Call the wedding off and move in with her best friend Malakai until the world makes sense again. Malakai Daniels just moved back into town just in time to be Minah’s knight in shining armor and help her through this devastating blow. She’s always been there for him, and in turn he’s always been there for her. A kiss during a weak moment awakens feelings and urges that neither can control and only one wants to act on. Malakai is all in for taking their relationship further but constant road blocks from Minah hinder the progress. Can she let go of her fears and allow him in?
I'm just a girl in love with literature. My love affair with romance novels started with I was 13 and has flourished into an obsession. I've always been a writer. Even when I was a little girl, I always had a pen and a notebook poised to let something out. You Make Me Better is my first project that will be published and I am STOKED. My goal is to write stories surrounding positive black love, with a little humor tossed in.
“Kai, give me five minutes.” “What are you doing?” “About to masturbate.”
LMAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Minah and Malakai have been BFFs for most of their lives. These two are thick as thieves and they’re always there for each other no matter what. So, when Minah finds out her fiancé has been laying it low and spreading it wide with multiple women three months before the wedding, Malakai comes to the rescue and moves her into his home without question. A single inappropriate moment changes the trajectory of their relationship and, after 24 years of friendship, Minah and Kai start to see one another as something other than besties. Comfort becomes more than friendship, lines are crossed, and attraction has now entered the chat. One More Night may be eight years old but, this is probably the best friends to lovers book I’ve ever read. I just adored the relationship between Minah and Kai. Their long standing friendship was something to behold. One thing that stood out for me, was the pacing of this book and how organically and realistically the characters fell in love with each other. And, the sex scenes?!!!! Whew! Minah and Kai were nasty y’all. Just gon’ and gather your pearls because, they will definitely need to be clutched. As always, AshleyNicole delivered a story that’s sexy, hilarious, and entertaining.
I loved the family dynamic between Jo, Stewart, Sarah, Minah & Malakai…..I loved the way they looked out and took care of one another. The budding romantic relationship between Minah & Malakai was inevitable….these two were best friends for 24 years…and had taken to sleeping together and cuddling even before the romance began. Minah’s mother & ex-finance were trash and so was Malakai’s mother & brother….I didn’t understand why Malakai called Minah’s ex 2N….I don’t know if I missed something or not….But, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this group of friends/family.
When I first started One More Night, I was skeptical of Minah and Malakai's bond. They were simply too close to be best friends, but as I read on, I understood them better. I enjoyed the tale of Friends to Lovers and this one was done right. That inappropriate moment in the bed, in my opinion, altered their entire relationship. Once we had heartbreak and close proximity I knew Minah's heart belonged to Malakai before her ex-fiance. I liked how natural and genuine their relationship transitioned from partners to lovers. Minah had valid concerns, but they worked through them. I adored the friendships' familial dynamic. I'm curious about whoever Jo will be with, where Stewart and Sarah's story will finish.
AshleyNicole, the queen of friends to lovers. Minah and Kai were the ultimate BFFs. I mean, sleep in the same bed, cuddled up together, BFFs. Their friendship was so profound and deep. But after a night filled with emotions stemmed from a heartbreak, they shared a kiss. Lines are blurred, and feelings get involved. Their journey after that was tiring. Their whole will they, won't they exhausted me to no end. Well, it was mainly Minah, but I understood her apprehension. That was her BFF. She didn't want to mess it up. But they were perfect for each other, compatible in every way. Especially in the bedroom. I loved this so much. It was funny, it was sweet and there were times I was annoyed. But for the most part, funny and sweet. Although this book is old, I highly recommend it if you haven't read it. Especially if you're looking for a fun and feel-good read.
This book was Amazing! I'm a sucker for stories when best friends fall for each other, this story was well written and kept me laughing ...there was also a time or two when I could really feel the love these two had for one another ....good writing can do that to you.
This was my first read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a very well written friends to romance story, with lots of spice thrown in. I'll definitely be keeping a look out for her future releases!
Awesome story! I love the twists, turns and surprises as childhood best friends, Minah and Malakai journey through life battling betrayal, jealousy, and trifling family members as well as their growing attraction to one another.
5 stars for the dialogue. AshleyNicole wrote the African American vernacular perfectly. Otherwise, this was a non-story seeing as it was utterly predictable. YES, WE KNOW MINAH HAS A BIS ASS. YES, MALAKAI IS A FINE CHOCOLATE COVERED BROTHER. WE KNOW!!! We heard you the first dozen times, so, enough already with the repetition.
Utter dismay. That was my reaction to the arc of their relationship. Seeing they had been friends for 24 years, my expectation was to witness a progression that wasn't based entirely on sex or on how Minah could get her "nut" (black-speak for orgasm) on. And the mundane daily activities of Minah's job, etcetera...were not relevant to this story. The plot went on an unexpected tangent so excuse me while I unclutter my brain.
