"Uryuu... You'll eventually learn what your father cares about the most. When you find out what you truly want to protect... and if you still wish to walk the path of a Quincy... you will face a battle you cannot avoid. A battle beyond your abilities. A time will come when you will have to sacrifice yourself. When it comes, use this."

I'm sorry master. I still don't understand my father. I'm not even sure what I want to protect... But I think I at least know what I won't allow.

In Bleach Volume 15 we got to the conclusion of the Ishida vs Mayuri fight. Sadly, despite a win, there was no reason for Ishida to celebrate. He got some kind of revenge, but there is no relief and no joy. Nothing will bring the 2,661 Quincies (that Mayuri experimented on) back. And nothing will bring his grandfather back.

We got a flashback of a little Ishida talking with both his father and his grandfather. The two adults, despite being a family, couldn't be more different. The father doesn't want anything to do with a legacy of the Quincy, while the grandfather actively worked as a Quincy and made Uryuu his student. This difference made the little Uryuu stand in between his father and his grandfather.

"But... I can see them! The Hollows and the people they attack. The Soul Reapers can't handle it by themselves, I've seen it with my own eyes! Why... Dad must be able to see those things, too. So how...? How can he ignore them? Master, I want to be strong! I want to be a powerful Quincy and protect everyone from that Hollows! Then maybe Dad will think Quincies are worth something."

Ishida being the rational one in the team while Ichigo being the hothead who attacks first and asks questions later, seem like they are like a fire and water. But deep in their hearts they are the same. They both have a great need to become strong, but not just for the sake of being powerful, but because of the need to protect others. (And this is the same guy who manipulated Ichigo into a Soul Reaper vs Quincy battle if who will kill more Hollows. Incredible.) And they both are ready for a sacrifice if they think it's needed.

"Only one of them is the real me. I can only be defeated by that sword. If you want me to submit, find it before I kill you!" [Zangetsu]

Ichigo, after a tough fight against Zaraki and a nearly death experience against Byakuya, is now training to become stronger and achieve Bankai. His goal is to find the right sword - to find Zangetsu, before three days will pass. But Zangetsu cannot help him. He's the one that Ichigo needs to defeat now. Everyone's, including Ichigo's, lives are on the line. Either Ichigo succeeds and saves everyone, or he will fail and everyone are doomed. Volume 15 covers Day 1 of the training.

While Ichigo is deep in the battle against Zangetsu, Ishida, Ganju and Chad reunite in the Soul Reaper prison. They all are chained and all they can do now is wait for Ichigo, Orihime or Yoruichi to arrive. We know that Ichigo and Yoruichi cannot help them now, but what about Orihime? Well, it seems like she's chilling out with... Zaraki's Squad. How are they friends? Will it play into Ichigo's team favor somehow? We also came back to the murder mystery case. Who is the real murderer? What's Gin's goal? We will see in the next volume! ;)

Some things I need to talk about

~ RIP 2,661 Quincies and Grandpa Ishida [*]
~ Did I say that Mayuri is disgusting? Because he's DISGUSTING!
~ despite Papa Ishida sounding very cold and harsh, I think there is some truth in his words. We do need to focus on the living, not the dead ones. We need to focus on life, not death.
~ little Ishida's tear-streaked face was something I had a hard time going through, poor baby!
~ we saw the first Bankai! (Mayuri's, but still)
~ Nemu is an angel. Why she's still standing on Mayuri's side is truly beyond my understanding. Girl, you deserve much better! Set yourself free!
~ Ishida had the worst luck to run into Tousen after his battle against Mayuri.
~ Kira's devastated face, after his fight against Hinamori, killed me. One image in the manga was much more impactful than the image shown in the anime.
~ Gin finally looked like a bad guy!
~ Kenpachi looked like a titan sitting opposite to Orihime! I never realized how big he is!
~ we got a little Matsumoto/Gin flashback!! 🥰
~ Urahara's backstory got revealed!
~ Hinamori choosing to attack Hitsugaya instead of Gin is something I will never ever understand. I know that she got Aizen's letter where he is outing Hitsugaya as the culprit, but c'mon, how the hell could she think that Hitsugaya, her best friend since childhood, could be a murderer?! There was no one who knew Hitsugaya better than her! Her actions in the Soul Society arc is something that's pissed me off tremendously when I first saw the anime and it's pissing me off to this day!
~ the Kira/Renji/Hinamori Untold Story addition in this volume is something I didn't expect to see here, but I welcomed it with open arms. What an underrated trio.
~ I still can't get over the way Hisagi is looking in the manga. How are everyone looking better while he's looking worse?? :( Also, also, I have to say that, in my opinion, Hisagi is one of the characters that had a huge potential, but got totally wasted through the story. How is he labeled as a genius (like Hitsugaya and Kaien), but we barely see him in action? I wished for him to have more screen time in the anime and I feel the same now with the manga.

