A Senator’s daughter’s life hangs in the balance, and the FBI have suffered a deadly blow. Now Maggie and Jake O’Connor must throw away the play-book and go rogue to rescue the teen victim - before a political conspiracy silences them all for good. But with lives hanging in the balance, there’s no room for error. Will Maggie’s own traumatic past be the key they need to unlock the case - or the weapon that will destroy them all?
Tess Diamond is a romantic suspense addict with a taste for danger - and chocolate cake. She lives in Colorado Springs with her law enforcement husband, two kids, and ferocious Jack Russell guard dog. She always dreamed of being an FBI agent, and now she almost is - if watching 24 reruns and plotting her next novel counts.
Part three of this trilogy was no less exciting than the first two, with some interesting twists and revelations. It looks like Maggie and Jake work well as a team but who knows what the future holds.
This story ended on a crazy ride with one part of the plot still unresolved. I'm hoping we see more of this series as I like this author's writing style.
4 - This was the start of something good. Really, really good. Stars!
Tess Diamond didn’t quite end on the bang I was expecting with this, the final installment in the O’Connor & Kincaid series. But, she did end the story very well, in that the twists and turns kept coming right up to the last chapter, and although everything has been left in something of a holding pattern, this case for Maggie and Jake has well and truly been closed.
”No matter what happens tonight, you and I are in this together.”
More revelations are abound in End Game and although Senator Thebes involvement in everything is put out there for public consumption, the players that are operating over and above him and very much in the shadows are not all revealed. Another thing that leads me to believe that this may not be the authors final visit to this particular cast of characters is that issues from Maggie’s past, which you are lead to believe are very much ’dead & buried’ are given new light as this book progresses.
”Sorry I’m late, Goldilocks.”
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that the relationship between Jake and Maggie wasn’t developed further, but again I think this is purely because the story arc didn’t really leave any place for them to drop and do the horizontal workout, this is also another big reason why I hope we get to see more of this couple in the authors future work.
”There used to be honor among spies.”
As I said things didn’t take the turn I had geared myself up for in this one, but that has become something I have learned to expect from Tess with each installment of the series I have read. My only hope is that going forwards we get books instead of serialized novellas, this isn’t my favorite way to read a story, I didn’t mind it so much this time as the wait between releases has been relatively short.
”So what’s next?”
A question I am really interested in knowing the answer to myself. Tess Diamond is hugely talented, and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for her readers next.
ARC generously provided by the author, and it was a pleasure to provide the above honest review.
I just can't give it four stars. There was great action and suspense. Bad guy taken care of, but a great big gaping hole. Huge. Plus the romance just left a little to be desired. Jake was there all the way, but Maggie didn't seem to be where he was. I really hope there's another book planned for them cause it just seems like a HEA for now, not forever.
I loved Ms. Diamond’s dedication at the beginning of the book:
For my family. Thank you for making me feel loved, and even when I didn’t have a turkey two days before Thanksgiving.
This book picks up exactly where the second one stopped. There is a hostage situation, Roger Mancuso got the drop on the SWAT team. Agent Harrison has a bomb vest on, Kayla is nearly unconscious due to the lack of insulin and Mancuso has a dead man’s switch.
Maggie is still running the show but it is getting harder and harder, Mancuso has nothing left to loose and well collateral is collateral. Senator Thebes has asked Jake to protect what is important to him. Not likely his daughter though. The plot with the oil company runs a lot deeper than expected. Right to the top of the CIA and the bastard Mr. Black who is there to clean up no matter how.
When Mr. Black turned up I was like WTF? But it does all make sense. Maggie was gutsy with her plan and I loved it. I love clever plots and at no time I was guessing what would happen.
Mancuso let something slip that referred to what happened to Maggie and her sister Erica.
I want more Jake and Maggie, damm you Tess! I loved them as characters by themselves and together as a couple. Jake will do anything to protect Maggie. *sigh*
But I swear that when it comes to this book
What will Jake do now that he is unemployed? They have five weeks together then what? The book has an open end so the story about Maggie’s sister Erica will be written and what happened to her?

END GAME (O’Connor & Kincaid: #3) Written by Tess Diamond 2015; Tess Diamond Books (99 Pages) Genre: series, fiction, mystery, suspense, romantic suspense, novella
RATING: 4 STARS
End Game is the third and last book in the O’Connnor & Kincaid series, but from how it ended I don’t think this will be the last time we see Jake and Maggie. As the hostage negotiation continues we see exactly why the senator’s daughter was kidnapped. I won’t say too much about the plot for spoiler reasons, but will say that Diamond ties up the book very well with still leaving her series open to continue in the future. I don’t see Maggie and Jake having an easy time with happily ever after or Maggie not making waves at the FBI again. I also see Maggie digging into her past until she has it all figured up…or at least, I hope that is where Diamond is going!
