A travelogue which describes the details about the travel towards Rakaposhi base camp - Rakaposhi is also known as Dumani ("Mother of Mist"). It is ranked 27th highest in the world and 12th highest in Pakistan, but it is more popular for its beauty than its rank might suggest. Rakaposhi has an uninterrupted vertical rise of approximately 6000 m (19,685 feet), making it the tallest mountain on land when measured from the base to peak.

Mustansar Hussain Tarar (Urdu: مستنصر حسين تارڑ) is a Pakistani author, actor, the first Morning Show presenter and a pioneer trekker - in his own words: a vagabond.

Having made a name for himself by taking the mantle in Pakistan's mountaineering community, Mustansar Hussain is widely recognized as one of the most well known personalities in Pakistan. Though the origin of his fame is usually considered to be his established and decorated career as a writer, Tarar can also be recognized as the foremost endorser for tourism projects in Northern Areas of Pakistan, having exorbitantly increased the array of tourist exposure to the areas by becoming both a mountaineer and an adventure author who uses these locations as backdrops for his storylines.

Mustansar Hussain's literary proficiency as an author often overshadows the fact that he has been an active mountaineer for a very extensive period of time. Having embarked upon several painstaking and challenging tasks such as the ascension of K-2 and the surpassing of the treacherous "Chitti Buoi" Glacier among others. More significantly, both of Mustansar Hussain's professions often intertwine and relate, since he uses his experiences on his expeditions as travelogues. Though some of his publications have met lukewarm reactions due to supposed exaggeration, he reflects on this predicament with the notion that "words or even pictures cannot successfully express the beauty and splendour of nature in it's true spirit."

Tarar's first book Nikley Teri Talash Main, a travelogue of Europe, was published in 1971. He has so far over forty titles to his credit which include many genres of literature; travelogues, novels, short stories and collection of his newspaper columns and television dramas. He has been one of the best-seller fiction writer of Pakistan.

Mustansar was born in 'Jokalian' a small town in Punjab, Pakistan in March 1939. He spent his early childhood in the village and moved to culturally rich Lahore, witnessed the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and the events that took place at Lahore. His father Rehmat Khan Tarar opened a small seed store there. Mr Tarar got his schooling from Rang Mehal Mission High School and Muslim Model High School, Lahore. He then got admission in Government College Lahore , a college that owns the credit to polish several intellectuals of Pakistan. In 1950's, he went to London for higher studies. In 1957 he attended the World Youth Festival in Moscow and wrote a book named 'Fakhta' (Dove) on that experience. In 1971 his first travelogue Nikley Teri Talaash Main was published. It led to new trend in Urdu literature. He also became a television actor and from 1988 was for many years a host of PTV's live morning transmission Subuh Bakhair (Good Morning). His unconventional and down to earth style of comparing earned him great popularity. He called himself the 'Cha Cha Jee' of all Pakistani children and soon became known by this title.

Instead of a review, I just want to share a personal memory.

I went for a highway construction project outside my city for the first time and I felt that I have been to this place so many times. I have seen this beauty before. I have embraced this breeze.

But the fact was, it was my first visit. On my way back I called my dad and shared this feeling. He said that have you been to Naltar? I said yes. He said have you took a cup of tea near Rakaposhi. I said yes why?

He said few years ago I gave you a book of Mustansar Hussain on Raka Poshi. And it is such a well written book that every scene engrave itself in the memory lane.

This is the quality of Mustansar Hussain Tatar. When he writes, he takes you to that place on his magic pen.

There are very few people in pakistan who don't know Mustansar Hussain Tararr and his Traveling accounts. He wrote this book in very fascinating way.
During reading this account the reader just wanted to packed up and go to the place he is talking about. This is the way of his writing.
In Particular book he wrote about his journy and stays in hos ways. he wrote very clearly. If reader have not visited those northern areas he will be feel like he is there during read and don't want to come out from such spell.
In this book there is some horrifying things included like non Pakistani elements on Pakistan's mountain to stop foreigners ti visit there were some thing about the murders make me worried and sad while the most famous part is the full moon and rakaposhi.
i decided to buy his other books regarding northern areas. he is one of those who introduced north of Pakistan to world and when he travel to Rakaposhi he was old and no one think that he can climb that toughest mountain who took many lives. he also write about their journey and exitement if his companions as well returning time when there was sense of fearness on Korakoram road and no transport was moving.
he simply write too beautiful no one can explain his writing unless u read and feel it.

