Book Three of the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy He is forced to marry... Daniel Sinclair is charged by Robert the Bruce to secure the King's ancestral holding in the Lowlands--and marry the daughter of the castle's keeper to secure a shaky alliance. But the lass's spirit matches her fiery hair, and Daniel quickly realizes that the King's "reward" is more than he bargained for. She won't submit without a fight... To protect her secret--and illegal--love of falconry, Rona Kennedy must keep her new husband at arm's length, no matter how much his commanding presence and sinfully handsome face make her knees tremble. But when an all-out war with Raef Warren, the Sinclair clan's greatest enemy, finally erupts, will their growing love be destroyed forever?

After several years as a college English instructor (where she savored her “fun books”—usually historical romances—on the side), Emma turned her love of page-turning, richly historical stories into a career. She lives in drizzly Seattle with her husband, their daughter (the wee lass) and a crazy cat named Oban (after the town in Scotland or the whisky made there, depending on who you ask).

I didn't like Highlander's Reckoning. It was a real disappointment.
Daniel Sinclair youngest brother to Robert Laird of the Sinclair Clan and Garrick The Archer Advisor to King Robert the Bruce. Books 1 and 2 are there stories. Daniel has been sent by The Bruce to become the new Overseer of his ancestral home Lock Doon. The Bruce doesn't trust the current overseer Gilbert Kennedy Laird of the Kennedy Clan. Daniel has also been commanded to marry Rona Kennedy the Lairds daughter and to have Kennedy return to his clan.
Rona Is hiding something. She is a Falconer. Falconry is illegal and his a hobby of only Royalty. A lower ranking person such as Rona could have her hands cut off or even be hanged for breaking this law.
Ok First off I don't like Falconry or the mistreatment of any birds or animals. No I am not an animal lover but this was a barbaric practice. Yeah I know if was a sport. The second Problem I had was I didn't like Rona, she came across as a spoiled brat. Her personally an temper didn't fit with the era of 1300's. She would have a temper tantrum when she didn't get her way. Which results in her guards being killed by the Sinclair's arch enemy Raef Warren and her being beaten kicked punched in the stomach by Warren, to make sure if she was pregnant she would miscarry!! This is another reason I didn't like the story!! This scene is taken from Outlander by Diane Gabaldon and when Black Jack Randall punches Claire Randall Fraser in the stomach and kicks her to make sure she was pregnant by a Scot!! Outlander is now a very popular TV series on Starz!! This author has also, used plot lines from Monica McCarty's Highland Guard. So enough is enough of copying other authors work.
Highlander's Reckoning was a real Disappointment!! I am glad it was only 99cents. It should be free!!
I guess it is only inevitable. Out of 3 brothers, one of them has to end up with a woman who thinks that being "independent" means she should lie and shout "how dare you!" when she gets caught.
The last book in the series, and I think Ms. Prince needs to change her tactics from now on. The first 2 books were fluffy to the fluffiest. I liked the first one a lot, and 80% of the second book even more. This book, marks a rather uninteresting ending to the trilogy.
There is nothing wrong with Daniel. He is a Highlander. Brave and honorable. I would marry him in a blink of an eye. But not our herione Rona. Rona must "be who she is" and "do whatever she wants" and "come and go as she wishes". If not, well, how dare you!
The 3 books are all similar, typical Highland romances. Since the plots are not exactly creative, the characters must be endearing to keep my interest. But I can't warm up to Rona. Falconry, while really cool and intersting, does not exactly make Rona more attractive as a character in my eyes. I just keep thinking: damn what a waste of a strapping Highlander.
Well, at least it was readable. Ms. Prince does write with a loving tone and I like it. Her next book, would need a bit more punch. I hope she could do that while retaining the endearing qualities in Robert and Alwin (from the first book), Garrick and Jossalyn (from the second book). Daniel Sinclair, I personally think you deserve better than Rona.
What a fantastic finish to a trilogy and also a shame as I have enjoyed reading about the brothers and cousin. However there are a few characters who I think deserve their own book and could still have the Sinclair's in it. How about it Emma? Ansell and Fun Sutherland come to mind.
