I like fast cars and a stiff drink.
I hate drugs. I can’t stand the idiots who take them and I loathe the bastards who supply them. Drugs cost me my whole world.
I wear many faces; right now I’m Doctor Lucas Callaghan and I’ll be him until I get my revenge.
My real name will be the last words to ever pass their lips.

I hate my name, Aoife Brennan, as soon as people hear it they treat me differently because of my father.
Medical school isn’t my dream, it’s his. But, it’s the least I owe him after everything I’ve done. I’m trying to be a good girl, but even good girls make mistakes.

He’s lying about who he is, she’s kidding herself about who she can be. They’re polar opposites with one very big secret in common.

Please note: SCRUBS is a novella serial. Part One ends on a cliffhanger. 18+ adult content and language.

Scrubs was a weird book. I didn't hate it, but i didn't love it either. Although the beginning was excellent, from early on i found myself losing interest fast. But suddenly that changed.

Sean or Lucas whichever you prefer, is an OK guy, with a good heart, an intriguing past and a formidable plan. But he isn't the bad-ass he so desperately tries to make us all believe. I really liked him until he started acting like a macho James Bond.

Aoife -what a name, i know- is a sweet girl, very responsible, talented and smart, but completely torn apart. Her whole life is divided and when it comes Dr. Lucas, well all hell breaks loose for her. Instinctively she knows there is so much more in there than she cares to admit.

I liked the second half so much more and probably i will read the next part. Aoife and Lucas share chemistry and their friendly banter doesn't make me uncomfortable like it did in the beginning.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- Poor Aoife her art teacher is an asshole.
- I like those two together, but the connection felt forced.
- I liked the ending, cliffhanger and all.

An intriguing, suspenseful story about revenge with a dash of sexiness.
“Revenge is a dish best served cold.”

Lucas Callaghan is just a made up name, but his calling to help others, be it as a doctor or as an undercover cop, is as real as ever. After eight years he’s back in Dublin not just to take the man responsible for distributing drugs and ruining his life out of circulation, he’s also back to exact his revenge. But can he control his feelings long enough to do it?

Aoife Brennan dreams of being an artist but has dedicated her life to become a doctor like her father. Her choice to follow he father’s wishes is becoming increasingly difficult as she’s forced to put on hold her true aspirations and having to face her fear in front of the incredibly sexy new doctor who’s been tasked to evaluate her. They quickly connected making each other feel alive, but they’re also both hiding something. Can their tenuous bond hold and help them when the truth comes out?
“I can’t touch patients because it reminds me of how much I failed my mother.”

This was a quick, fast paced read told from both points of view. The storyline is sexy and suspenseful. We’re introduced to the main characters which I really liked.

Sean (a.k.a. Lucas) tries to be tough, needing to be so in order complete his assignment, but his geniality shines through as he tries to help Aoife even when she’s not directly related with his real mission. Aoife is a nice, responsible girl whose life is divided between her loyalty to her father and her passion for art which is punctuated with Luca’s appearance in her life. Although sparks fly between them, I felt their connection too quick and a bit forced.

The twist that left this installment in a cliffhanger is what left me extremely interested and intrigued. I can’t wait to read what comes next and see what the author has in store as this is part one in serial novella.

This was a really intense book. The story started really nicely with a fantastic prologue. Then it came to today and everything was a bit confusing in the beginning but soon enough everything made sense. So, Lucas is out for revenge! The plot was moving fast enough with a few surprises in the way. The book was written by dual POV and it was well done. The writing was quite direct and strong.

Aoife is a strong heroine who tries not to disappoint anyone. She wants to prove herself without the assistance of anyone. I liked her and her actions. When the moment called for it, she stood up for herself!

Lucas is a mystery man. He has to play a part but he actually plays the self he had lost. I know I don’t make sense that this was the feeling I’ve got from him. I liked him a lot. He cared more than he wanted to show.

Both of the heroes are intense and strong and have secrets. I loved their interactions! They were full tension!

Somewhere, in the last 5 pages, nothing was making sense to me. I couldn't understand anything that was happening. That's why the book lost a star from me. The end was kind of mystery and left me with a huge question mark!!!! A cliffhanger!! Although I was warned about it, I still need answers immediately!!

I definitely recommend this book to everyone who likes an intense, bit dark and mysterious book.

