A short, sweet romance about family life at Christmas time. This is not T.K. Chapin's best work and the characters are not very well developed, but it does illustrate that life is not always perfect, sad things happen to good people, humans can certainly make mistakes in understanding each other, and God is good, all the time and Jesus is our Saviour and our Lord.
I am not sure how or when I received this but I had it on my Kindle as a .pdf and I believe that affected my enjoyment somewhat, as it appeared somewhat choppy. Don't judge T.K.'s writing by this 'early start' book. He writes some great stories.
Zaujimavy pribeh. Prisiel mi trosku ako filmovy pribeh, priamo z platna. Zo zaciatku trosku nudny, a ked sa to zaslo rozbiehat, uz to skoncilo. Zapletka a rozuzlnenie prislo prilis rychlo.. niektore pasaze by som vymazal (amazing grace pasaz bola uplne zbytocna), a tej zene z neho doma by som dal inu rolu. Sle pribeh pekny - o vnutorom boji lasky, chcelo by to prepracovat.
I found the female main character hard to like or invest in. If I were the guy, I don’t know that I would jump into a relationship with someone who judges and assumes so easily. She treated him very poorly.
In so many ways, this book reminded me of a bunch of hallmark movies. including- but not limited to- Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly series. I, myself, am not a Christian yet I've always felt that Christian romances enhance such genuinely beautiful morals and values. I was pleased to find that this novel was to be no different: the messages came in the form of Jill's father-Adam, the pastor. He was my favourite character.
Which brings me to my least favourite character: Jill, the widow. Jill meets Jake (sorry not Jack-,the names were a bit of an issue), and instantly she feels a connection. But, then she is reminded of Bradley (the man she lost) so she cuts things short. At this point, they haven't yet had a true, meaningful conversation. They run into one another some times after, he asks her out- she says yes. The date never really happens because she becomes too upset by someone from her past. Therefore, they still have not yet had a true, meaningful conversation. Which makes no sense because the next time they come into contact, he (Jake: declares his love for her (Jill). A woman who has obvious trust issues and internally, later outwardly, accuses him of adultery.
You may think that this will tell her that she knows little about Jake- but it doesn't, instead she tries to just stop thinking about him. She turns to another man- Tim- again a stranger, which is a little surprising for a small town. This man is wealthy, seemingly happy, and has very minimal care for her. This becomes evident during their first date. Yet she insists on seeing him again, believing he is a charming man who will look after her. She doesn't question his intentions at all. Nor does she ever think about Bradley, when she is with this guy. Needless to say, she is very naive.
Her innocence also comes to light when she speaks to her mother, after the death of her grandmother. Her mother deals brilliantly with the death, she grieves internally. Yet her daughter, who has had her fair share of an experience with death, can't seem to accept it. This bit made be laugh, I'm sure that was not what the author wanted. A grown woman asks her mother "are you not sad anymore?" It was such a stupid question, you'd expect it from a child.
When I saw this book, I thought: it's written by a guy, it'll be different. I tend to enjoy reading books by men. I was quite mistaken, this novel relied too heavily on cliché: the selfish rich man, the kind-hearted poor guy (well, not that poor). I think the author was too focused on the message that he paid little attention to the bits which go around the central message.
I read the revised edition of Love Again by T.K. Chapin. I found it to be a very enjoyable story. I had not read the first version so I found it interesting to read the author’s note telling how he had expanded the novella and why he had done so. It is longer than some novellas I have read but not as long as the novels he has written.
I found it to be a realistic look at a person moving on after losing a loved one. I liked Jill and could understand her wavering at dipping her toes back into the dating pond. Her plans had been to grow old together with her husband. When the unthinkable happens, I loved how the author showed her family as supportive. I even understood her former mother-in-law even though her angry is misplaced. I would have liked to see that relationship expanded on more. Susan’s bitterness was so pronounced, I wondered if there was more to it than just Brad’s death.
Lastly the contrast between the two different men Jill meets is very well done. I think like Jill we sometimes forget that others are dealing with their own struggles as in Jake’s case. Then the author compared that to how some have a hidden agenda such as Tim Percy. As Jill considers these two men clearly the importance of having the same core values such as faith in God stands out. Overall this is a story that happens at Christmas but it is not necessarily a Christmas story. The events, emotions and actions of the characters could happen any time as a person is on the bumpy road of overcoming paralyzing grief.
Christmas Romance: Love Again, written by T.K. Chapin, is a revamped/rewritten edition of Love Again a book that the author released originally November 2014. I did read the first edition of this book and found that this rewritten edition is greatly improved! Although the majority of the story is intact, the story has been enormously improved…no doubt due to the author’s growth in writing for the past year. Little “issues” with the first edition have been corrected and the storyline is very clean and extremely enjoyable.