I liked it. It was another well-rounded and stimulating story in what has been an enjoyable and engaging series. I will read this series again. Like the book before it this one was also way too long (for this slow reader looking for fluffy romances). At least 20% of it could’ve been edited down. I do make an effort to not deduct stars for length sense I know the length going in, but it did start to drag. The BIG falconry secret feels beyond contrived. I understand it was a different time but by today’s standards it just felt like a rather silly and innocent secret. And, even back then Daniel was nothing but understanding and patient with Rona, it didn’t need to be this HUGE secret. It maybe wouldn’t have mattered if it weren’t such a huge part of the plot. I loved what happened to Raef Warren. I thought it was very fitting and clever. Prince spent a little too much time on the battle at Loch Doon. This is a romance and I don’t need such a long description of battle. It was at least two chapters of just fighting. I liked both Daniel and Rona, I thought their romance was well written. I have read every book published by Emma Prince, she is one of my favorite authors. She is consistent in her writing ability, usually earning 4-5 stars from me This is my 3rd favorite of the Sinclair Brothers Trilogy. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-5/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5
I always enjoy a good Scottish romance with a solid plot this story was ok even though it was totally predictable. I disliked Rona's spoiled child antics and though it was never addressed she caused the death of the guards and put herself in danger and the effect continued to more disaster. Daniel was too soft on her actions from the very start. For who he was & his position I would have thought he'd been more strict & unforgiving of her childish behavior especially since he wasnt a willing groom. I realize it was a romance novel but the romance should have been further into the story and Rona's character should have matured for what did happen she didnt learn anything or grow up. It was a decent plot but the author still is hung up on repeating thoughts making that part dull.
Rona and Daniel are both people who are hero's that don't let adversity bring them down. Even after being beaten and abducted tortured in a dungeon. Rona cannot sit on the sidelines while Daniel is fighting to defend Loch Doon. She rides to the rescue and that makes me proud of her just as Daniel is even though she decided to defy his request for her to stay out of the fighting.
i have read all four books in the Sinclairs brothers and i loved it , i do recommended you read all four as they all do follow each other and the story line is well written. loved how all four come together to fight the final battle .........
Another truly good story by Emma Pierce. I really love her Highlander stories. though these don't have the period speach they are still interesting just the same.
Great storyline! It has romance, some sex scenes and Scottish history. The story line kept my interest. Loved it! I have read all three books but they can be a separate storyline.
Willful lasses, breathtaking Scottish Warriors and long sought closure!
Loved this eventful story of Daniel Sinclair meeting his match in willowy lass lady Rona Kennedy! But loved even more that this slip of a girl brought the coward, Raef Warren, to his well deserved end!
The youngest Sinclair brother is to take over Loch Doom castle and marry Rona Kennedy by order of King Robert the Bruce. Daniel and Rona never met before but they fell in love. They did defend the castle and fought against the English.
I was sad to finish this because that is the end of the Sinclair’s. I always want more!!! This too was such a wonderful wonderful book. I’m off to read more of Emma Prince’s books!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😊😊😊😊😊💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I don't normally read books based this far back in history, but Emma Prince does a great job of capturing attention and keeping the reader engaged and interested. Totally recommend this book and the series.
I did not like the way Daniel and Rona consumated their marriage. It didn't have to be that painful, and there is not excuse for him "losing his grip on his control". He was more gentle the second time around.
I like the paces they went through to build their trust, instead of insta-love/insta-trust.
The story has been engaging though a bit slow, but it REALLY picks up. When Rona and Daniel started rightening their marriage and falling in love, and I realized I still had almost 3 hours left of story, I knew I was hopefully in for something good.
I'm so sorry for the loss of the two guards, Patrick and especially Harold. He was so brave, and his last breath was to apologize to Rona for not being able to save her. I'm so proud of Rona for biting a whole in Warren's cheek- I almost cheered out loud, and I love even more that it festered and, without his "weakling" sister (as he called her), Jossalyn, and with his hatred and mistrust of all healers, he was going to die. Even though the bite lead to Harold's death, I bet he was proud of her too. His spirited, brave, lady for the clan. When Warren attacked Rona, nearly beating her to death, I couldn't breathe. The whole time, I remembered Meredith and I hoped she was able to see the whole thing- I hoped she could report Rona's bravery, Harold's last words. She did make it back to the castle to tell them Rona was taken, but she didn't have all of the details, never having seen Warren or his coat of arms before.
