The army of senior warriors had repeatedly beaten back numerous attempted invasions of Earth. Planet Dixie has fallen to the Libra Alliance using Jacka mercenaries. Scotty Scholl, Earth's Ambassador is on the run. The population has been infected by a pandemic rendering the victims helpless against their invaders and deadly against their allies. The Gray Panthers along with U.S. Army Special Forces are repulsed with heavy casualties attacking the dug in invaders. Only the raider Beater, with its deadly squadron of captured fighters deep in enemy space is kicking butt. Now it's time for the Gray Panthers to use their years of experience and advanced technology to take the fight to the enemy.
After growing up in the small town of Onalaska in Wisconsin I contracted a serious case of gypsy disease. For the next 21 years I traveled all over the world with the USAF. The experiences I garnered are the seeds for many of my stories. The experiences from the numerous deployments I had in the Air Force has given me enough fodder for stories for the rest of my life. Although I started writing military science fiction trying to emulate my favorite author John Ringo. I recently started writing horror and was a 2019 Dragon Awards finalist. In 2020 I'll be trying a new genre.
This is a good book and a nice adventure story. Since it was an eARC graciously provided to me by the author I will not make a full review at this time. It is work in progress after all.
Great book. This was filled with excitement to the very end. I was always surprised about what would come next. I do hope that there will some follow on books within this universe also.
Reading this novel is like watching a train wreck. The story is so disjointed and chaotic that I almost stopped reading it. But true to train wrecks, I kept reading. There are some elements in this and the previous two novels that I really like. The problem I find is that for all of these warriors who served in previous wars that they all seem like pussies. Once under pressure they crack. Everyone wants to quit except Short Blade, the runt Jacka warrior. The writing style of this book hops around too much and has little structure. I am not the best writer, as this review should indicate but if I were to write a novel, it would have a lot more detail than this one. There is very little depth to the characters and the written dialogue between characters is so brief that you might think it was written by my 9 year old son. The space battles have almost no science to them and it feels like kids running around with toy spaceships in their hands going "pew pew!" Like I said earlier, it really is a shame that this one turned out like it did because there are certainly some cool plot elements in this story that if cleaned up would make for a great story. The book is obviously self edited with many grammatical errors and even the occasional here and there. Mr. Guenther, please slow down while writing, give the characters more depth, increase the dialog between them, and add some hard science to your space battles. Ill read your next novel, because I do like the character Short Blade. He is one of the few you gave some depth to. For others reading this review, I read a lot of sci-fi, and most of it is from indie authors trying to get started in this business. This is my 1st 1 star review. If you haven't read the 1st two novels, you need to, but they are written the same way as this one. There is a little more detail in those two, but the writing style is the same. Enjoy the wreck at your own peril just as I did.
Good story, well written. Enjoyed the ground combat aspect, and the interaction between characters - also an interesting incorporation of a recently popular alternate genre (and a cool "cure" to the issue)
Libra wars with many worlds by using mercenaries called Jacka. Dan Daniels comes up with a plan to create a League of Nations. Coming to the side of the Dixie planet gives him the opportunity he needs to present his plan. Young Jacka Short Blade rises in the ranks of the Grey Panthers to help with the war. Disjointed book with a good plot. Once you finally understand the jumping around you enjoy what is happening. Take time to understand each segment as you start through book. I will more books by author as a now understand his techniques.
A very compelling and appealing story. Good characters, that could be expanded upon. The story line is a little simplistic and the page spacing and headings need typing up. Despite that this is highly readable.
We Dan and his team have turned around the attacks on earth and Dixie. Built a force to protect the league's planets and earth. But l am sure that things will never be that simple. We will see where David decided to take us next.