اس کتاب میں مصنف نے باربار اسلام کے تقدس کو ٹھیس پہنچانے کی کوشش کی ہے۔ ایک لفظ کو متعدد بار لکھا گیا ہے کہ اسلام کے نام پے مذہبی جنون، کو استعمال کیا گیا ہے۔ کسی بھی غیر مسلم جا مسلم کو بلاوجہ قتل کرنا اسلام میں جائز نہیں، یہ ایک غیر اسلامی فعل ہے۔ اس لیے ایسے قاتلوں کے ساتھ اسلام کو چسپاں کرنا جائز نہیں۔ اپنی اسلام کے خلاف سوچ کو دوسروں پر مت ٹھوسیں۔۔

Who is not aware of Mustansar Hussain tarar and his legendary writings. He wrote many travel literature's (safarnama) and I hope like rakaposhi nagar they all will take you to an embarking journey.
Rakaposhi nagar is my first read of Mustansar Hussain tarar. And I cannot explain in words how much I have enjoyed reading this book. His book feels like you are travelling with him. You are on a journey and you will enjoying every bit of his journey.
This book is about Mustansar Hussain tarar's journey to Rakaposhi. The most toughest of the one because he was old when he went on this journey. And many of his companions thought that he would not reach the destination. But his love for mountains made this journey accomplishable for him.
The most epic and mesmerizing part of this book was about the sight of full moon from the mountainous peak of Rakaposhi. The beauty of this book is that it will make you feel like you are also a companion of this journey.
And Yes Tarar sahab was the first who wrote about the northern areas of Pakistan in his books. So every person who is planning to travel towards the north should read this book and take this book with them on their own journeys.
Last but not the least this book is a tale of a beautiful journey towards Rakaposhi nagar, adventures, happiness, struggles, food and grief. I will not give you the spoilers just read the book and enjoy it yourself.

سفر نامہ نگاری میں مستنصر حسین تارڑ اپنی مثال آپ ہیں، شاید ہی دور حاضر میں اردو میں ان کے پاۓ کا کوئ سفر نامہ نگار ہو، شمال کے خوبصورت خدوخال کو جس طرح مستنصر صاحب نے بیان کیا ہے یہ انہی کا خاصہ ہے.

مستنصر صاحب کے قلم سے دل و دماغ کو آسودگی بخشنے میں کوئی مذائقہ نہیں۔۔
اسی پیش نظر راکا پوشی نگر سے وادی کا کچھ مختصر تعارف آپ کے لیے درج ذیل ہے۔
🔸نگر کی سب سے بڑی پہچان برف پوش پہاڑ راکاپوشی ،ہیسپر، مناپن، برپو گلیشیرز، رش لیک اور دیران ریسٹ ہاؤس ہیں۔
🔸 نگر کی سرحد پہ واقع شاہراہِ قراقرم کا نگر سے منہ پھیر کر وادی ہنزہ سے ملاپ کی مستنصر صاحب نے توجیہہ بیان کی وہ یہ کہ بنیادی منصوبہ کے تحت قراقرم ہائی وے کو وادی نگر میں سےہی گزرنا تھا مگر اہل نگر جن میں نمایاں وہاں کے مذہبی علماء رہے اس بنا پر احتجاج کیا کہ شاہراہِ قراقرم سے ان کے علاقے میں غیر ملکی سیاحت کو فروغ ملے گا ، ان کے گھروں کی بے پردگی ہوگئی، فحاشی کو فروغ ہوگا وغیرہ۔ اس موقع کا فائدہ اٹھاتے اہل ہنزہ نے حکومت وقت سے تعاون کر کے شاہراہِ کا رخ اپنی وادی کی طرف پھیرا یوں وادی ہنزہ خوش حال مستقبل کے ساتھ چین اور پاکستان سے منسلک ہوگئ اور وادی نگر جو حسن اور زرخیزی کے ساتھ، پھلدار درختوں کی بہتات، پانی کی فراوانی اور راکاپوشی جیسے تاج محل کے باوجود بے آسرا اور ہر طرح کی تعلیمی و اقتصادی ترقی سے محروم ہوگئ۔ یہی وجہ رہی کے اب وہاں کے مقامی مستنصر حسین صاحب سے درخواست گزار ہوۓ کہ اپنی تحریروں میں انکی وادی کا ذکر کریں تاکہ یہ خطہ بھی دنیا میں پہچان حاصل کرے اور ترقی کرے۔
🔸وادی نگر کے مناپن گاؤں میں واقع دیران ریسٹ ہاؤس نگر کا واحد ہوٹل؛ ریسٹ ہاؤس سے ملحقہ باغ بہاراں اور باغ گلزاراں؛ ان میں موجود سیب اور خوبانیوں سے بوجھل ہوتی درختوں کی شاخیں ؛ سرخ جواھر نما چیریاں اور غل مچاتے ، گاتے پھرتے پرندے جس انداز میں مستنصر صاحب بیان کر گۓ قابل دید اور قابل رشک ہیں۔
🔸برف سے ڈھکے راکاپوشی پہاڑ کے دل آویز اور دل نشین نظارے ہنزہ کے گاؤں ناصرہ آباد کی بلند ترین سطح سے دیکھنے میں نظر آتے ہیں جہاں سے راکاپوشی کا کوئ حصہ روپوش نہیں رہتا، یہی وجہ کے کچھ لوگ اسے وادی ہنزہ میں سمجھتے مگر اصل میں یہ عظیم سفید تخت وادی نگر میں موجود ، نگر کے گاؤں مناپن میں اس کا بیس کیمپ ہے۔
🔸 یہ تو مختصر تعارف نگر اور راکا پوشی کا اس کتاب کے تعاون سے آپ کے لیے پیش خدمت تھا۔ مگر اس برفانی بلندی کو چوہتر برس کی عمر میں سر کرنے ، اس سفر کے دوران سہی جانے والی مشقتیں، دشواریاں، حولناکیوں سمیت خوبصورتیاں، بچوں کی پکنک، شریک سفر یاروں کی خوش گپیاں،ندی نالے، سیاچن گلاب، گلیشیرز اور برفانی منظر اس سب کی خوبصورتی اور اس سفر کے احساس سے آپ اسی وقت واقف ہو سکتے ہیں جب آپ خود اس کتاب کو مطالعے کا شرف بخشیں