Daniel's rage, his brothers having to hold him down- I found that I couldn't breathe again. I understand the logic in having a well formed plan and not running off half cocked, but I definitely understand the impulse.
When they got to the castle to only 1 guard, I just knewwwww they were going to launch an attack on The Bruce's family castle. I'm so proud of Rona. Her last words to Warren were a reminder that he was bested by a Scots woman. I love it.
Mauri telling Rona to "Fly little Falcon" squeezed my heart! I love that Rona went to find the Bruce. I totally knew the suspicious guard she found was Finn, but I wasn't suspecting Ansel. I'm glad he's there, though. I love when all of the threads come together. I love that Angus appeared again, with his love of animals. He's one of my very favorites. I hope he gets his own story. Will too, the Sinclair's younger cousin. His relationship with Daniel was so sweet.
The Bruce giving Mauri, Ian and Rona permission to fly their birds was the perfect ending. I'll miss the Sinclairs as I move on to the Highland Bodyguard Series.

Neither main character it likeable. He’s completely unlikable for the 1sr half and doesn’t get that much better. Although she does have a few likeable moments gives into him ridiculously easy and acts like a spoilt child a lot of the time.
There were elements (quite a few to be honest) which I felt like I had read before, to the point where I did wonder if I had read it before.
There’s a scene where she is punched in the stomach by the villain to rid her of a possible child she may carry. Just felt out of place, over the top and unnecessary. I mean the whole kidnapping scene doesn’t flow with the rest of the book either
It’s not that I didn’t like it, it’s just that I got to a point at around the 50% mark were I felt things progressed too fast with the main characters. There wasn’t a lot of tension or development between the two main characters and it seemed they resolved a lot of their issues pretty quickly that I got a bit bored.
I actually like this authors writing style and many of her other books and characters. These ones though weren’t my favourite.
It started off well but fell flat for me somewhere in the middle.
I started the series and I could not put it down. Other people will tell you the story. I could not tell the story as well is this author. I will tell you about the fabulously strong characters she has developed. I want all of them to have their own story. And the emotions oh my gosh. From smiling to almost in tears. From sunshine to Anger. And the sex. Toe curling sex. Not to be missed.
Daniel was the third son of Sinclair. He was old by Robert the Bruce to marry Rona Kennedy. Then he had to protect the castle there, for it belonged to Robert the Bruce. He and his father built it. At first Daniel and Rona did not trust each other, they did not get along. Then things changed. Along came fights from the English enemy Rafe Warren. You need to read this good story.
Concerned about shifting loyalties along the borderlands, Robert the Bruce orders Daniel Sinclair to secure his ancestral keep in Scotland's Lowlands and seal an alliance with its current steward by wedding his daughter, Rona Kennedy. At first, Daniel faces his impending marriage with reluctance, but he is resolved to do his duty by his King. However, Daniel quickly realizes that Rona's fiery spirit, intelligence and beauty are all he could want in a wife, but because the King doubted her father's loyalty, Daniel is hesitant to trust her with political and security matters. Though Rona is attracted to Daniel as well, she has secrets of her own she feels she must protect. Will their secrets keep them from having the true marriage they both desire? Will they learn to trust each other with their lives before the war reaches them?
Highlander's Reckoning is a great read and a fitting end for a wonderful Scottish historical trilogy. As is typical of the other books in the series, the characters are well developed, with a strong, but caring man and a fiery, independent woman--both of whom must learn to open their hearts and trust one another. This story features lots of action, and while some events require quite a bit of suspension of belief, the excitement and suspense of the plot is enough to carry the book. Fans of Emma Prince will not be disappointed.
‘Highlander’s Reckoning,’ was a fitting end to The Sinclair Brothers trilogy! This book had it all... love, passion, betrayal, and an epic battle. All the brilliantly written Sinclair Brothers, along with their fiercely brave wives, and Bruce the King with his Band of warriors. I loved it!
What an amazing way to end a series a beautiful story. And I loved it from beginning to the end.. I love how Emma included many of the previous characters.. I loved that she shared each of their love story and still kept these two characters alive at the same time.. What a great series I look forward to more stories from this author
I came upon this, by accident. I haven't read the previous two books, but after reading this one, I will give them a try. Smart characters, good action, and of course some good steam. :)
