Tempting #3

Provocative

Rate this book
Coming home to a quiet, dark house.
Meals by myself, because she was already done.
Excuses and apologies, they were never enough.
But even with that, when I touched her—when she arched under me and pulled me deeper— we couldn’t get back to where we needed to be.
Where we used to be.
It was all frustration.
Loneliness.
Loss.

Because even though she was no longer my student, the chemistry was always there.
Adele and I loved each other.
We thought we were unshakeable.

But love isn’t always enough.

It wasn’t enough when I constantly disappointed her.
It wasn’t enough when loss cleaved us in two.
And when she left me, love was not enough.

She didn’t know yet that I’d never stop fighting for her.
But she would.

**Author’s note- Let’s be real clear that this is BOOK TWO of a duet, and you’re going to want to read Tempting before you read this one. Adele and Nathan started their story in that book, and you’ll get the same sex, fighting, and cursing that you did in the first. But if you want it to make sense, read Tempting first. If any of that offends you, please avoid them both.**

It's not a secret that I'm in love with Alex Lucian's writing. I find it more than addicting, to me it's as close to perfection as you can get. I love the way this author tells a story. I'm hooked by it. The depth of feels, the sensuality and heat, the way his words weave together to create the most vivid and intoxicating scenes, it's magic. I could read these books over and over and over again. I just love them.

That said, I need to be honest. I had been dreading the moment I would have to read Provocative. Now let me explain! You see, I loved Tempting. It was my favorite read of 2015. BRILLIANT, SEXY, JAW DROPPING. The best Student Teacher romance I've read since the Gabriel's Inferno trilogy by Sylvain Reynard. Tempting pushed all my buttons, it thrilled and hurt me as a reader and when I got done reading that book, I was practically vibrating with energy from the story. It was everything. And to me, Tempting felt complete. The story itself felt whole. I was truly happy where Nathan and Adele left off. And I felt as though I had closure. Sure, I had a question or two about Elias, but nothing that a novella or an Elias book couldn't answer. So simply put, I didn't need more of Nathan and Adele's story. And I was very concerned that Provocative would RUIN my Tempting buzz.

Now I know that that sounds crazy, but there have been series where the sequels have killed my feelings for the first book. It's really has happened. Moments where the author was trying too hard to keep the story going. I had no idea what more these two characters could go through. In Tempting they went through A LOT.

A FUCKING LOTTTTTTTTTTTT!

And here we were again, another trip down angst lane. I was scared. So, when I got Provocative on my Kindle, I sat on it. And sitting on an Alex Lucian book, without diving in right away, is akin to torture. Finally, after several days, I couldn't hold off anymore. I knew I needed to read it, but most importantly I was ready to see what we were going to get.

I sat down and from the first words I was swept up in the story. All those feels I had for the characters returned with a fiery vengeance. I read Provocative in ONE SITTING. I could feel my heart slamming against my chest in an array of emotions--excitement, happiness, unease. If I thought I couldn't love Adele and Nathan any more than I already did, I was wrong! So wrong. Nathan both infuriated me and made me fall in love deeper. He and Adele are explosively hot together and in the sequel it's down right intoxicating. The intimacy between these two characters is so all-consuming, you FEEL it everywhere.

Both characters had a lot of growing up to do. They had some very devastating landmines to wade through, and recover from. The angst slayed me. I'm pretty sure I cried enough to fill a couple coffee mugs with my pain. **Hahaha.**Gut wrenching. This book felt real. I have actually lived some of Adele's pain, going through some of the same things she did. Heart breaking.

The relationship growth between Adele and Nathan hurts in the best way. You can feel Adele's loneliness, feel the urgency she has for Nathan, and he for her. Both of them have to transition into living with each other and they've both got such different habits, it's something they both need to get used to. With Adele in school and Nathan teaching at Harvard, they're busy and quality time with each other is taking a hit.

There is SO MUCH THAT HAPPENS in this book. And I don't want to spoil it in a review. Just know this, I fell deeper and harder for Nathan and Adele. What they went through to get to the end was really intense. This sequel was everything it needed to be and so much more. I felt as though it brought depth to this series. Alex is a strong writer. I can't fangirl enough over the actual writing, it just SPEAKS to me. I LOVE it. And with Provocative, there's a rawness to the emotions that hit me hard.

