This book is great, very easy to follow. I have tried several of the different flowers, I don't have everything needed to do all the flowers yet, but I can't wait to try the rest!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher to review. The gushing introduction from Rosie O'Donnell is cute and conveys her admiration for the skill and accomplishments of the author, Bobby Pearce. There is a second introduction from the author that explains how his Grandmother taught him to make realistic looking paper flowers when he was a child. The rest of the book explains how to make the flowers using easily obtainable materials and tools and basic paper crafting skills.
A materials list, detailed instructions, and photographs of the project in progress and the finished flower are provided for each of the 35 flowers in tindividual leaves and petals that make up each flower. Quite a variety of flower types are depicted including holiday flowers like Easter Lilies and Poinsettias, garden flowers like Daffodils and Sweat Peas, and flowers that are regional like California Poppy and Bird of Paradise. Information is provided to create realistic centers and to add texture to many of the flowers. I am impressed with the Iris and Anthurium, but not with the Sunflower center.
This would be a perfect book for a library or personal collection. The instructions are clear enough and the materials and tools basic enough that older children could succeshe book. Photographs of projects created with the finished flowers are provided as well. In the back of the book are pages of patterns for the sfully make most of the flowers. It would be useful for someone who wants to create paper flowers for bouquets, centerpieces, or wedding decorations. I think it would also be useful for fiber artists. The templates and assembly instructions could be easily adapted to the creation of stumpwork, needlefelting, or fabric flowers.
This is a really great crafting book if you are ready to make some paper flowers. He takes you through step by steps and gives you all of the patterns. It makes for some great ideas! Also is was a lovely book to look at.
