Debunking The Myths of Forgive-And-Forget

Rate this book
“Forgive-and-forget” slaps a band-aid over a gaping wound and tells us to keep on limping. Real forgiveness, on the other hand, invites us to remove the bandages, examine the wound, and open ourselves up to a restorative process. What gives us the courage to undertake such a difficult, potentially painful procedure? We find the bravery to practice true, soul-deep forgiveness in the context of a Love that holds us safe, no matter what. In the process of real forgiveness, we’ll learn what wise trust looks like. We’ll be able to choose reconciliation or release in relationships. Most of all, we’ll turn toward healing. Real forgiveness can be messy and hard. But in the end, it brings the kind of rest to our souls that no easy answer can offer. For that reason, we debunk the myths and dig in.

The title made me a little leery but this was so good. A look at Biblical forgiveness and restoration; great explainations and food for thought.

A realistic look at Forgiveness!

As the title implies, she makes an excellent effort to try to “debunk” how we often look at this matter of forgiveness. She really emphasizes the matter of trust in relation to it being lost, and regained and the truth that it is possible to rebuild but it takes TIME! She has an excellent way of revealing that God has to be involved in the healing for it to ever take place. Also, she brings out the reality very well, that relationships can be altered significantly or can not be restored. She debunks many “fairy tales” we often turn to in the matter of forgiveness. The book is short, but powerful!

Another good book by Kay Bruner. This was small and simple, profoundly practical and very needed especially for people who were spiritually abused.

This is a book on forgiveness that every Christian should read. Forgiveness and "boundaries" go hand in hand and we miss so much wisdom in trying to separate them!