Overall, I cannot recommend Tempting, Provocative and Beguiling enough. This is a series I want to force on everyone. It's an ULTIMATE favorite of mine that's not only sexy, but also emotionally explosive in depth and heart. Adele is a FIERCE character who carries herself with a confidence that's down right enthralling, and Nathan is a man who has swept me off my feet time and time again. Forbidden, sensual, heart pounding, electrifying, this series encompasses EVERYTHING a superb erotic romance should be. I just LOVE it.

Man, oh, man, oh, man!! I honestly have NO IDEA where to start. Holy shiz, this book rocked me to my core! When I first saw that we were getting more from Nathan & Adele I think I squealed a little, then came the anxiety of what on earth would happen between them and wowzas a lot freaking happened between them!

My naughty professor and his teasing temptress stole my heart in Tempting. In Provocative they obliterated it, before rendering me speechless with their love and devotion. The forbidden fantasy became an overwhelming, heart breaking romance that drained me, push all my emotions to the brink and then fully claimed me!

I didn't think I could love them anymore to be honest. I was so scared that this book would do something to make me not like Adele. Don't ask me why just her, I have no idea. It was just a funny feeling. But my word! I freaking LOVE her, even more so now! If possible, her character development in this book brought her on SO MUCH MORE! Alex pushed her to the limits in this book, with a devastating story line that packed a punch in the feels department! But she grew, a lot. And man, I wanted to fist bump her on a few occasions, as well as hug her and cry with her.
Nathan once again made me all tingly. He's sin, wrapped in a delicious hot package. But I'll admit he made me ansty when reading this book, I was on the edge of my seat at times not knowing where their story was going.

However, it went in the best possible direction, a fantastic direction that lit up a pathway to bookworm heaven. A heaven I don't want to descend from!!

Provocative, a sequel to Tempting, naturally starts off with ease and familiarity. Reminding readers of the fierce forces of nature that Nathan and Adele are, Provocative is an authentic depiction of the hardship and laboured reality of love. Alex Lucian's writing continues to excel and exceed expectations. As he brings to life desperation, lust and pain, Provocative is a myriad of emotions that will set your soul on fire.

Adele and Nathan settle into the routine that is life, both focused on their futures, it seems that daily routine and responsibilities has eaten away at the honeymoon phase of their relationship. Caught up in school and work, Adele and Nathan are no longer on the same page. Filled with genuine concern, readers will be anticipating the worst for their favourite couple. And when life throws the biggest curveball, we see how hard it is to really let love conquer all.

Told in alternate points of view, Alex Lucian flawlessly captures the complex aspects of his characters' relationship. Through their fights and their fears, Lucian excels at highlighting the strength of their love and the depth of their connection. As pain and passion is spread throughout every page, Adele and Nathan will make their marks on your heart; showcasing how Lucian successfully woo's his readers with his writing style.

Committed to the whole Tempting Series, Provocative is a reminder of how memorable and enduring this series really is. Pairing scorching sex scenes with an onslaught of heartbreaking emotions; Whether it's a trip down memory lane or the introduction of new and intriguing characters, Provocative, The Tempting Series and Alex Lucian are all undeniably an addiction that all book lovers must feed into.

4.5 Stars!!!

What a great conclusion to Nathan and Adele's story. I loved it! Provocative is the third book in the Tempting Series and the continuation of Nathan and Adele's story from book 1, Tempting. In order to read Provocative, you have to read Book 1. Book 2 is not required as it is focused on a different couple.

This sequel explores how the couple is adapting to living together and how their daily routine is affecting them. In the beginning they're faced with an unexpected situation as a couple and we get to see how they deal with that. It's hard to discuss the book without spoiling it and I don't want to spoil anything!

Adele was definitely my favorite part of the book. She's the star of the story. I loved her way of thinking, her strength and her determination. I loved how she faced her troubles and how she reached Nathan a lesson. She was the adult in the relationship way more than Nathan was. And Nathan, well Nathan was pretty much same unlikeable, hot jerk Nathan, lol. If you read my review of Tempting you know that I have a love/hate relationship with him because he tends to be a jerk. He does turn around in this book and he finally takes the necessary steps to make the relationship with Adele work and I loved that.

