Lightning

Rate this book
“He shoots and he scores! Lightning Logan strikes again.”

That was me, Lightning Logan Jackson, because I was as fast as lightning on the ice. Playing in the NHL and for the New York Rangers had been my dream since I was six years old when my dad took me to my first game. Hockey was my life. It consumed me. It was the one thing in life that I could commit to. Relationships were a no. Sex with beautiful women and no strings attached were a yes. I was a bachelor—happy and living the dream. Then the accident happened and the doctors told me I’d never play hockey again. My life went to shit in the blink of an eye. All hope and the will to live was gone: until Brooke Alexander walked into my life.

I was hired to help Logan Jackson get back on the ice. I had rules. Rules he needed to follow if he was going to play hockey again. He was stubborn, defiant and nothing I couldn’t handle. Rehabilitation was going to be difficult and pure hell. I had to break him in order to help him. I knew what it was like to have your dreams taken away and I was determined to give him his dream back, even if it meant losing him.

I'm surprised I even made it past 5%.

Logan, the "H" is kind douchebag. A childish douchebag.

I don't think I've been this disgusted by a H in a while. The banter between him and his boys was ludicrous. Nauseating.

Let me share some samples:

"Take off your bra and show me your tits."
And the same broad he so nicely asked for a view replied after taking off his pants: "Nice dick."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Then this "sexy" (not) imagery: Pulling a condom from my wallet, I slipped it on and crammed myself inside of her.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Then when he tries to steer his best friend to lay off going out for one night and come have pizza and beer with him back at his place, his best friend responds: "Sure. Sounds good, but I was hoping to get laid tonight."

Then after a win, our "H" communicated: "Come on; let's get out of here, go get drunk, and find some hot chicks to fuck. My dick is screaming for a little attention."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Oh and when an accident happens,

Then, the nightmare that he is... what really made me just throw my hands up: "I DON'T CARE IF IT'S NOT TIME YET! (for his pain meds) YOU BETTER GET ME MY FUCKING PILL OR ELSE, YOU STUPID BITCH!"

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There was NOTHING even remotely alluring to make me want to go on. This was really a joke (sorry!). Maybe the douche changes - who knows?

And for the brief like 3 seconds we meet the "h", I already judged her and didn't like her because to think that there was any kind of HEA to this story made me sick to my stomach.

I don't mind the arrogant "H". I don't mind the manwhore "H" with good reason. But for you to be a complete, disrespectful, mind-numbing, childish d*ckwad - all in the first 15% of the book?

No gracias!!!!!!

¡ABANDONOOOOOO!
FALLOS A EXPONER:
Fallo #1. ¿estáis intentando volverme loca a propósito?
Fallo #2.
Fallo #3. El accidente de Brooke. A ver...

This was surprisingly a light read even though from the blurb I expected it to be a lot more depressing. If you like sports romance books, believe in alternative medicine and miracles, than this is a book for you.

It is rare that I like more the heroine than the hero but that happened here :)
"You’re afraid people won’t accept you anymore because you can’t play hockey. But what you don’t seem to understand is that people won’t forget you. This accident changes nothing. It doesn’t the change the man you are inside; the person you were before you played hockey. It’s time to get back out in the world, Logan."

“Am I a bunch of bullshit? Modern medicine failed me when I was fourteen years old. Modern medicine gave up on me. Yet here I stand today, in front of all of you, when I was never supposed to get out of a wheelchair. So you can take your false hope and shove it up your ass.”

While reading I thought the whole time that this would be a good book for a movie :D

So I picked this book up after reading a darker romance and a book that had cheating in it... so I really was looking for a sweet and easy romance. Something to shake off the last reads and allow me to hit a reset button.

Sadly, this was not the book to do that. I found myself wanting to put it down within the first 5% I pushed through, I did see it through to the end, but that was more out of stubborn will than anything else. I have loved prior books from this author, but something just felt off about this whole book.

A few examples:

I am not an overly picky reader. But this was just missing that ‘draw you into the story’ feel. I felt like a lot of the story was just bullet points. The meat of the story was just missing. Even when we hit the emotional parts of his accident, the loss of his ability to play hockey... the idea of ending it all – none of those parts really had any feeling to them.

But I did finish the book. I did want to see if the cocky (who really came across as an asshole more than anything else) could be sweet. And I do love an asshole character – but I need them to be charismatic. Cocky and confident is fine, but I really need to see that as endearing and not off putting and with Logan, so much of him was just crass than anything else.

This one just didn’t work for me at all.

I loved loved loved this book!!!! this author needs to write more books about hockey players because she checked it to the board!!! I loved this story from cover to cover and totally recommend it!! yes its not your typical love story where everything goes smoothly, but the slow build up makes it worth it!!!

4 STARS!! This book definitely got me out of a book funk. This couple was hilarious when they first met each other. Then it just got better. I am surprised Owen or Brandon the Brothers of Logan don’t have their own book.

I listen to/read 3-4 books per week. They range in quality from wonderful to boring/OTT ridiculous, but most are just average, interesting, enjoyable stories. I’ve been a goodreads member for years, but this is the first time I’ve written a review. That should tell you a little something about how strongly this book affected me. It was AWFUL. The premise didn’t bother me at all (selfish man-whore of a hockey hunk meets the most amazing woman ever, yadda yadda yadda), and I was actually sort of enjoying the story until the Welcome Back Dinner when they returned from California. That’s when the story started to go south and just kept spiraling from there. It seriously never got better.

Maybe the writer gave up about two-thirds of the way through and let her teenage daughter finish it for her? Just awful.