Wow, this book! I was on a rollercoaster ride of emotions fo sho!! I have no idea how to do this review without ruining it for you fabulous people, so I'm going to talk based on how I reacted through out the book.

This is the story of dr. Lucas and his quest for revenge. You see dr Lucas Callaghan has lost someone new and dear to him and he will not rest until vengeance is his. He doesn't care what happens to him afterwards, just as long as he gets his just dessert. That is until he meets a sweet and charming med school student that he can't seem to stay away from. Aoife is dealing with her own demons and issues and can't seem to find the path she should be on. She finds herself doing all the wrong things for her father. She wants to make him proud and make his wishes come true, only problem is they are not how own hopes and dreams

This story had so many twists and turns and I never saw the ending coming. I mean I was completely thrown for a loop with that ending!!! I kept trying to swipe my kindle to the right in hopes that there would be another chapter, and page, he'll one more sentence!! I'm chomping at the bit for part two and it can not get here soon enough. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery and lots of twists and turns involving one hell of a hot doctor.

Good but hate the cliffhanger

Why,why, why the cliffhanger!!! I was just enjoying it and was hoping that I would get more information of why Lucas aka Sean is looking into Morgan but also the change of career too. Since he's a hot doc and a heartbroken one too, I'll forgive him. I need some more of Lucas so I'm off to see when part two is coming. I NEED MORE!!

Doctor Lucas Callaghan is back in Dublin after eight years. His job as an undercover cop has led him back to the place where his life changed forever, the night he lost his fiance. He's set on getting his revenge, but when student Aoife Brennan catches his eye, it tests his drive for revenge and all he thought he knew. Aoife is going to medical school for her father, but what she really wants to be is an artist. Straddling the thin line between the two, Dr. Callaghan shakes up everything she thinks she knows. However, she doesn't know his secret yet, no one does.

I went into this book knowing it was a novella series, I read all the warnings about it from the author in advance, but I was really looking forward to it. Come on, a book about a (handsome) undercover cop going back to his old stomping grounds as a doctor to exact his revenge? Oh yea, that's my kind of book. Unfortunately, there's just no personality to this book. The characters fell flat for me and the chemistry was just bland. I really wanted to like Sean/Lucas, I enjoyed his role of cop playing arrogant doctor, especially with the hidden past. Aoife was just a conundrum of personalities all tied together, I couldn't explain her if I tried. Their chemistry was nothing for me, and although their coming together was written really well, I felt like it just happened out of no where. On top of that, the book moves at an extremely slow pace. For a novella, I felt like we jumped around a lot and covered almost too much ground, but not enough to actually proceed forward in the book. The eight days we covered sure felt a lot like three.

The revenge plot of this book is the saving grace, I don't fully understand what's going on here considering we have a cop exacting the revenge, but hey, I was hooked to it. If we had been given a bit more of the revenge plot line, I might have bumped this to 3 stars. That said, the cliffhanger is a good one, I know I can't believe I'm saying that, but it totally puts a twist in what little we do know. I'm not sure I will hang around for the future books, but I think this book could easily be something that just wasn't my cup of tea and would be perfect for another reader.

""4"" Mysterious stars

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review

A really enjoyable story with fast plot and suspense!!! Scrubs is the first part of the series and even though it had few pages the author succeeded to introduce us well enough to the characters and the storyline.

Lucas Callaghan (not his real name) is a doctor who seeks revenge against the man who deprived his girlfriend from his life eight years ago. The author hasn't revealed what really happened..i guess we'll learn it in the next parts. Lucas is full of secrets and deluged by mystery. You can feel his sadness from his loss and he doesn't open himself to new emotions even though deep inside he wants it.

Aoife Brennan is a medical student, that is something her father wants and she hasn't object to him.
Her heart belongs to art from this you can see the artistic temper and her free spirit. I like her attitude and the way she speaks to him, she's bold with sassy mouth and she speaks truths that he is unable to hear.

As i said we don't have many information about what really happen besides the fact of seeking revenge and the man who is responsible we also have a few hints i would say about Lucas' true identity. Their relation develops steady, there is an attraction but they don't give in easily especially Lucas. Apart from the great chemistry, they are bold and fun characters to read.

I really looking forward for the next part, the end of the first was a big cliffhanger.

