Aimee Easterling is a USA Today Bestselling author writing on the boundary between urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She specializes in spunky shifters and invites you to dive into her werewolf world in the Wolf Rampant trilogy, the spinoff Bloodling serial, and her new Alpha Underground series.
Studying biology and working as a naturalist have both informed Aimee's writing, but she's quite willing to let reality slide in favor of a good story. When not writing, she loves to read and always keeps books by Robin McKinley, Patricia Briggs, and Elizabeth Peters on her shelf. You can learn more at www.aimeeeasterling.com.
This book was slightly disappointing because it was full of short stories that are part of full novels. I would have liked it much more if it were the full story I was reading. I will say that each author in this book had a distinct way of writing that did not mirror the other authors, though they share the same subject matter of paranormal fantasy and/or romance.
I picked this one up for Aimee Easterling's Fen story, which was short but okay. After reading the series it just added a bit more to Fen's background. I did enjoy a few of the other stories, not sure about continuing any of the series. Light quick read.
A few of these stories were not very good, however, I did find a few new authors to look into. One of the stories was ONLY sex...Not my thing. This is a good read if you're looking for a few new authors to add to your "to read" list (or Not read list) :)
Ten short stories set up as tasters to expose a reader to new Paranormal Fantasy and Romance writers. Each short story is set in a world where a novel or series is set, with all the short stories working as stand-alones as well as introductions. Sometimes they feature established characters, sometimes side-characters, sometimes they predate the novels, sometimes parallel and sometimes give insight to things on the side.
As with all anthologies, the writing is uneven. The first few are great, a couple toward the end weak, and the final one is a blowout.
Tough as Nails by Aimee Easterling (Alpha Underground Short Story) Dark Intent by Lisa Swallow (Between Short Story) Lust at First Sight by Katie Salida (Moonlight Prequel) Not a Witch by Debbie Herbert (Appalachian Short Story) Black Friday by Kate Corcino (Progenitor Universe - prequel short story) Blue House Magic by Catherine Stine (Fireseed Short Story) Dreams' End by LG Castillo (Broken Angel Short Story) The Hex by Lucy Leroux (Cursed Short Story) Take Me by Susan Stec (A Purgatory Novella)
This is a great free introduction to ten paranormal authors. I had to laugh at the mere concept of "Black Friday", which is about the dangers of Christmas shopping after the world as we know it has come to an end. The anthology contains varying heat levels and lots of intriguing characters. The only problem? You'll probably want to follow at least one of these authors into a paid book by the time you're done!
A collection of short stories of different length, described as prequels to actual stories, or spin-offs. First, none of them were annoying cliffhangers, each of these stories had a "proper" ending, although, of course, some I would call teasers, but in a good way, i.e. wetting your appetite for more of this author and/or series. I liked all of them, some were great, some were average, but none of these little jewels was actually badly written, or boring. Definitely a recommendation from me.
After reading Susan Stecs book and having devoured all of Rebecca Hamilton's books I bought this box set as a default read thinking that it would be ok. Guess what , I just kept on reading till I'd finished all ten novels. There are some terrific paranormal stories in there . Superb buy at that price . I am now a fan of boxed sets its like something for nothing.
I got this book as a free download, and what a great way to get to know some new Authors in a genre I like. The perfect way to get a small, sometimes a little larger sample, of some new stories and you can decide if you want to get to know the Author more. Very entertaining, with action, suspense, romance and of course the paranormal. Loved it.
This is a good selection of short stories. They have some action, a little mystery, magic and lots of different creatures. So grab it and enjoy reading it.