Like I said, I overall loved the book. It's a little less hot than Tempting but it's still super hot. This book is also off the charts angsty. I also loved the secondary characters, Leo and Scarlet and I'm super intrigued by Elias. If you love forbidden romances, I super recommend this series. I can't wait to read more books from this author!

Hands down, this is one of the best books I've read in ages. Adele and Nathan's story is sublime. One moment I'm fanning myself over their explosive chemistry, and the next I'm crying all over my ereader. Provocative is exquisitely heartbreaking, beautifully written, and so hot your kindle will combust. Alex Lucian has gotten pretty damn good at hitting home runs because this is a 5-star read and a 5-star series.

This is a continuation of Nate and Adele' s story, picking up six months after the end of book one.

The couple have moved into domestic bliss, although still with that welcome bite of feral, wild smut. She's no longer his student, but they still have to be careful. Very quickly though, their relationship is tested.

I cannot lie, I usually avoid angsty books and this was super angsty. I'm glad I went in blind for, if I'd known, I'd have dodged this one and so missed out on a really moving, gripping story.

I floved this, even though my teeth were grinding more than once, and I wanted to bang their heads together - repeatedly.

This completes their story, but there's a fourth book about Elias. He intrigues me so I'll be grabbing that. This author's a real find, I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

I fell in love with this couple when I read Tempting so I was thrilled to find out there was going to be more from them.

There is no denying that these two have bucket loads of sexual chemistry together and despite their age difference they just work as a couple.

‘She’s beautiful and fierce and smart and one of the strongest women I’ve ever met.’ - Nathan

However, they have had different life experiences to bring into their relationship and some things that Nathan may be keen to embrace are not necessarily on Adele’s short term plan just yet.

The fact that Adele is living in a house surrounded by décor and furnishings picked out by Nathan’s late wife is not lost on her and is making her feel a bit uneasy about what she is contributing to their relationship. Nathan is pretty much financially supporting the two of them and she is feeling like she needs to stand on her own feet a bit more and being a bit more independent.

When they have endure their first real traumatic experience as a couple, Adele is shocked at how Nathan deals with his emotions. The man she expected him to be is the opposite of what she getting and she finds herself weighing up whether or not they do actually have a future together.

‘I’m supposed to be the woman you’re in love with; we’re supposed to be building a life together. But we’re not. And I need you to let me go.’ - Adele

I really loved being back with this couple and was crossing all my fingers and toes that things would work out for them, after all love is all you need right?

I was very impressed and enjoyed the hell out of Tempting so I was eagerly awaiting Provocative. What made me enjoy Tempting was the two MC's Adele and Nathan and of course Alex Lucian's writing.
Provocative proved to be a terrific continuation and conclusion to Adele and Nathan's story.

Both Adele and Nathan showed me different sides of themselves this time around. Adele proved to be more than just a blonde with a feisty mouth. She had a bright head on her shoulders and felt more than she first lead on. So much more. The same can be said about Nathan. He both surprised and disappointed me but he redeemed himself. Big time.

I loved their chemistry when I read Tempting and it was the same with Provocative. So much heat and lust between them. The sex was deliciously hot. One word - Voyeurism!
But it wasn't just sex. I enjoyed the road Lucian chose to take to tell their story. It felt natural, real and believable. So did the dialogue. What happened in their relationship is something everyone can relate to.
It was an intense and emotional ride and I loved that I got to know Adele and Nathan even more. Even though there was a huge age gap between them it still worked in their favor. It brought believable issues to the surface.

This was the perfect conclusion to Adele and Nathan's story. The writing flowed and so did the pace of the story. To get the full Nathan and Adele experience one HAVE read Tempting. The perfect introduction and just as good as Provocative.

4.5 Stars.....Almost Perfect! Slight Spoilers Ahead

OK, so for anyone who has not started this series, please do! It is great and then sheer sexiness, OMFG...it's off the charts hot freaking stuff:)

OK, so why not 5 Stars, well for me, Adele pissed me right the f off!!! Part of me totally understood and got it, I had tears in my eyes and a huge ass lump in my throat on a few occasions for her but there was that one conversation that they had that totally tore my heart into a million pieces for her. BUT after that, I just felt she took it too far and quite honestly was selfish and so my sympathy for her was going straight out the window. Yep, I said it, she was selfish in the latter half, sorry, it's my opinion and as much as she had a right to stand her ground for me, she took it too far and for too long.