ARC kindly provided by Xpresso Book Tours, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This is part 1 of a novella serial by Brooke Harris. It tells us the story of Lucas who lost his fiancé 8 years ago (overdosed). He loved her very much and wants to make the responsible ones pay! He returns to Dublin with a new identity to find revenge. To achieve this he goes undercover as a doctor in the university hospital. He feels a strong attraction to 1 of the students, Aoife. She makes him feel alive again. Aoife is learning to be a doctor (more for her father than herself) but she’s also following arts classes because that is her passion. Aoife lost her mother 3 years ago. The report on her mothers’ death seems incorrect. Will Lucas be able to make the ones responsible for the death of his fiancé pay? Is there a link with the death of Aoife’s mom? Was it really an accident or not? Will Lucas and Aoife get a HEA? I guess we’ll read that in the next instalment…

I liked the story but, like it usually is with novella’s, it was a little bit short to really get into it and feel connected with the characters. I’m looking forward to read more!

Have you people seen the delicious cover? I tried to resist okay. But in the end the temptation won over! :-P So, Scrubs is actually a novella where the story will be be revealed in a few parts. It's full of suspense with a set of pretty great character which made it a fun read.

Lucas is working undercover to catch one of the biggest drugs mafia who is also responsible for the death of his fiancé eight years ago. He returns to his hometown with a new identity to take revenge. There he meets Aoife, a student in the hospital, where he starts working. Their chemistry is undeniable. Lucas knows he should focus only on his work but he's unable to stay away from her. But can they really be together when so much is at stake?

I really enjoyed the plot, it was fast paced and laced with suspense throughout the book. Lucas is not his real name but he took that name for this mission. He has only one motto, to take revenge for his fiancé death whom he loved very much. Not much is given away in this book, I guess we'll learn more as we proceed in this series. But despite this fact, the author managed to portray the characters and the storyline well enough. I liked Aoife's character. She’s smart and sassy. Yet she doesn't have much freedom about her choice. She’s forced to study to become a doctor because of his father when clearly her heart belongs to art just like her mother. There's a mystery about her mother's death as well. And I feel it might be connected somehow to Lucas's case. Well I guess I have to wait for a bit to learn that.

Nonetheless, I loved their sizzling chemistry. Lucas hasn't been with anyone in eight years after his fiancé death and for the first time after meeting Aoife, he begins to feel something. Their relationship (if you can call that) grows steadily and they both bring out a different part of themselves but the question remains, can an actual relationship be possible between them?

Overall, Scrubs was a sexy read and a fantastic start to a series. I throughly enjoyed this book, it was filled with drama and suspense and I couldn't wait to learn that what was going to happen next. I loved the romance between Lucas and Aoife . The mysterious aspect was well maintained and I can't wait to read the next installment, specially after how it ended with that cliffhanger!

Recommend it?

OMG! I have just finished this and wanted to get my thoughts out there while its fresh in my mind! I adored the book No Kiss Goodbye by this authors alter ego Janelle Brooke Harris which I raved about after being recommended it by fellow reviewers and members of THE Book Club over on Facebook. So an offer from the author herself to read an ARC was way too good to pass up!
Yes this is a novella and yes it is left on a cliffhanger without all the threads coming together or the whole back story being explained but.... wow, I loved this!
Doctor turned undercover cop Lucas Callaghan is back in the small town near Dublin where 8 years ago he lost Vicky, his fiancee to an overdose. Without the love of his life Lucas has been lost and all he can think of is revenge on the Mr Big who caused her death. But he is about to meet sweet adorable Aoife, a medical student who has art as her true passion in life. Everything Lucas believes in is about to be tested!
Lucas comes across as a man possessed by revenge, a bad boy with no regard for anyone or anything. I can't wait to find out more in part 2 as there is waaaaay more to Vickys death than we have been told so far! And Aoife? Loved her vulnerability but with her sassy edge and artistic temperament she is a force to be reckoned with I think!
Brooke Harris writes with a humour that is often missing in this type of erotic suspense. And suspended we are!! Physically can't wait for part 2 but in the meantime I have seen there's the Harte trilogy on Amazon so will download that while I wait for more Lucas and Aoife!

Thank you to Netgalley for a chance to read this ARC copu in return for an honest review.