Uryū’s fight against the 12th Captain was amazing! I loved getting more of a glimpse into his childhood training as a Quincy, and can confidently say he’s one of my favourite characters in Bleach. Plus, mr. silly himself (Ganju) is okay!! I can live in peace.

Uryū’s fight with Mayuri Kurotsuchi was amazing! Hopefully he finds a way to regain what he lost. Also while Ichigo continues his bankai training, there’s fighting amongst the 13 Court Guard Squads. Who is the real enemy?

On one hand, I have to commend Kubo for giving even the minor characters a bit of backstory and story relevance. There's a lot of balls for him to juggle and he mostly keeps them all up in the air.

On the other hand, it just takes us another step away from the characters and stories we came here for and relate to and want to see things develop to. With each new character developed, Chad and Orihime - to say nothing of Tatsuki and the other schoolmates - are increasingly sidelined. Some of their own plotlines will never be resolved, and that's a shame.

Quincy time motherfucker!

This is pretty badass to watch the quincy fight with him super overpowered. This volume starts with a bang and it's a fantastic one sided fight that never lets up. Second half is more of Ichigo training. That's okay, not the best, but it's still solid. On top of that we get some funny moments with our favorite cat lady. Oh and it sets up two soul reapers about to go head to head, setting up the next volume nicely. A 3.5 out of 5.

The plot thickens as the mystery behind the murder within the Soul Society gets more complicated every second. The story arc also explores several new flashback sequences, presents brand-new reunions, and teases more training progression for Ichigo.

After all the epic battles, volumes like these are what's needed to recuperate both for the reader and for the characters!

Synopsis: Ichigo Kurosaki sees ghosts, and fights...a lot. All of this is pretty normal for Ichigo, but then he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami (Death God) and member of the mysterious Soul Society. When a Hollow, an evil spirit, attacks Ichigo and his family, Rukia attempts to defeat the Hollow, but is wounded. To help him save his family, she lends Ichigo some of her powers, but something goes wrong, and Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy. Ichigo becomes a temporary Shinigami, and works with Rukia to handle the hunting of hollows until Rukia can recover. At least, that was the plan...

Before I picked up the manga, I saw the first four episodes of the anime at Stellarcon '06. It was a fansub (this was before it was airing on Adult Swim), so the translation wasn't great, but I fell in love with the characters and mythology of the series. I immediately started picking up the manga and planning a costume for Ichigo. A few months later, I cosplayed Ichigo at Heroescon, had read all of the manga that had been translated, and watched as much of the anime as I could get my hands on.

So, what's the big deal, right? I think it comes down to the characters. There are dozens of of them, and the writer Tite Kubo takes the time to give them all detailed backgrounds and relationships. I'm 19 volumes in, and while there's plenty of action, it's the character development I'm hooked to.

In the first 19 volumes, there are three main groups of characters, humans, the Shingami, and the Quincies. When humans die, their souls become Wholes or Hollows. Wholes are normal spirits, but the spirits that become Hollows are corrupted souls that must feed on the souls of the living (kind of like spiritual vampires). The Shinigami release Wholes and help them cross over to the Soul Society (the spirit world), and cleanse the Hollows so that they can cross over as well. They do so using big ass swords called zanpakutō.

The Quincies use bows made of spiritual energy in the form of bows to hunt Hollows, similarly to the Shinigami. However, unlike the Shingami, who purify the souls of the Hollows preserving the balance of souls between the two world, the Quincies destroy them. This endangers the balance of the world, and as a result the two groups went to war. The Shinigami won, and there is now only one Quincy left, Uryū Ishida. Despite his hatred of Shinigami, Uryū eventually becomes friends Ichigo, and even travels to the Soul Society with him.

This only scratches at the surface of the series. I have only seen ~50 episodes of the anime, but what I have seen follows the manga very closely. I highly recommend checking out the series, it's fun, interesting, and has some great cosplay opportunities.

I just keep practicing saying goodbye to you

This volume was chef's kiss. The battle between Uryū and the 12th caption was spectacular and we are reunited with Chad! And Ganju turned out to be okay which definitely made me happy.

Ichigo just completed his first day of Bankai training and that last scene with Hinamori and Hitsugaya had my jaw on the floor. Definitely need to get to the next volume ASAP.