Nathan, oh my, this man was just......totally freaking swoony, sexy as sin, a total alpha and yet he had his own inner demons to work through BUT for me and yes, it's a double standard, I didn't find his actions selfish. It was all so hectic and it was all so emotional that I found myself speed reading at some parts because my heart was so heavy and I wasn't sure what the hell was going to happen to this total sexy bad-ass couple!

The ending, LOVED and please, please I hope we get a follow up novella just to see where life has taken them:) They both deserve the BEST and I want to know that they get everything that they want and deserve:)

OK, I almost forgot how awesome this series is and how great of an author Alex Lucian also is, so now I am heading off to read the next book in this series on Elias in Addicted:)

Damn...just damn! Amazing work, yet again. I FLOVE this sexy, intense, and seductive series!

"Some people need air and food to survive. Not us, Adele. We need this. We need each other, just like this."

Adele and Nathan are back, and their relationship is as intense as ever. No longer forbidden, but no less naughty as hell, PROVOCATIVE still pushed all the right buttons. There is no question about their loyalty or the love that they share, but that doesn't automatically grant them a happily ever after.

I was late to game reading TEMPTING, where Nathan and Adele's story began. Needless to say, it fucking ROCKED and I loved it to death! I had no clue that their story wasn't over yet. After all, I really liked how it ended. It felt whole...complete. So when I read the blurb for PROVOCATIVE I got a little scared. I've come across some romances in the past, where the author tried to push another happily ever after into a second book with the same couple, and it didn't work well at all. They were better off leaving those characters be. I'm happy to say that Alex Lucian executed this second book VERY well! More passion, more angst, more mind-blowing chemistry with every turn of the page, made PROVOCATIVE a sexy and invigorating page-turner for sure!

The growth of these characters together, and separately was amazing to witness. Time apart gave them pause to re-evaluate where they were and how they want to end up. They are no longer in a forbidden place, but their past, and how they met still holds them back from truly being happy.

PROVOCATIVE was just that, a provocative, intensely passionate, and overwhelmingly emotional erotic romance that had me laughing, crying, and grinning from ear to ear. Their love is fierce...their love is true...their love is PROVOCATIVE. Every romance reader should take a chance on this author. Trust me on this. Don't wait...dive into the TEMPTING series today!

Waiting for this book was torture, but reading it... I felt many emotions that when I finished I was staring at my Kindle wondering how the heck I was going to recover once again after reading Alex's words.

Since I read Tempting it's been a journey to discover the worlds that Alex create, I can't stress enough how much I love his books, and how much I love student/teacher romances. Man, he always does it. It's like magic pouring out of your Kindle filling your heart and body.

The journey with Nathan and Adele's story continues in Provocative. Tempting for me was amazing but didn't have closure and I was waiting anxiously to read more about them. And my mind was blown away... Because if I felt everything in Tempting, Jesucristo, I barely breathed devouring this book.
This time we can see how their relationship grow and how the dynamic changes. I was used to their lustful stares and hot chemistry, I was used to see them being discreet about their relationship. The honeymoon phase where they couldn't keep their hands to each other... the realization that they couldn't live without a future together... And don't get me wrong because they still love hard, but this time Life says hi from the distance and enters the bubble where they were living.

Nathan's job, Adele's studies, the loneliness of this gorgeous fierce lady. So many things added at this that they needed to reevaluate what they were doing. I'm very aware that you can't fall in a status quo once you're in a relationship... that can kill everything, so that's why they had to fight for each other once again. This time it wasn't to keep secrets, this time was to establish that they were going to last forever and that sometimes we need to fight to keep our loved one by our side (if you know what I mean, I'm not saying fight literally).

The characters and the story was incredibly written, and once again Alex gave me such strong characters. I love his words because he can give you love, angst, and so many emotions that you feel like another person in the story.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to read this book and I hope you take a chance on this.