Sean aka Dr Lucas Callaghan is a doctor turned cop in this the first novella of a series.
Lucas goes back to his days as a doctor but undercover in order to get the evidence needed to take down Alistair Morgan, he's the big cheese in the area along with his small army of minions to do his bidding, he's a feared man.
Aoife is a med student, the two meet as Lucas tries to help her drunk friend, the tension between the two is obvious and as he has to help tutor Aoife it becomes a real struggle to keep his mind on his work.

A very easy and good read which left me with so many questions. Understandably as this is the first of a series you feel as if you're hanging mid air awaiting the next installment...I will be reading the following books because I really need to know what happens next.

I can honestly say Scrubs is off to a good start,I’m mildly entertained and will continue to read the series. While cliffhangers normally put me in that gimme gimme mold this one not so much maybe because I was hoping for a jaw dropping and clutch my pearls moments. Again I was very much entertained while reading this rather quick series.

Sean/Lucas loses his fiancee while he was in med school, of course he blames himself and his life is thrown off course. His new profession is very much of course from being a doctor and now he’s undercover at his old school, but I don’t know why. He’s also looking into the man that basically runs the town and again I don’t know why. These are a few things I have to know and Brooke’s writing was intriguing enough to keep me hooked for the answers. While on this assignment a young woman catches his attention is a way he never expected.

It doesn’t take long for him to learn while posing as a professor she a student. Aoife, sadly is wasting her time trying to become a doctor when her heart is full of art. Struggling with trying to please her father, who happens to be a very prominent doctor, she finds herself having to chose between loyalty and love. Thankfully Aoife doesn’t have one of those entitled attitudes which makes her so enjoyable. She actually wants to help people and she’s seems quite geniue in her approach.

Scrubs is told with a dual POV. Brooke’s writing is fast pace intriguing, but at the same time you feel like you weren’t given enough to leave you with a hanger. I so happen to crave that feeling. Fingers crossed when the second installment is released not only will some questions be answered, but I’m left with a hangover. I’m still not sure how I feel about the ending while it was a cliffhanger it felt more so like the end of a scene. Yes I have a ton why and who questions that I would love to know. Thank you Brooke for introducing me to your work and currently I’m patiently waiting for this story to unravel and the pieces to fall in order.

I am so beyond honored that I got to review this book. From the moment I laid eyes on the sexy-ass cover I was curious. I couldn't wait for the tour to swing round my way so I could sign up to review. I checked my email several times waiting for my copy to arrive and finally it did.

If I could, I would give Scrubs a perfect 10! The writing was fun and gripping, the flawed characters were so well written that I loved them with a passion. I read this book all in one go, and then I had to email the author and let her know I am hanging on the edge of a cliff waiting for Scrubs part 2. I just have to know how this story ends.

The pacing was wonderful, there were no boring unnecessary details, and every scene taught me something about the characters that helped advance the story. I loved the dialogues between all of the characters and man oh man Lucas/Sean had me going from day one; such a complex, smart, well thought out character. Even the females were not the helpless little waifs that you read about in most romance novels. The lead female can certainly hold her own against Dr. Lucas Callaghan.

There were some OMG moments and moments that had me laughing out loud, along with more than a few "did he/she really say that?" I had to go back and read it again. Yep they went there. I even enjoyed the hot intimate scenes; it was not over the top or too much unnecessary descriptions. I loved the build up leading to it. Hats off Ms. Brooke, I'm hooked on Scrubs.

*** ARC granted in exchange for an honest review ***

I received  Scrubs as an ARC via Netgalley, and since the cover and the title reminded me of the Life or Death series by Isobel Irons, I thought I might as well give it a go.

What I didn't know was that this book is actually the first book in a series , a fact the author clearly states at the beginning of the book. I know some people do not like novellas (and I kind of have the same problem) but  Scrubs wasn't the kind of novella out of which you get absolutely nothing, and which ends in a huge cliffhanger.

In this "pilot", we learn about Sean, who used to be a doctor until his fiancé died from an overdose 8 years ago. Now, he is back in Dublin where it all happened, but under the name Lucas Callaghan, because he has actually become a cop and is now working first hand and undercover on a case that might be directly linked to his fiancé's death.