This was such a surprising and refreshing read that I enjoyed from the first to the last page. And coming from me - a person normally not into sports novels - that stands for something.

I loved the developing relationship and the intriguing plotspin that I so did not see coming.

Therefore I would love to recommend this book to you ... it just about missed the 5 stars with me..

Logan necesitaba una Brooke en su vida. Fin.

Please Sandi book that, you think?

Lots of reviews on the arrogant and angry H… he was not likable for a good part of the opening… and him suddenly loving the h seemed implausible only because he’d been so utterly self-absorbed.

In some ways, the h was almost flimsy in character development. Hard to pinpoint what worked or didn’t about her.

They both had a lot of “I’m pissed” moments.

Others covered a lot of valid points so just a few things…

The story had some good moments, but it also had some moments that were just unbelievable or didn’t make sense.

For example, she researched the accident Logan was in, but later he says he misses Tommy, and she says, Who is Tommy? She seriously was unable to recall the name of his teammate killed in the traumatic accident he was recovering from?

Another instance was toward the end in the final playoff hockey game. The Blackhawks are in the lead by one. Logan scores for the Rangers. The buzzer sounds. Suddenly everyone is celebrating because the Rangers won. How? If they were down by one, it would be tied, not with the Rangers winning… right?! I mean, that seems like a big flaw in a book based on hockey.

That kind of stuff undermines the rest of the story. I am enjoying reading my way through Sandi Lynn books but wish she had better copy editing and proofreading.

I’ve read better books by her, but this still held your interest and moved along quickly enough.

Logan is living his dream at being a professional hockey player. He has it all. Fame. Girls. You name it. He has it. That is until an accident takes away his dream and now he has to learn how to fight back to get his dream again. Brooke knows what it’s like to start over and she is the perfect person to help him get where he needs to go.

Sandi Lynn is a great author at creating characters that you want to root for. And this is no exception. Logan from the start (yeah he’s a jerk a good 20% of the beginning) but he slowly starts to change to be a better man for himself and his family. I loved seeing his transformation from angry person to being a better version of himself.

Brooke is sassy, take no nonsense from Logan and I love that when the female characters don’t just give in to whatever the male wants and she sticks up for herself. Sure there were times when Logan probably shot her down, but it was on her terms.

I really enjoyed this quick read (probably 1-2 sittings) and highly recommended if you are in between books.

Audiobook.

Loved it!! Narrarators were great and story flowed.

Definite read again.

Story of Logan and Brooke.

Logan is a star ice hockey player who gets into a car accident which killers his best friend.

Logan is grieving and resistant to start walking again.

His brother was told about Brooke, an ice figure scater who was injured after a crash and told she’d never walk again. Tho, with the help of woo, who uses ancient Chinese medicine to recover she walked again. Brooke is a physio so Brandon (L brother) asked for Brooke’s help.

She bowled into L life like a storm and got him back on the rink.

A fantastic read and loved it

Worth reading.

Very enjoyable book. I love Logan, I love him a lot, despite him being so angry for most of the book, he’s a good man. I like how the author developed the story to show readers why Logan so angry. After a drastic life changing accident, Logan doesn’t see his life the way he planned. Brooke comes in as his physical therapist and changes Logan’s life for the better. With hard work, focus, support from the love of his life, his family, his coach and teammates Logan comes back with a vengeance and he’s even better than before the accident. Sometimes, on a detour life can be amazing and worth living.

from a romance pov it was too insta-lovey for me, but i mainly have thoughts on the discussions of injury/disability here. the whole 'ancient chinese secret' vibe of brooke's healing feels orientalist and just weird especially bc she won't talk about what any of it is in any kind of detail. i was honestly waiting for her to admit the whole thing was a placebo.
i also understand that characters are flawed and he's in a traumatic headspace but the hero literally thinks living with a disability is worse than death. i like to think this would change as the book progresses but frankly i can't be sure he'll ever even confront/challenge that thinking bc the story is pushing this idea that being disabled/injured/paralyzed is something you can overcome if you're just ~strong enough~ (gag).
i totally agree that western medicine and doctors are so quick to write people off and ignore their situations in favor of relying on averages and what "should" be happening to their body, but the author essentially presents us with a fully able-bodied person (brooke) as pseudo disability representation (she was told she'd never walk again and now just does? despite a spinal injury? that led to paralysis?). focusing the story on two able-bodied people 'experiencing' and 'overcoming' disability instead of making them actually disabled people falling in love misses a great opportunity for diverse romantic representation and a way more believable story.
arguably i'm looking for a story this book was never going to give me, but i resent that they present his injury as incurable until love and chinese herbs magically make him better, when it could easily be about him recovering from a bad injury that doesn't try to frame him as doing the impossible bc that furthers a stigma against people with permanent disabilities who cannot simply become able-bodied at will.

I really enjoyed this light read, at first, I did not like Logan and his brothers, and how they viewed women. How he spoke about fucking them and throwing them out in the morning! And he got even worse after the accident, verbally abusing his nurses. Until Brooke showed up to help him, she didn't take his shit and made him work to get back on the ice. Trying to make him believe in himself she did the only thing she knew would work, she made him mad by pretending she never cared for him. He used his anger and worked his ass off, won the championship, and got Brooke back.

No me agrado.

I thought this book would be about the game of Ice hockey but to my delight it was more about the player! Logan is that hockey player, when a disaster happens that's when Brooke appears in his life. It's a rocky relationship at the start but she's only interested in his health, or is she?
I read this booj in one sitting and I really enjoyed it.
