Bieler and Schottroff bring together the best of contemporary scholarship on ritual theory and practice, Eucharistic origins, the Eucharist and eschatology, the Eucharist and world hunger, the global economy, and the dynamics of torture in a dramatic new vision of the transformative power of the Eucharist for our world. Reflection questions lead readers into the issues raised in each chapter.
Excellent read ... use of Eucharist as image of sharing bodies, sharing stories both personal and collectively, sharing pain and pleasure and as memory. Use of biblical studies and liturgical studies to provide a critique of empire and the status quo. I facilitated a 6 week discussion series on the book and one of the authors also visited us at Epworth UMC ... it was amazing.