Ichigos training continues with Zangetsu and we learn more about Bankai and what it exactly is, the training is quite brutal and you can see Ichigo use so many swords to fight Zangetsu but he keeps getting an upper hand on him, we learn about who previously Urahara was and see a good fight between Ishida and Mayuri and then he meets up with his other friends. Now, Inoue is with Kenpachi and seems more interesting stuff might happen there. Good volume with great art, questions answered but more questions created and Ichigo's quest to become a great Shingiami begins!

Boring "need more training!" filler. Also, everyone on the same side seems to want to kill each other. Wonderous how the Soul Society lasted thousands of years when everyone's first instinct seems to be to kill someone.

Uruyu bested Miyuri and sacrificed his Quincy powers. It was pretty epic. Uruyu is kinda hot lol
Miyuris AC gave him the poison antidote and he went to try and get Rukia.
Unfortunately he bumped into 9th captain who I don’t think we’ve been introduced to by name properly. He knocks him out.
Yuruichi is training Ichigo to perform bankai.
Renji and Momo escape jail. Izuru is having a mild mental breakdown in jail and then Ichimaru shows up and breaks him out of jail.
In fourth company we find out that Hanataro is actually 7th seat of the company and a team leader. He is to be punished.
Uruyu wakes up in jail but healed. Genju is also there, as well as Chad, Orehime, Ikkaku and Yumichika, and Kenpachi. All injured but in jail haha. They all seem to love Orihime so that’s sweet. Yumichika is jealous of how pretty Orehime is though. They decide to stay there and wait for Ichigo while they heal. I do appreciate Tite Kubo knew these kids would be captured lol.

Ichigo finishes his first day of training and Yuruichi tells him that Urahara used to be a soul reaper, captain of 12th and founder of the research division.

Hitsugaya and Rangiku are warned about the break out at the jail and he immediately runs to find Ichimaru. He says he will kill him before Momo can show up and draws his sword. Momo does show up though and is ready to try and fight Ichimaru.

The manga ends

Short story following the characters at soul reaper academy.
Momo, Izuru and Renji were friends. Rukia was kind of left out as she didn’t have grades as high as Renji. They go on a field trip and the three of them are teamed up and get attacked by a mass of hollows. We are introduced to assistant captain of 9 (he isn’t at this point) but he’s very well known. The soul reaper students are told to run away but momo won’t and so Izuru and Renji also help him.
Aizen and his assistant captain (Ichimaru) show up and save them. The end.

There’s a small side comic about Kon being befriended by local kids to play football with them.

Bleach, Vol. 15 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next seven chapters (124–130) of the on-going manga series and the bonus story "Prelude for the Straying Stars".

Uryū Ishida uses the forbidden Quincy technique Ransōtengai to overcome the effects Mayuri Kurotsuchi's zanpakutō and defeats him, receiving the antidote of his opponent's poison from Mayuri's lieutenant Nemu Kurotsuchi. However, Uryū is quickly defeated by Squad Nine Captain Kaname Tōsen and incarcerated.

Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki faces a life and death training regiment against Zangetsu to obtain the ability to use Bankai, Kenpachi Zaraki helps Orihime Inoue free her friends so he can find Ichigo and fight him again.

At the same time, having got her hands on Sōsuke Aizen's letter, Momo Hinamori escapes confinement and makes her way to where Tōshirō Hitsugaya confronts Gin Ichimaru over Aizen's murder after he releases Izuru Kira. Once there, Momo points her zanpakutō at Hitsugaya and accuses him of killing Aizen.

This tankobon is written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. The incursion into the Seireitei to save Rukia Kuchiki continues. It is split up into three narratives: the first where Uryū Ishida battles the Soul Reapers, but ultimately ends incarcerated. Another has Kenpachi Zaraki helping Orihime Inoue save her friends and find Ichigo Kurosaki, so he could fight him again. Finally, Ichigo continues his dangerous training in order for him to use his Bankai.

All in all, Bleach, Vol. 15 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

Okay Uryu is definitely a contender for top husbando position. The depictions of his fighting and shit OOF. SURELY there'll be a magical plot loop hole where he retains his powers? Hello? Please!!!!!

I hope Nemu gets a future plot ting, I feel she'll pop off and get revenge on her maker. It's only right. And Kisuke and Yoriuchi definitely have a ting, bro you can't look at that one panel on p 136 and tell me they don't. I'd ship.

Can we get more Shuhei, he was a zaddy, nothing says zaddy more than having a 69 tattoo on your face lmao.