This is the third book in the tempting series , the third book does not need to be read but the first book needs to be read which is called tempting .

Provocative is exquisitely heartbreaking and also beautifully written. This book will make your kindle go so hot that it will combust .

This story follows the couple Nathan and Adele. Nathan and Adele are one of my favourite couples of the books that I read to do with a professor and student book.

Nathan and Adele's chemistry is so hot and I love how suited they are for each other. Considering there age gap. I love Adele's sassy attitude and I love Nathan's dirty mouth.

This book has a lot of heated moments and the best sex scenes ever. The sex is very intense and it's very panty dropping . This book shows lots of emotions that you will feel.

This book was very emotional and it definitely made me very teary and feel lots of emotions in some of the scenes in this book. This book does contain a sad loss and it shows that you need to stick together as a couple to get through it all . No matter what happens.

If you haven't read this book , then I suggest you get that booty working and one click this book and show support for this author and also read and enjoy this sexy book. I enjoyed every moment on this book and I definitely didn't want it to finish . I cannot wait until the next book in This series comes out .

Alex Lucian has vastly become one of my favorite authors. Starting with the debut of Tempting, and then Leo’s book Beguiling, and now with the new release and continuation of Adele and Nathan’s story in Provocative!

I fell in love with Nathan and Adele’s depth of character in the beginning and let’s face it. Who does not love a good Teacher/Student romance? The chemistry between the two was completely off the charts hot one second, and so heart constricting I couldn’t bear to read on, the next. In Tempting Nathan and Adele went through a lot, and it doesn’t change for Provocative. With both characters being so strong in what they are feeling, that angst leaps off the pages, and you can’t help but feel all of the things they are going through.

One of the marks of a good book, in my opinion, is the author making the reader feel the gamut of emotions that the characters are feeling. Laughing when they laugh, crying when they cry, and feeling the heat when it gets turned up on the pages. Alex Lucian does that and so much more. Captivated from page one, and the ending came too fast. I needed more. I love this series and in particular this book, and implore EVERYONE to read it. This will definitely be on my best of the best list for 2016.

This is the finale to Adele and Nathan's story.
It was good and they struggle with situations a "may/december" couple would struggle with.
Alex Lucian new when to add the sexy and when to add the pain that's been forged into this character's stories since the beginning.
On the other side, I would have like to know more about Adele's writing career, something that was a main key to the first book's plot, and there were things that weren't explained, like from where was Adele getting the little money she had, since in the first book her father was supporting her thanks to her changing her degree from creative writting to journalism, but on this book she cuts all ties from him and the rest of the family. Also in the epilogue is mentioned that she graduated, but there is no mention of what her plans for the future are going to be, which given that she had won a very important scholarship and how much of an amazing writer she had proven to be, felt like a void in the plot. We get know her more, but all is relationship related, and Adele was simply too strong of a character to seclude her to a relationship status. I wasn't expecting her to get a three book deal with a major publisher, but happy ending aside, I wanted a bit more from her.

Adele and Nathan are back, hotter and more intense than ever. Provocative is book two of the duet, you will want to read Tempting first to better understand their relationship.

Nathan is now working at Harvard and spending late nights keeping up with his new position. When life throws Adele and Nathan a curve ball it changes everything. It's a roller coaster ride of promises, letdowns and heartfelt emotions.

Adele maybe young but she's strong and feisty. She finds herself in an unfortunate situation and sticks up for herself. She doesn't settle for less. She's been let down in her past and when it happens again she moves on. She won't let it destroy her. Nathan is suffering on his own, he makes assumption that keeps him away. Their relationship had been built on their physical connection. They failed to communicate and when the chips were down their lack of communication drives a wrench in their relationship. The story is heartbreaking and the drama is intense. You're going to want to break out the tissues. 4 stars!

Oh what a great conclusion to Nathan and Adele's story. This whole series is really good, I've really enjoyed reading all 3. I feel like each story gets better and better.

There was a bag full of emotions with this book. Pain, loss, hurt and need. But there was also growth, happiness and buckets of love. Lots of love and hot sexy times with those two. There's just something about Adele that makes me still feel all wishy-washy, I don't know. I do know that I am for sure all about Nathan. Got some love for him I do.