Ironically, his fake identity is the one of a doctor/professor, which is a foreign and rather awkward situation for him. One of his students, Aoife Brennan, piques his interest - both for the case's sake, and for his own personal sake. Aoife is torn between both a medical career and an art career, and for some reason, she can't pursue either. Lucas spots the turmoil in her and succumbs to his desperate need to get closer to her, despite a behaviour that may let people think otherwise.
"I don't scare easily, but right now, I'm terrified. I'm afraid I'll fall for this girl, and I won't be strong enough to walk away."

I guess this is as much as I can say for now as far as the story goes. The characters were interesting, to say the least, especially Lucas' character: he acts like a real jerk sometimes, but it seems to be a coping mechanism for him to detach himself from his past, were he used to be ever the gentleman.
"Being around her reminds me of the man I used to be. That man was polite, gentle, and knew how to love. He was human."

The writing - a dual first-POV style - was fine and I must say the whole plot got me intrigued, even though it is slightly weird. But I will chalk it up to the fact that most things are still uncovered. One thing is for sure though, Scrubs is definitely "different". But I know enough to say that I would be tempted to read the next book in the series - I wonder how many parts this serial novella will actually have, though!

Review originally posted on my blog: I Heart Fictional People

INITIAL THOUGHTS

This probably doesn’t need an explanation. I mean, look at that cover. Hot doctor…with a gun. What does a doctor need with a gun? I was definitely intrigued. And the synopsis really got me. I just had to know Lucas’ story and what has him needing revenge. I had to read this one. It sounded SO good.

WHAT I LIKED

The beginning. Wow. Now that is how you introduce a story. The prologue and first chapter had me in tears and on the edge of my seat at the same time. It’s not easy to make me cry within 3 pages. So, kudos to the author for that! Plus, there was no way that I was NOT going to read this after reading the prologue. I was committed and had to know what happened after that.

Lucas/Sean. I really liked him. I felt for him, and I wanted him to get his revenge so bad. He does a complete 180 after this tragedy that happens to him, and he turns into this angry, aggressive, cocky man with only one goal in mind: make them pay. But you get this glimpse of the real him sometimes. It’s sad! I got attached to this guy. He has obviously been suffering for so long. I just wanted him to be happy! And I wanted to give him a hug!

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER

Aoife’s name. This may sound like a minor issue, but it irritated me every time I had to read it. I had absolutely no idea how to pronounce it. Eventually, about halfway in, I just had to Google it. I was so far off from the real pronunciation. And even after I knew how to say it, I would hesitate every time her name came up. It actually distracted me from enjoying the story.

Connection felt rushed/forced. I really didn’t feel the connection between Lucas and Aoife. Maybe it was because the book was only about 100 pages. Usually, 100 pages in is when the characters are just falling for each other. So, for me, it happened way too fast, and it wasn’t believable.

The end. Yes, I know it’s just the first part of a series and there is a clear warning at the opening of the book, but the end just came out of nowhere. There was zero closure. I’m a fan of cliffhangers, but this one just didn’t work for me.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This is a tough one for me. I liked it. I loved the main character. A lot of it just felt rushed. I would’ve liked more in-depth stuff. More details. More background information. Just more! So, I’m kind of caught in the middle, which is why I gave it 3 hearts. But I’m curious as to where the story goes, so I will check out the next part.

I received this book for free through NetGalley in return for my honest opinion.

"DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!!" Is what I said in my head when I got to the cliffhanger. I've seen in all sorts of places that this serial novella has a cliffhanger at the end. While it's nice to have been announced previously, I didn't find the cliffhanger to be that bad. I have been left with WAY worse cliffhangers when finishing up a book.

This is a fairly short novella. Depending on your reading speed, you can have the entire novella read within an hour or two. Because it's so short, you don't really have much time to get to know the characters or what's really going on in the story.

It's a dual POV story. You follow Sean/Lucas, a guy who you quickly learn is still battling grief and anger over the loss of someone eight years earlier. He was in med school at the time, but when the story picks up he's an undercover cop or agent trying to take down a murderer and a drug dealer. It's not the strongest set up, as they wouldn't let the guy out in the field in his condition in real life, but hey if you are reading this type of story being 100% realistic isn't the goal. Your usually reading it for the action, mystery, and steamy romance.

The other character you follow is Aoife. She is a med student who is working to prove herself to her brilliant (you are told) medical doctor, who expects her to live up to her expectations. At the same time she wants to be an artist like the mother she lost. The description mentions that everyone treats her differently as soon as they hear her name, which is not the case. Lucan had to be specifically told who she was even after he knew her entire name, so she must not be that well known.

