asked a friend to locate all female owners of a white MKX.
His new neighbors just moved in but he's not interested to meet them so he just ignored them every time he passed their house. He didn't know the woman he'd been looking for was his new neighbor until she knocked on his door.
Lily's mom was killed a few years back. She just graduated college and her father asked her to move in with them. She just found out the reason why. It's to use her to get Trent to do business with him. He wanted her daughter to sleep with Trent. She told him she wouldn't do it for him and planned to leave the same day. But something happened Thankfully, she's not harmed. Trent was also there to help her.
Her father changed since he met her stepmother. She's not a good person. In fact, both of them were evil.
Trent was a great man. He brought her to his home and took care of her. He protected her and didn't let her family hurt her. There were some obstacles and misunderstandings along the way but everything was fixed in the end and they had their HEA with a nice epilogue.
2.5 stars I just wasn't into it. It was ok but not good. I lost interest about halfway through and then they both acted like idiots. Heroine was really immature and boring. Hero was boring and insecure. The drama was dumb. The suspense plot was unrealistic in every way.
The very end showed me examples of why this author does not work for me. One of them being when in the Hero's POV he says he does a "happy dance". Puleese! Men do not do happy dances!
This was a nice reading! It was a short story kind of for Christmas time!I liked Trent's character, he was all weird and lonely but he didn't care what others thought about him!He didn't like people very much so he kept his distance from them! The whole town thought he was the weird man from the hills! Trent is a possessive alpha male when he sees "his snow bunny" Lily!He can't understand the way he feels and his insta attraction to her!He tries to find her with every way he can.He is a rich man but not your typical play boy and a control freak with everything in his life. His work is his life...of course until Lily!(surprise, surprise there...)
Lily was your typical blond hair blue eyes girl and everyone wanted her...She moved with her awful family next to Trent's small masion. Her father and step mother are the worst people ever...She meets Trent and there is insta-can't-keep-my-eyes-and-hands-to-myself kind of thing...
This book is an isnta-love story with an overprotecting alpha male and a hepless little girl!It was an ok reading!I liked the story and the plot with her family and the ways that Trent tried to find the truth and protect his bunny! There are some sexy scenes...
3.25 stars.sweet, really insta love story. Super obsessed hero which I loved. For me towards the end I kind of was losing some interest but none the less this was a decent read.
safety : hero has been celibate for 6 years . I don't think he was a manwhore. it really isn't mentioned. heroine is a virgin. slight other woman drama. Hero was never with her . she tries to cause drama by telling heroine that they slept together . I didn't like that the h ran away . that was pretty immature. Hero does get me a little upset because after weeks apart h is pregnant and he asked if it's another mans. now I can't say I blame him entirely because she did leave him for 3 weeks because she thought he was sleeping with that ow and he thought maybe she was hurt thinking that and wanted revenge or comfort. also she was staying with her friend who is a guy. he doesn't know anything about him. (this friend is gay). so really I didn't like that he asked that but it didn't really get me to upset. they both made stupid mistakes.
I have to say I fell in love with this cover. I am in love with this models collection of stock images (I might have purchased all of them for no real purpose, other than to have them). But that is where the love affair ends.
I would love to say that the growly-over-the-top-possessive-alpha-male that is Trent made up for the lack of everything else, but it did not. Beyond a few moments where he does/says something that made me smile and get a bit excited, this story lacked everything else for me.
We start off with Trent, the reclusive billionaire who sees a woman and instantly wants her. Lily moves in to the house next door after graduating college with her shitty dad and step-family. But suddenly lands herself in Trent’s house. After all, in six years he’s been celibate and just looking at her made his dick twitch – so he had to have her.
Then it just gets worse. Rapid fire. No finesse to the story, not build up or structure and honestly it was just one crazy thing after another with really no point. I am not a mean girl reviewer. I hate it when I dislike a book. I typically can pull something about it that I liked and chalk it up to it just not being the book for me. But for the first time in a long time, I am almost a little pissed off about how much I disliked this one.
I love an aggressive and demanding alpha male and do not mind insta-love, but just tossing all of those things into a book doesn’t make a story. The story is still the most important part of the damn book. And this just lacked the any semblance of a story. I am shaking my head at the fact that this being a KU title is getting ranked the way it is. Sadly although KU is helping a lot of authors get exposure, it is quite possibly the worst thing that has been introduced to the reading community. I guess we can only wait until it implodes, because if this is what we have to look forward to, it will no doubt implode.
I'm going to need irrefutable proof to believe this is not AI-generated
[...] they all think I keep to myself because I'm hideous. I laugh because I can give any of those chumps in Hollywood a run for their money. I'm tall, muscular, and my face is considered hot by every woman I've ever met.
🪦 First of all, this dude is on the phone, having a conversation about a new neighbor with his housekeeper. He's upset because he likes his solitude, but then suddenly laughs??? How crazy would that sound in real life 😬
Aggghhh Clearly this gr reading challenge has me under a spell because surely there's a no other reason that I would have bothered finishing this one otherwise???!!!