I can say that I'm very much looking forward to the next book. Bring on Elias. Whew!

I was given a free copy for an honest review. Provocative really does describe this book, The title suits and sets the tone for the whole book. I kind of have a thing for emotionally devastating books, and Provocative was everything I could have ever wanted. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking I just loved it so much!

I'm so glad about my one-click-addiction because otherwise I would have never been able to read this amazing and emotional book! I'm really sorry for everyone who wants to read this book (or series) because you're definitely missing out on one of the best books I've ever read. This book is just so beautiful and hot and emotional and... I can't even describe how much I loved this book. I swooned and I cried, Adele and Nathan just stole my heart again with this great conclusion to Tempting.

Provocative is just such an amazing and beautifully written book! I'm just so glad I bought this series all this time ago and can now fall even more deeply in love with these characters and their stories. Alex Lucian has definitely written a masterpiece here. Hands down to this great conclusion to Adele and Nathan's story. I really hope that one day Alex Lucian will be back and write yet another masterpiece.

Confused

I want to give this a higher rating because I thought the characters were well developed but the story itself brought me back to earth. They were intriguing and emotional and it was amazing. The storyline I was like really why and WTH most of the time. However the character for me anyways is the reason they have a good rating.

She gets pregnant and has a miscarriage. The couple fight and take the whole book to make up. He sells the house and gives his dead wife’s things back to her parents and moves on. Months later, he proposes to her during sex on the day she graduates from college.

I started skimming after the miscarriage because it was a pretty lame premise for a fight.

“Provocative”: Stimulating, incendiary, confrontational.

All apt words to describe Alex Lucian’s third book in the Tempting series. This is NOT a standalone and book one in the series, Tempting, must be read first. As Tempting is a great story in itself, this is no hardship. Provocative is a highly emotional, angst ridden, hangover inducing read that I could not put down. I didn’t know what to do with myself after finishing it. I didn’t want to even start reading a new book (blasphemy!) because I knew that no other would be able to even remotely come close to the absolute perfection that Provocative was.

Nathan and Adele. One soul residing in two bodies. They are sensual, loving, combustible…. And are beginning to live separate lives. They hide their emotional shortcomings behind mind blowing sex. But sex can only be the glue that holds them together for so long. When faced with devastation, instead of grieving together, they each live in their own dark worlds. Neither knowing how to cope, what to say, or even how to feel. And because of it, Nathan loses Adele.

“Have you ever tried to live without your heart?...You can’t. You can’t live without it. She’s got it.”

Nathan lost Adele and he knows that it was his fault. He wasn’t there for her, even when he promised he would. He treated her like a child and ignored her pleas, believing that she was being irrational because she was so young. But once he had a good, long look in the mirror he opened his eyes to the realization that her walking out on him could have been prevented if he would have been there for her like he promised her he would. Her objections were valid, and he sacrificed his time with her for his new job, believing that she would be fine with what little time he was able to allot her. He fucked up and in a big way.

Adele loves Nathan, but she can’t be with him when he doesn’t take her concerns seriously, and instead patronizes her because of her age. He may be older than her, but they are supposed to be equals when it comes to their relationship. His inability to keep his promises, after knowing her emotional scars from the past, is a hardline for her. She doesn’t know what else to do but give each other time away from one another. It hurts, it breaks her heart, but it’s also the last thing she can think of to get him to see how serious she is. Adele needs the time away, and with it will come clarity that she needs to see things from his perspective as well.

This book is emotionally draining. It hurts to follow along with their lives when they are both in so much pain. Apart, they are in limbo because they truly belong together. They just have to learn to really be together on all levels. Nathan has to win Adele back, but Adele has to do some soul searching as well. They are both at fault for the relationship imploding as it did, but to move forward together they have to lay it all out there. They are meant to be together, but if they both aren’t fully committed they won’t last.

There is so much that happens in this book. The emotional range of it is mind boggling. This book is fantastic and Alex Lucian has cemented herself as a freaking fantastic author. I applaud her for writing a book that had to have put her through the emotional ringer and I thank her just to the same for the opportunity to read such a wonderful story. I can’t even truly express how fantastic this book was. Not reading Provocative would be a crime to books everywhere.