***I received all eARCs from the AUTHOR***
**In 2017, Avon Books bought the rights and edited these three novellas into one novel, Dangerous Games (FBI: #1). There are two other novels in the FBI series by Diamond
END GAME brings the story begun in DANGEROUS GAMES and continued in GAME OF LIES to its conclusion. The main characters are Maggie and Jake. Maggie is an expert hostage negotiator who left the FBI when a case went wrong. Jake is a former Ranger and currently working as security for a Senator. When the Senator’s 14-year-old diabetic daughter is kidnapped, Maggie is called back to lead the case by her former supervisor. In the first book, she and Jake identify the kidnapper. In the second book, they track him down.
This third book begins at the scene where the law has surrounded the cabin where the kidnapper has his hostage and an additional hostage from the FBI who now has an explosive wired to his chest. This would be a hard enough situation to deal with but Maggie is being undermined by the mysterious Mr. Black who is working for an unnamed agency and who definitely has his own agenda which is placing cover-up far higher than saving the hostage’s lives.
Maggie has to use all her knowledge and experience to find a way to save the hostage’s lives and the kidnapper’s life too. Especially since the kidnapper seems to have knowledge of Maggie’s own kidnapping years ago. Her kidnapping has haunted her life and was the cause of her becoming a hostage negotiator in the first place. Despite her investigation, there are still unanswered questions that Maggie needs answers for.
These three books - actually extended novellas in length - tell a complete story and should be read in order and consecutively to get the whole story. The characters were interesting and I would be willing to read more of Maggie and Jake’s further adventures.
Following Dangerous Games and Game of Lies, this is third in a trilogy featuring Hostage Negotiator Maggie Kincaid and ex-forces security expert Jake O’Connor.
A young girl has been kidnapped by a man who wants something from her Senator father. The only problem is that the Senator will not release the requested information putting his political interests ahead of his diabetic daughter's welfare.
Maggie and Jake are working against the clock ... the kidnapper has the girl held captive in a cabin miles away from civilization. While Maggie is trying her best to connect and earn the guy's trust, a man who goes by Mr. Black does something that may get them all killed.
Jake is quietly investigating Mr. Black and discovers that he is a part of another alphabet organization ... the CIA.
This has been a very good series. Mostly suspense with a little suspense thrown in. The characters are credible, the hostage situation is what one would expect it to be. The ending surprised me a bit, but I feel that although this particular scenario has ended .. we may be seeing Maggie and Jake in the future. Extremely well-written.
My thanks to Tess Diamond, the author, who furnished the digital copies of all three books in her series in exchange for honest and unbiased reviews.
Tess Diamond did a great job at packing this final installment with lots of twists and turns that kept things interesting right up until the last moments.
I would really have liked some more romance in this installment between Maggie and Jake but I understand that the plot didn't really allow for it.
I liked that all the threads surrounding this particular case were resolved but I would have liked some closure around Maggie's past but I am hoping this was left open so that Tess can revisit these characters in future (hint hint).
Overall this was a fun trilogy that I really enjoyed reading.

Love!Love!Love! Seriously, this book made me so happy! I read extremely fast, so at the pace of a novel a day, I frequently get bored with what I'm reading or I can very easily figure out the plot but keep reading because I like the characters. It is a rare treat when a book has me nervous. In this story, between the unpredictability of Mancuso, the conniving underhandedness of the newly arrived Mr. Black, and the downright bullheadedness Maggie displayed, I was completely on edge in the best of ways stressing out about what on earth would happen next.
This book picks up right after the failed attempt to rescue Kayla at the end of book two. The situation has gone from bad to worse with Mancuso adding not only a second hostage but also a bomb to the mix. Maggie's prior warnings are now vindicated, but she is only concerned with saving Kayla and now Paul as well. Maggie and Jake are still working together and covering each other's backs. I will interrupt myself here to say, as I have in reviews of the previous books, that Jake and Maggie are the perfect fit as a couple. There is no alpha in this relationship, just two strong people willing to risk it all for each other and anyone else who needs them. That said, back to the synopsis...