Utter boredom. That's how I felt reading, yet again, another stereotypical Black female/Black male relationship. The big ass thing. The oh-she-is-a-fine-sista thing. The oh-he's-so-hung thing. Arrrrghhhhh. Come on. Really? Also, proximity will engender lust, that is unless they are of a different sexual persuasion, so to have Mi and Kai living together was a major contributing factor to the inertia that was this book. At the point Mi moved in, I knew sex would follow and let's be honest... the sex scenes were boring...boring..boring. Arrgghhhh.
Utter disinterest. By having sex without defining the next step in their relationship, the author had lost a significant opportunity to escalate the sexual tension that hovered around them. Maybe having Kai in a relationship with another woman might have ratcheted up the tension. Or perhaps having Miles-the-fiance not be a cheating douchebag. But for the author to have all ducks aligned in their favor, was parochial.
That being said, there were some positives. First, I loved that Kai was not a baby daddy. Second, I loved that Mi was a college educated self-employed business woman (we need more of those) and I loved the group dynamic with their friends; lastly, I appreciate the author's effort in portraying the Black male as being responsible, hard-working, caring individuals. Overall, not my cup of tea but mostly because of the predictability and utter lack of character development.
Minah and Malakai have been best friends for most of their lives. Thicker than blood and tight as thieves, they are there for each other. So when the unthinkable happens to Minah, it is only right that Kai steps in to comfort her. But when comfort becomes more and lines of friendship and lovers get crossed, will these to find a happy medium or will one more night be it?
This is my first time reading a book by Ashley Nicole and I must say it won't be my last. As a very picky reader, I find it hard to give new authors a chance, especially in this era, but I'm glad I took a chance and read this book. It was a fast fun read for me that kept me throughly entertained: I found myself sneaking at the pages trying to read when I had other things to do. The pacing was accurate and I enjoyed the back and forth conflict between the main characters.
Minah and Malakai's relationship dynamics made this book; the first person dialogue was refreshing and natural with these two. The Ins and outs of friendship and love are two themes that can be seen throughout the entire book. Though a little predictable at times, their relatable personas made the book that more enjoyable to read. I loved their realness, almost as if I knew them from around the way as I read. Ohh did I mention they scorched these pages UP..chaleeeee burn em to pieces! Whew, fans self* I want a friend like Kai: two words Henny D! Lmaoooo (read it and you will get that insider)! The passion between Minah and Kai flowed well because I was able to feel what they were feeling as friends and lovers. So the sith or did a good job on detailing the relationships aspect in this book.
Lastly, I can't wait to hear more about Stewart and Jo..I'm hoping their stories will be next!
Either you Love a Friends-to-Lover story or you don't. Normally, I'm on the fence, yet I really liked this one. AshleyNicole has a way of adding all the ingredients you need to have you locked into her stories.
I Loved Minah. She seemed like such a great friend and overall great person. I was confused by her ex fiance cheating. That was super weird seeing that HE was the one with the problem in the bedroom in their relationship. I was glad that he messed up bc it left her wide open to her knight in shining Chocolate; her best friend Malakai, aka Kai. The easy going nature of their friendship was one you just had to get behind. They loved each other like old lovers. The way he held her down and vice versa was excellent.
Malakai was a self made man and he gave credit where it was due. He was supported by his best friend, Mi, her cousin Sarah, their grandmother aka Nana, and twin best friends Jo and Steward (Stew). These 5 became family, having a bond like no other and I couldn't get enough of it. I thought that Jo was going to take issue with Kai and Mi, yet he just wanted the best for his friends. His twin, Stew and Sarah's relationship was funny, yet I saw it coming.
The way the Kai allowed for his mother and blood older brother to disturb his life was heartbreaking. He really wanted them to support him and want Him, not his money, and I could feel his pain. He had Minah, Sarah, Jo and Stew, and I'm glad they had him. They truly were one big happy family.
I Love, Love, Loved this book and I honestly didn't think I'd like it as much as I did; that's what I get for doubting the skills of AshleyNicole. Now, I can't wait to read the next book.
3.5 Stars. A charming and sexy read, but...I wasn't necessarily sold on the relationship between the two main characters. While I love the "friends to lovers" story, their friendship crossed physical boundaries that were too hard to believe. I like a little bit more reality in my romance. I mean, the heroine Minah was engaged to another man and her "best friend" Kai not only slept in her bed, but he also slept with his head in her cleavage. Everything about their dynamic before they became lovers fell along the same absurd lines. It was very hard to connect to any of the characters in the novel because they were all a group of friends who understood their relationship and never questioned it.
Ironically, it was the intimacy between the characters when they became lovers that I really dug. She's just...fantastic at writing those scenes--the playful and the sexy. Also, they had some great backstory that I wish was explored more. They were a part of a group of friends who became orphans for one reason or another and were raised by their "nana." The relationship between Kai and his mother could have been exploited more and the one between Mi and her parents wasn't really explored at all. I read this author's other book and when she chooses to get real, she goes REAL. I hope to see more of that in the future.