I didn't like this one as much as I love C.M. Steele's stories for some reason.. I honestly felt myself skimming at one point. I didn't feel these two characters as much. He was possessive and loving but.. it just was missing something :( Its probably just me.
if you have a taste for *an egotistical H *good as a puppet h *OTT cheesiness with insta-love/lust at 1st sight *unbelievable evilness of a father to his daughter *unbelievable stalker-obsessing attitude of a secretary to her boss Lol!
Then, maybe, this book is for you, i dunno, if the author's goal is to make the readers laugh till their tummies hurt, because, if it so, C.M.S. was definitely successful in making mine. Laughing so hard, that I'm reading my next steele book!
The writing was okay, but I do love a possessive, alpha hero so I was willing to look past some things. However, I thought it was in bad taste how the heroine attacked the hero's assistant. The hero's assistant was saying some snarky things to the heroine, but there was no reason for her to use physical violence. The heroine was not threatened or being harmed at the time. The assistant, Dana, just said some things for drama effect. (loc 64%) The story lost me after this. I initially liked the heroine and hero. I liked the suspense/mystery of the story. It was a fun, mindless, sexy read until "I slam her head against the desk." Not for me.
I was so excited since this was a bit of a beauty and the beast theme. The heroine moves in with her father and step-mother. The heroine's next door neighbor is a moody, secluded, rich man. The man instantly finds the heroine alluring and wants to make her "mine". It was insta-love and everything.
Recluse Trent Davenport has never been infatuated with a woman before, but the first time he sees Lily Mason he is just that. He doesn't know who she is or why she is in his town, but the moment he finds her he is keeping her safely by his side.
This was a weird one, Trent goes from being a dominant man to a weird stalker type who nicknames his girl Bunny. It just didn't work for me this time, a little too silly.
It was just too insta love/possessiveness for me and usually I'm a goner for possessive heros but with this I just didn't feel it. He basically sees the heroine in a puffy white jacket and is in love. I just couldn't connect with that or H/h.
It was for sure one of the worst books I have read this year. I didn't find his protectiveness endearing at all. I thought it made him a controlling (excuse my language) jackass. It was one of these stupid Insta loves, where they've only met once, but now they want kids together. It wasn't at all anything I got sucked into, nor did I find anything in the book that seemed like a healthy relationship. I'm just glad it's over.
°Virgin heroine °Hero's been celibate for 6 years °Switching POVs °Insta love/lust °She's 21, he's 29 °Possessive obsessed OTT alpha hero °Immature heroine °OW drama from the hero's assistant °3 week separation - both faithful °No OM drama °No cheating °Intimate scenes only between hero and heroine °Epilogue: 1 year later
If you love alpha male stories you'll like this. There is insta-love, plenty of sexy times and background drama to keep the story moving forward. I'd like to see what happens between Dane and Colt. Overall, a good read.
At first I thought Trent was just scrooge, he's so moody, and unpredictable. But once he met his bunny you see a completely different side of him. It was an amazing transformation. When Trent loves he loves deep. And it's also sexy as hell.
Another great book from this author. I can always depend on a fast, fun, fiery read with an innocent heroine who has only been claimed by the hero and a hero who is possessive and dominant. Love it!
Title: Loving My Neighbour Author: C.M. Steele Genre: Contemporary Romance, Adult Series or Standalone: Standalone Rating: ★★★
Review
A new author for me, but one that with this book, along with a pretty great synopsis had something within its pages that while I don’t read nearly enough of it, I do happen to like in my romances.
Instalove.
Like the premise, enjoy seeing it happen, but god do I hate that word. Seeing as the love declaration doesn’t take place until much deeper into the story.
None the less, there was the immediate feel of it here and it worked. I enjoyed that aspect.
I even enjoyed the head over feet, knows what he wants and is hopeless devoted pretty much from the moment he sees her hero here. Alpha guys don’t normally do it for me, they’re an acquired taste, but when I do have a hankering, these are the types I love best. Trent delivered in that regard on every level imaginable.
Add in a female that seems quite demure at first, but is tougher than she looks and well, I was even more sold.
This is a HEA, which is another selling point for me, but is one that comes with just enough drama from internal and external forces to make it work. Make me believe in the two of them in a long lasting way and not just a for today kind.
With all of that being said, with my genuinely enjoying so many different aspects of the story, I found issues in the telling of it. At times it lacking more of the emotion I was looking for. I wanted more reaction and action at points than what I got and because of that, it did hamper a bit of the enjoyment of the story for me. What makes a book a 5* read.
The other aspects won out of course, because overall I did enjoy it. I enjoyed the characters, the situation they found themselves placed in and even the two of them only having eyes for one another. That all came across great.
I just wanted a little something more.
If you’re a fan of a quick read with an “instant connection”, a hero and heroine that only have eyes and love for one another and just the right amount of drama thrown in to make things work, I think you’ll enjoy this one.