Just when I thought things were getting stressful, but at least a plan was taking shape, all manner of trouble breaks loose. A comment is made referencing the events of Maggie's childhood, Mr. Black arrives to stick his nose (and other assorted body parts) where it doesn't belong and foul up the rescue operation, and members of the team are attacked. At this point, I didn't have a clue what might happen next. When Maggie did finally act, I was shocked by what she did. I don't want to say too much more, because it would ruin the twists and turns. This story does get a real ending, although threads of what might be on the horizon for Maggie are laced thought the book.
I can't say enough about the quality of the writing and my enjoyment of the story. It was a great way to wrap up the kidnapping situation and the nagging employment issues. The series has been wonderful so far.
Thanks so very much to the author who gifted me a copy of this book for review.
Finally!! The conclusion I so desperately needed. End Game is the third and final installment in this heart stopping serial. We pick back up with Maggie and Jake as they're about to change the game. They're going to hunt down the unsub and (hopefully!) save the Senator's daughter.
I was surprised at some of the twists that were thrown at me here. Well played, Tess. Well played. The writing kept me on my toes and the plot kept me engaged. While I absolutely adore romantic suspense for that reason - I was a little bummed that there wasn't a whole lot more romantical interaction between Jake and Maggie. This was definitely heavy on plot over sex. I GUESS THAT'S OK. There's still most definitely a spark between them and their relationship spirals towards the center of the story, but it's not all banging. Regardless, their budding relationship blossoms into something believable and enjoyable.
The story wraps up and loose ends are all tied - except for one. Which totally bugged me. I'm assuming that it was left open so that the thread could continue into the next book/series, but when each serial ends in a cliffhanger I really wanted the last book to solve every piece of the puzzle.
Even still, this FBI danger ridden plotline called to my law and order loving heart. I loved the drama, swooned over Jake and ate up the suspense. 4 stars!
I'm going to start off by saying that even though the title of the book is End Game I really hope it's not the end of the series. I have enjoyed the spark between Maggie and Jake, but even more then that, I want to see more of the badass FBI Agent Margaret "Maggie" Kincaid solving crimes. In this final chapter of the kidnapping of Kayla Thebes, Maggie and Jake risk everything to make sure that Kayla and Paul come away from being held hostage unharmed. There are some MAJOR changes in command and Maggie isn't going to take that as easily as they hoped. Goldilocks is a spitfire!
I have my fingers crossed that there will be more to Maggie & Jake's story, I especially hope that there is more about what happened to Maggie as a child and that she goes on the hunt for the man who kidnapped her and Erica, she gets some answers to her sisters whereabouts.
I have enjoyed this series and I would like to Thank Tess Diamond for the opportunity to read and review for her.

Absolutely fantastic ending to the O'Connor & Kincaid serial. This set of three books must be read in order and within a short amount of time in order to keep the story fresh in your mind. Serial is not my favorite format and yet I just love this one. The plot is top notch, the romance in book 2 was scorching hot and the suspense is never ending. You really have no idea how this is all going to end. I am looking forward to many more books from this author for a long time to come. She is as good as Sandra Brown, Nora Roberts and Linda Howard. Great company to be in.
As End Game opens, Kayla is close to going into a diabetic coma and Paul is strapped to a chair with a bomb around his chest. Maggie and Jake are desperate to come up with a plan to rescue them and take Mancuso, who only wants justice for his brother, alive, if possible without blowing everyone to bits. Into all this steps the mysterious Mr. Black. Who he is, who he works for and what his game is, well, that is all unknown. What Maggie knows is that he does not have the best interests of Paul and Kayla in mind. He takes over, but Maggie's momma didn't raise no quitter and Maggie forces her way back in, changing the whole game and the ending.
This is the third and final book in the O’Connor & Kincaid series and this kept the brilliant pace from the first two books. Tess Diamond has again written a brilliant series and I have loved every page - they are fast paced thrillers and really gripping.
Will this dangerous game end in tragedy for Special Agent Maggie Kincaid?
A Senator’s daughter’s life hangs in the balance, and the FBI have suffered a deadly blow. Now Maggie and Jake O’Connor must throw away the play-book and go rogue to rescue the teen victim - before a political conspiracy silences them all for good. But with lives hanging in the balance, there’s no room for error. Will Maggie’s own traumatic past be the key they need to unlock the case - or the weapon that will destroy them all?
I am genuinely sorry that this is the last book in the series! I have loved the writing style, the pace, characters, plots - I loved it all if I'm honest. I really do hope Maggie and Jake make a come back in another book, they are a great couple and they have just the right about of romance in a book for me, I'll miss them!!