ہماری پسند کی کوئ مٹھائی یا چاکلیٹ ایسی ہوتی ہے جسے ہم اس ڈر سے آہستہ آہستہ کھاتے ہیں کے کہیں جلدی ختم نا ہو جائے۔۔
ایسی ہی مٹھائی کی طرح تھی میرے لیے یہ کتاب

"راکا پوشی نگر"

کہتے ہیں سفر انسان کو بدل دیتا ہے-
لیکن میرے خیال سے بدلنے کے ساتھ ساتھ سفر انسان کو خوبصورت بنا دیتا ہے۔ اور پھر اگر سفر ہو بھی شمال کے بلند و بالا پہاڑوں کا جن پر قدم رکھنے کے لیے بھی ہمت اور مضبوطی درکار ہو تو ایسا سفر خوبصورتی پیدا کرنے کے ساتھ شخصیت میں ایک سحر بھی پیدا کر دیتا ہے۔۔

یہی خوبصورتی اور سحر تارڑ صاحب کے لفظوں میں بھی جھلکتا ہے۔۔ ایسا سحر کے جو آپ کو سخت گرمی میں چلتے ہوئے کولر کے شور سے دور کھینچ کر یخ بستہ اور پرکشش وادیوں کے بیچ لے جاتا ہے۔۔

کیا یہ کہنے کی ضرورت ہے کے تارڑ صاحب کو منظر نگاری اور جزئیات نگاری میں خاص ملکہ حاصل ہے؟ کس خوبصورتی سے وہ شمال، اونچے پہااونچے پہاڑوں، ان پہاڑوں کے بیچ بہنے والی ندیوں پر رات کے اندھیرے میں جھلکتے چاند کے عکس کو بیان کرتے ہیں کے دیکھے بنا ہی ایک سکون سا وجود میں سرایت کر جاتا ہے۔۔

شاید کے کبھی زندگی مجھے بھی ان وادیوں کے بیچ لے جائے اور ان پر نظر پڑتے ہی میری زبان سے تارڑ صاحب کے یہ الفاظ ادا ہوں وہی منزلیں، وہی راستے۔۔۔ دیکھے بھالے اور شناسا پھر بھی دل کو مسرت سے بھر دینے والے

A great travelogue but at times feel repetitive. Overall, an informative and enjoyable read.
The spell mostly woven by Tarrar sahb's words was mostly missing!
