Schism

This is a collection of stories by Lincoln Cole written throughout his life. Some of it was written while he was still developing his style, and some of the stories are attempts at different genres and branching out to try something new. It is a compilation of many works submitted to magazines or services throughout the years.

The first story is a visionary world with steampunk themes, corporations battling under cover of darkness to try and run the streets. Later in the collection there is a dystopian future where the remaining few have to choose who lives and who dies as the Earth becomes unable to support life. Another work satirizes modern technology and how easy it is to get control of hacking technology.

Throughout the collection some of the works are from Lincoln Cole beginning his journey as a writer putting words to paper.

Lincoln Cole is a Columbus based author who enjoys traveling and has visited many different parts of the world, including Australia and Cambodia, but always returns home to his pugamonster puppy, Luther, and family. His love for writing was kindled at an early age through the works of Isaac Asimov and Stephen King and he enjoys telling stories to anyone who will listen.

This is a great collection of short stories. Help line had me laughing pretty hard because I'm a computer nerd. Life and Death, which is about the end of the world, kind of made me want to read a longer version as to what lead up to this and what happened to the people in the end.

All of the stories are well written and the characters fleshed out. The Amazon page for this novel states it is his earlier works, so I look forwards to reading more works by this author

This is a great Anthology full of stories (ten in total) that differ so much, that reading it start to finish is like going on an emotional roller-coaster ride. It was a nice quick read and once I had started it I had finished it within a few hours. But people do say I'm a quick reader. XD

Life after Death is by far my favorite. It takes place at the end of the world and it is incredibly profound and devastating: that it had me close to tears. It was written beautifully and had me wanting more. I would definitely read a full book where that short story took place.

I also really enjoyed Desperate. It is a story about a mother/grandmother named Victoria who feels unwanted and alone. It takes place with her and her brother having a conversation about her life by a fountain. It starts heavyhearted but with the little bits of humor added it makes it a fun read. A particular story about an elf and skittles made me laugh very loud. It is a story of life, of challenges that anyone can sympathize with, and of thoughts that many of us have had. Though Victoria feels alone, it has the reader realize along with her that we are not alone as we may think.

I could go on about a few other stories in this anthology that remained with me after reading them; but, then this review would be incredibly long. Lol

I definitely recommended this book to anyone who enjoys short stories, good writing, profound thinking, and a little bit of action and humor.

These two short stories are similar in theme, but very different in execution. One is a short story about the end of the world, and the other is about being betrayed.

One is punctuated with action and intrigue, the other with dialogue and a surprise twist at the end. The first one is planned to showcase a long running character that will come back in later works.

First is sort of shadowrun with a character being betrayed. The second is about the world ending and deciding who lives and who dies.