5 stars again from me and thanks so much to Tess for the review copies!
This is the conclusion to the trilogy – or is it? The trauma that shaped Maggie’s life is brought to the fore, but more of that later. The story carries on from exactly where the previous one ended.
Mancuso, Layla and another hostage with a bomb strapped to his torso, are trapped in a remote cabin, surrounded by the FBI and a SWAT team. Maggie and Jake know they are rapidly running out of time. Layla is close to slipping into a diabetic coma and Agent Paul Harrison, the second hostage, only has to make one wrong move and the cabin and its occupants are likely to be blown to pieces.
As Maggie is negotiating with Mancuso to let a doctor in to check on Layla, he makes a comment before disconnecting the call which leaves her reeling.
The situation is critical, made even more so by the arrival of the inscrutable Mr Black, who immediately orders Maggie and Jake off the case. As Jake’s secret investigation into Mr Black reveals who he is, and crucially, who he’s working for, they take matters into their own hands, risking everything to save the hostages and uncover the extent of the corruption which goes so much deeper than they imagined.
I enjoyed this very much, the suspenseful plot kept up the pace with lots of unexpected twists. Although the criminal element of the story is tied up nicely, the question regarding Maggie’s past is left unanswered and her own and Jake’s futures are undetermined. Hopefully these issues will be concluded at a later date, in a full length novel. Tess Diamond is an author to watch out for.
This review is based on a free copy from the author/publisher. This does not affect my opinion or the content of my review.
This was the first time reading anything by this author ,and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this story . This is the 3rd book and the last book in this series in the O'Connor and Kincaid series. But I hope this is not the last we hear about Maggie and Jake because they really are an interesting pair that work great together. Maggie works to keep the hostage negotiations open between her and the kidnapped Mr Black for the Senators daughter ,Jake is doing some investigation into Mr Black , and finds out he's part of a special branch of the CIA. But at the was time the Senator won't tell them what their need to know for them to help his poor kidnapped daughter ,who is be held away from civilization miles away in an cabin, but there don't have time to for mistakes before this poor girl could die because she is a diabetic and will soon need her medication . Maggie is trying so hard to get Mr Black to trust her and to connect with her before they are all killed by him. Tess Diamond writes such an excellent story with characters that connect with her reads and pulls us in from start to finish and leaves us wanting more. I could go on and tell you more about this great story but that would spoil the story for you. But I highly recommend you read this great story you ,won't be disappointed. My thanks to the author who give me the 3 copies of this series in exchange for an honest review .
End Game brings us the thrilling conclusion of the O'Conner and Kincaid series. Again we pick up right where we left off at the end of Game of Lies. And what a mess we were left in.
Maggie and Jake jump right back into the action and try to formulate a plan to get everyone out safely, or as unharmed as possible. They are armed with information and know what the kidnapper was really after, so they hope to be able to diffuse things and calm him down.
Ending this stand off and rescuing the hostages mean more to Maggie than a job well done, it will mean defending her actions in the case, proving herself to those who've questioned her and even a little bit to herself. She knows she can do this and make it work for everyone, but its going to take finesse.
End Game is heart stopping, so much is going on and so much is at risk. It is a blood roaring in your ears, edge of your seat, what's going to happen story. I love how Tess Diamond delivers this story one blow after another, but also weaves a few hopeful moments into it and shows the strength and determination of all those involved, most especially Maggie and Jake.
The conclusion of this book couldn't have been written any better in my opinion.
End Game is the final story in the O'Connor and Kincaid trilogy. We followed Maggie Kincaid on her mission to solve the kidnapping of the senator's daughter, 14 year old Kayla Thebes. This case took us on a roller coaster ride full of twists and turns. For me it was an edge of your seat, page turning suspense sprinkled with a little romance! I have a feeling the way a few things were left open in the story line that we will be seeing Maggie again in the future.. At least I hope so and I truly can't wait! **I would definitely recommend reading this trilogy in order the first book is Dangerous Games Dangerous Games and the second is Game of Lies Game of Lies
Wow! Maggie is more bada$$ than I realized, crazy too but she's all heart. It would appear this is the last in the trilogy but the end left things open for more. Jake would make the perfect partner, in and out of the bedroom. They have such a strong connection without words. This was one of those books I couldn't put down and ignored my children for a bit. Thank you to the author for my review copy.
I really wondered when I ended book two how they could make a third to end this. I really didn't expect this to end how it did at all. My one con is the change of POV. I wish there would have been titles or some sort of consistency. Overall great read and great series