My favorite character in this book was Jillian. Jill is a widow in her twenties. Her husband, Brad, died and now she’s left to figure out life on her own. She hasn’t been able to get past her grief of losing Brad and suddenly meets a guy that she finds very intriguing…but can she really trust her feelings when she still grieves Brad yet is so lonely?! The range of emotions I felt reading through this book was from one end of the spectrum to the other… I loved the close knit family she has and found myself tearing up over a situation…other parts I was cheering Jill on to “get him” and then dying laughing at other parts…Truly enjoyed this book! I’ve read other books from Chapin, but this one is written in the third person and shows the diversity of the author. Many of the other books written by Chapin are written in first person, which I have thoroughly enjoyed…but this book was very enjoyable to see variety of writing by this author!
A lovely Christmas story centered around a woman named Jillian who lost her husband 2 years ago and is having a hard time moving on with her life. Whenever I read a story, I like to put myself in the character's shoes and I thought of myself in Jillian's. How would I feel if I were a widow after 2 years? I know it would be hard to move on if you have loved your spouse so completely. The holidays would especially be a difficult time. Jillian happens to meet Jake one morning when his dog comes onto her property. Sometimes it's the ordinary happenings, such as these, that can change our lives forever. Jillian and Jake have occasional meetings over the course of a few weeks but there are also some misunderstandings and it takes awhile for them to get on the same page with each other. Because of Jillian's reluctance to "move on" from her husband's death, she misinterprets some things in her interactions with Jake. I felt they were a little harsh but then, I wasn't emotionally involved! This is a nice, quick read for the Christmas season and I would recommend it!
I decided to read this book because I liked the cover (Yes, I judge a book by its cover…gasp!) And, it was a Christmas story :-) The synopsis was promising, but I was disappointed in the end.
First, the story was too short, less than even a novella. (I read the whole thing while waiting in the doctor’s office this morning!). Everything needed for a good novel was there, but none of the ideas were fully developed. Plus, I would have loved to have Jake’s side of the story included (crazy family and all).
I also didn’t like the main character too much. I found her to be immature and fickle, constantly jumping to the wrong conclusions and acting like she’s been wronged by Jake before they even knew each other.
I believe the author has promise though. I read samples of his other work that were better than this book. I think I also have his book "The Perfect Cast" on my Nook and I may give it a try.
Having not read the earlier edition of this book, I can't comment on any improvement from the first to the second edition of this story.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a book about a second chance at love after the loss of Jill's first love two years ago. It is also a story about a family drawing close and supporting each other during the sorrow of losing a member of that family and even finding joy in the midst of that sorrow.
To sum it up I would describe this story as a picture of the verse Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose."
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my review of the story.
Isn’t the cover of this book beautiful? I read T.K. Chapin’s novella “Love Again” last night in one setting. Yes, its that good. He has written a heartwarming novella of new beginnings, the hurdles of life, celebrating the passing of a godly loved one. You’ll experience family closeness through Jill’s family. Included is a reminder of not judging someone on what you see and how to see with a new perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and you will too. A great time of year to read this novella and to be encouraged in whatever is happenings in your life!

This was a quick read and cute story. Jill is grieving the loss of her husband, and learning to love again. She meets Jake and has an attraction to him, but can't decide if it's ok to fall in love again. Jill's family is also experiencing the pain of losing Jills grandmother at Christmas time.
The emotional struggle is real and T.K. Chapin did such a great job connecting those emotions with the reader.
This is a cute, heartfelt story about a woman who struggles to move on after the death of her husband. Throughout the story I could feel Jill's pain as she went back and forth about her feelings for Jake. I'm sure part of hr felt like she couldn't move forward because that would be betraying her deceased husband. This story reminds us that God doesn't want us to be alone, nor would our spouses if we had lost them.
This is a very well written love story about trying to move on after the death of a spouse. I could feel the conflict and emotions being shared in this story and, while I personally can't identify, felt much compassion for the characters. Highly recommend this story. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a lovely Christmas story about Jill. Devastated by the loss of a husband two years previous, she meets Jake. There is an attraction with lots of misunderstanding. The characters keep you engaged and you find God's love through out the story.
This short story is one that teaches us a lesson. Never assume things, always check to make sure you know what is what. There are sad parts, funny parts throughout this story which keep you entertained.
Such great loss such as the death of a spouse can cause one to be guarded and protective of one's heart. This story is a good depiction of the struggle of letting someone in after such great loss. Clean and faith based without being to preachy, this is an enjoyable read.
I really couldn't get into this novella, I didn't like the whining or the attitude or a lot of things. Was very disappointed because I normally love everything he writes.
Interesting read about a woman who lost her husband two years ago. The first time she sees Jake, she has an instant connection with him, however things get in the way.
I like books that have real meaning Hutchison confused me with the main character going f err on praying on end slapping a man and being rude. Didn't like it.
Love Again is a Christian novella about a young widow, Jillian, who struggles with moving on from loss. The story is a good one and the characters are believable, but the writing could use a bit more editing.
