Many citizens in the small college town of Rawlings, Montana, are unsurprised to learn that Virginia Rinaldi, the world-famous sociologist, was murdered. A few are secretly pleased. Her political enemies knew her as an ideologue who used insults, threats, and blackmail to promote her unpopular social views. When Detectives Seagate and Miner begin their investigation, they discover that a local prostitute had recently moved into the professor's house, angering Rinaldi's college-age son. And when the community learns that the prostitute made a lesbian porn video with one of Rinaldi's students, tensions on campus erupt, leading to more bloodshed. Drawn into a horrifying world of sexual violence and exploitation, Seagate devises a plan to flush out the killer. The plan appears to be on track--until Seagate unwittingly jeopardizes the life of her partner, Ryan Miner.

Fast, easy reading. Rawlings, Montana, is a small university town. A female Sociology professor dies under unusual circumstances and local homicide detectives investigate. The suspects are many and varied and none are in a position to throw the first stone. This is mostly a procedural and the reader can share the experience of solving this single crime that morphed into a multitude of crimes. Very satisfactory reading!

Many novels rely on multiple points of view or confusing past and present tenses in an attempt to create mystery. Mike Markel has not done that. He has written THE REVEAL in a brilliant, easy-to-follow style, the twists and turns created by his perfectly believable plot and clever delivery. The characters are so believable, it seems I know them. The victim, a self-styled sociology professor with an avantgarde life style. The detective, Karen Seagate, a recovering alcoholic who’s willing to break protocol in her hunt for the truth. And then her faithful side-kick, Ryan Miner, an otherwise straight player she leads into risky decisions.
Working for many years as a forensic consulting engineer for law enforcement, and as an F.E. and H.E. lecturer, I had to chuckle. Mike Markle’s characters actually exist. I have met them!

Virginia Rinaldi, outspoken sociologist professor is found dead. Well liked by her students but not so much by the rest of the department it is for Detectives Seagate and Miner to investigate.
Another enjoyable and interesting mystery in this well-written series

Engrossing

This book kept my attention even when reading in spurts. I like the way Mike could describe physical actions we all use while in a conversation: spinning a finger to say, "I get it, move on."

The Reveal by Mike Markel Review

College, religion, sex and porn but wait arson and murder too!

Drawn into a horrifying world of sexual violence and exploitation, Seagate devises a plan to flush out the killer. The plan appears to be on track--until Seagate unwittingly jeopardizes the life of her partner, Ryan Miner.

What did I like? I have read every book in this series and have loved each one. Of course, the best part of all the books is Karen Seagate. This is one tough gal that has been through hell and made it out the other side. Not to say that she does not have her daemons, as we all do one way or another. She has a great rapport with her partner Ryan and he is a little cutie that all of us would love to know. I particularly love the way that they work together without even thinking they mesh together but as different as day and night.

What are you going to like? A very strong woman with problems told in a very down to earth way. An amazing, well developed story line that is detailed with lots of descriptions to keep you in the loop every minute. A chance to miss work, or read to late hours just to finish this book and get on to the next. To put it bluntly a great read from a talented author. Check out his other books you’re going to love them too!

This is book number 6 in the Seagate and Miner series. I knew I had read a few in this series but its been awhile....once I started this one I remembered how much I really enjoyed Mr. Markel's writing so I decided to go book to book one in the series and read about the Detectives from the start. In book 6 Detectives Seagate and Miner are called in on a murder of a Professor in the nearby college. During their investigating they fine out the professor is not like at all due to her views on a number of issues. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way and Seagate at one point puts her partner in harms way and nearly cost him his life. The book is one that once you start it you need to finish. It keeps your attention and is a fast easy read. Can't wait till the next one comes out. I read this free for an honest review.

Mike Markel Does It Again

Paid for by the Mike Markel Does It Again campaign. I did receive a copy of this book as incentive to provide a fair and honest review. In the latest Detective Seagate and Ryan crime novel, we can see how his writing is more concise, his characters more strongly developed and the story better told. I don't like to tell much of the story, but in this book you are never forced to suspend disbelief, with characters or the story. Unlike many serial writers, Mike ties up all of the loose ends before you close the cover. Another hit from an author of increasingly more interesting cast of characters and stories taking place in the mythical Rawlings Montana. Well written, fast paced crime drama at its best.

Mike Markel has done it again! Detectives Seagate and Miner go to the University when a Professor is found lying on the stairs. Was it an accident or murder? The more they look into this question, the more questions keep popping up. And why is a "sex worker" at her house and what is all these so called classes at her house about? How did a porn film get on the internet with a college co-ed and the "sex worker"? These are just a few of the questions that keep flying at Seagate and Miner. Do they solve the mystery? Was it an accident or murder and who was responsible? Read the book to find out.

Wow and double wow. Really enjoyed this book. Some authors (especially English majors) get hung up on detail that often distracts from the story line. You stayed on track and gave the story enough detail to increase the interest.. Loved seeing a male author develop a strong female character and stay true to the character without making her an Amazon warrior. I usually can figure out the person who committed the crime by the second to third chapter but in this book I was 80% done before I was aware of "Who don it" I will be looking for more of your books.

Detectives Karen Seagate and Ryan Miner are on the case again. This mystery surrounds a college campus where a professor who has some definite opponents has been murdered. Who disliked her enough kill for it? What they uncover is a lot of sex and intrigue. Will they ever be able to find the true story behind what happened? Book has great characters and story line. Interesting subject material.

A great addition to the Seagate and Miner series!

I've been looking forward to this book since I finished the previous entry in this series. I was kept guessing until the end and still didn't see it coming. I would highly recommend this book as well as the rest of this series.

The only thing that kept me from giving a five star rating was the what I found to be annoying habit of Seagate always having Miner dial numbers for her or do her scutt work.

Okay read

All the reviews gives this series a five or four stars, but I can't. Reasons are: she does her job but not a strong person, goes to AA meetings but doesn't learn anything and drinks. Most annoying things are repeatedly asks Ryan to call the person she wants to talk to, instead of going to her car always "charger". Got it she drives a sporty Dodge.

A delightful detective murder mystery about a dead professor. The author superbly keeps all the characters and suspects clear for the reader.
