A Dog in the Fog

Rate this book
Written and illustrated by Tanja Russita, the author of "Who is Yan?" and creator of many picture books for young children, "A Dog in a Fog" collects three simple stories. The first story begins the fun with a dog on the go:

"I am a dog.
I run by the bog.
I run by the bog on a good steady log.
But look it's a fog!"

Next, comes "Aron and Nora", the story of a boy and a fish:

"I am Aron.
I am Nora.
She is a fish.
He is a boy."

This wonderful story is followed by "Sun. Rain. Snow. Wind," the tale of an elephant weathering the seasons.

Throughout, elegantly simple pen and ink drawings are matched with witty words.

Good book for beginner readers, and for little ones to be read to.
Cute illustrations, but do wish there was a little color added.

Boring

Pretty boring in every way. Illustrations, story, sentences, color. Not even sure if a child learning to sound out words would be satisfied, my 1yo didn’t want to pay attention.

This is a collection of three simple stories. The first one begins with a happy little dog that is raring to go........

"I am dog.
I run by the bog.
I run by the bog on a good steady log.
But look it's a fog!"

The second story is about a little boy named Aron and his pet fish. They do all kind of fun things together and enjoy each other's company. The fish certainly has a personality and joins in with Aron to sing, swim, and not fish (noooooo), just to name a few.

The third story, "Sun. Rain. Snow. Wind.," is a charming story about an elephant who experiences the weather and its variety of temperatures and activity. His expressions are wonderful and his compassion for those around him shows he is kind and caring.

The vocabulary is simple and the pages are uncluttered... a spot-on recipe for beginner readers to comprehend and learn new vocabulary. The fun expressive illustrations are pen and ink drawings and visually depict the word meanings. The words rhyme, which kids love, and are perfect to start word recognition skills with no pressure... just pure, simple, fun.

This is an ideal book for toddlers. Both parent and child will enjoy the beginning reading learning experience.

Tanja Russita presents a collection of three humorous stories in this delightful early reader. I liked the way she incorporated sight words into her rhyming test making it easy for young prereaders to memorize. The illustrations are adorable in simple pen and ink drawings capturing the essence of each story’s message. I can see how young children will be drawn to this book. I would recommend for children who love listening to stories focusing on animals.

My youngest daughter who is now 6 loves Tanja's books and we received a copy from the author as a gift for her.

The vocabulary is perfect for beginner readers and the humour in each story perfect for the age group. The clever illustrations ably supports both the dialogue and humour. My daughter comes back to reread this book time and again and giggles her way through each time.

Three short tales that employ silly rhymes with sight words to entice beginning readers. The accompanying black and white line drawings will be easy for preschoolers to recognize. Targeted for children ages two through seven, the book can be a read aloud by an adult to later encourage an independent reread or a beginning sight word reader using basic vocabulary and simple sentences.

Great first reader

3 short stories, perfect for beginner readers. The words are simple and rhyme, giving great CVC practice. Easy enough for my kindergartener to read on her own. Perfect for my preschooler who is learning to read by memorization.

A Dog in the Fog: Short Word Fun for Beginning Readers (Simple Books Book 3)
Reminds me of some of Dr. Seuss works. This is a colorful rhyming children's book.
Illustrations are great showing what the dog is doing.
Lots of other works by the author are highlighted at the end.

Three for one

This book is super silly. Three stories in one and all so cute, funny and silly. I laughed reading these. My kids thought my voices and renditions were funny too.