I stumbled upon Slipped Up In Love and loved it. Soooo I went looking for more books by AshleyNicole... that led me to the One More Series. I love a good series because even though the next book moves on to another couple, you get to see how happy the previous couples are and how they are expanding their lives.
Kai and Mi's story was perfect for a 1st book in a series. I loved that they were friends to lovers. I love that there were real life issues thrown in with Mi's failed engagement and Kai's messed up family. Just over all a great book! Oh... the love scenes... GOOD GAWD they were HOT!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Absolutely 5 stars! I've already started reading about Joseph and Storee.. can't wait to finish and review.
4.7⭐️ One thing for sure, AshleyNicole can write a good Friends to Lovers trope!😍👏🏽👏🏽
💘Minah was set to get married very soon; and Kai, her bestie of 24 years, just moved back into town. When Minah finds out about her fiancés infidelity- she breaks it off. Kai consoles her, and she ends up making a move on him that changes everything, this sets the tone for their new love story. (They are also in a close knit friend group who are all pretty cool as well.)
🎯She’s scared to fall deep- but he’s not!😁😍
📓The author did a great job in exemplifying the main characters closeness/history as friends. I think it’s major to do so in creating a Friends to lovers relationship in a book.
Overall, the story paces quite well, and is a cute love story 💛
What another great emotional ride. I absolutely loved the relationship between not only Minah and Malakai (Kai), but also the relationship the whole group had - Sarah, Steward and Joseph. Of course, I could identify with Minah being in a loveless relationship with 2N (can't remember his name, HA!). But because of the support group she had with her "family" she was able to not totally collapse from the cancelled relationship.
The language used in this book was REAL. It's the way that my family and I talk to each other so it made the book so much more relateable. I bought her first book and can't wait to read Stewart's and Sarah's story!
I enjoyed the book, it was a little predictable but nevertheless still pretty entertaining nonetheless.
I assume that we will see more of Kai and Mi (which is actually "me") because the ending was kinda.. not really an ending but more like a stopping point.
So all in all... nice simple read.. I will say that I did love their friendship.. Did I think it was inappro... yep in the beginning, I get it now but when I first started reading I was like... ah okay.
First book I have read by this author, but it will not be the last. Loved the closest of Malikai, Minah, Sarah, Stewart and Joseph. Sometimes you do not have to be blood related to be family. These five were family, they had always been there for each other. So glad that Ki and Mi finally admitted that they loved each other as more than friends. Just purchased Book 2, but because it is so late I will hopefully start it tomorrow
Wow, I really enjoyed reading Minah & Malakai's story. Sometimes you just want to read a sweet love story without some major drama happening. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of drama that will have you shaking your head and saying "say what now"!! Ashley Nicole is an awesome writer and I'm looking forward to the next installment to the series.
This is my first book by Ashley Nicole. It is amazing. Everything about this book was great from beginning to the end. Mi and Kai were a perfect fit. The other characters helped to make the story. Will Sarah and Stew have a story? I loved this book.
I've read this book four or five times and can't believe I have never left a review. This is book that made me fall in love with Ashley Nicole. I've read every one of her books. If you've never read her work, you are truly missing out. You have got to meet Kai and Minah, and the crew!
One more night was very Funny and very real-life like. I loved the dynamics of friends being family. Hey, sometimes blood Is Not family. Ijs. Minah and Kai bestfriend to lovers. The way love should be. AshleyNicole great job. Some typos...But not enough to kill the story. #typosBeDamnThisAGoodStory. A recommend read.
I couldn't get past the fact that these two grown ass best friends (m/f) called each other boo and baby and would sometimes sleep in the same bed, all boo'd up. No wonder her engagement didn't work out. There's no way my man would be okay with me being that close to my male best friend. nope. no way. not my cuppa. Too bad cause I love "friends to lovers" stories.
Fabulous!! This book is the bizness!! Ms AshleyNicole did it! This is my first time reading her work and I am hooked!
Minah, Malakai and the rest of their friends have formed a family amongst each other. I was so touched by the underlying story within the story of Minah and Kai.
Ashley Nicole just knows how to make love ties between characters that you can't get enough of! Ooooh that fine behind Kai and that too lovable Minah...their love is so complete. I'd definitely love too read more of these two.
I loved me some Malakai. He was a true platonic friend, but when things changed between him and Minah....the story just got even better. I can't read to more from this author, I've already her other book and loved that also.
A life long love realized, this story of best-friends turned lovers is not new but in this case it was extremely well told. The series as a whole is very exciting! I dare you to start reading and try to put any of the books down, impossible!!
Malakai is crass and unkind to women...except his best friend, with whom he'll end up. I am increasingly disenchanted with the reformed rake trope. Hearing about his careless promiscuity isn't appealing.
These friends were too close, and in tune with each other to not fall in love. They have been besties forever, and the chemistry has always been there, just hidden. So fun with the back and forth, until they let themselves fall. Great friends to lovers story!