Anyways, it's a very short novella. The story barely gets going before you are at the end. And here's where we get to the part that bugs me. Everywhere it's mentioned repeatedly that this is a serial novella, but no where can I find out how many novellas are going to be included with this story in the end or how often they will be released. Personally, I feel that if you are going to release a book as serial novellas you need to have the entire thing written first AND you need a plan to release them AND state it up from, like one new section will be released per week or per month. If you don't keep the parts coming you won't keep the readers coming.

Overall, I liked the book okay. It was a nice quick read, but I don't feel like I can really accurately access the story until I know more of it. As it stands I may or may not read more novellas in this series.

I like fast cars, beautiful women and great sex.

Boy, this is a hard book to review. The author tells you before you begin the story that this is a serial book, so this really isn't a book. It's more like an episode, for lack of a better word. We're introduced to Aoife, a medical student who isn't much interested in medicine, and Dr. Lucas Callaghan, who isn't really Lucas Callaghan. Confused? So am I. But because this is a mystery/thriller, you're supposed to be confused. And because this isn't a complete novel, we don't really get any answers.

What we do get is the introduction between the two characters and their chemistry, which is pretty hot, I must say. Lucas has a beef with somebody. He wants revenge, but we don't really know for what, but odds are it's related to his pregnant fiance who died from an overdose. Because of the tragedy, he doesn't practice medicine anymore, but he is posing as a professor.

Aoife is obligated to go to medical school. Her father's influence pretty much "guarantees" her success, even though she halfheartedly goes to class. Her true passion is her art, which is where she shows her promise. Her teachers claim her to be a prodigy.

I'm afraid that's all I can really say about the Aoife and Lucas without retelling you the whole story. Like I said, it's a hard book to review, since it's just the set up of a promising story line. I can't wait to see what the next installment brings to the table.

This is the first book I've read by the author and I wasn't disappointed. This is book one in the series and there is a major cliffhanger at the end. This is a quick read but you do get a lot out of it. The author did an amazing job on keeping you hooked on the story and now all I can say is I need the next book in the series.

Lucas (made up name) is back in the town he grew up in after becoming a cop. He was a doctor eight years ago but due to a tragedy he decided to become a cop. When he returns to his home town, he goes undercover to catch the bad guys. He wants his revenge on the people responsible for what happened eight years ago. Lucas meets Aoife one night and that ended up turning bad but the next day he sees her again and he has no choice but to get to know her better. Lucas now can't stop thinking of Aoife and he has to be around her.

Aoife is in college and she takes two majors, premed and art. She doesn't do what she really wants to do because she is trying to please her father instead of doing what makes her happy. Her passion is art but due to her father, she continues the medical field. She meets Lucas one night and she got to see a side of him that wasn't pleasant but the next day things are different. Aoife shouldn't feel the way she does about Lucas but she also can't stop it.

I loved that you get both of their POV's and I felt a connection to both of the characters. I love how you stay on your toes and try to figure out exactly what happened and what's going to happen. The suspense will get to you but it makes it worth it. The chemistry between the two is hot & steamy. A connection starts to form between the two but neither one of them will open up to it.

Great job to the author. I highly recommend.

Thank you Netgalley for the copy in exchange for my honest review!

Scrubs is part one of a serial novella. It follows the story of Aoife and Lucas. Aoife is a med student trying to follow her fathers dream for her to become an affluent doctor like he is. Lucas, a former doctor, now undercover cop, is seeking revenge against a man who essentially turned his life upside down 8 years prior. But there's something about Aoife that Lucas just can't resist, and after she turns his world upside down, his job may be in jeopardy along with his heart.

I really enjoyed this novella, though it was over way to fast. I definitely can't wait to continue reading Aoife and Lucas's story. I loved that it was told from both their perspectives. I thoroughly enjoy both characters as well and I can't wait to see how they develop over the series. I loved that there was a little bit of suspense because you know that things very well may explode and you can't help but just wait and wonder when the other shoe will drop. I felt the storyline was good and again I can't wait to read more. The characters have wonderful chemistry, physical and emotional (even if Lucas probably doesn't want to admit it). Overall this was a fast, great read and I will be watching for the next in the series. I definitely recommend!

I was given this ARC in exchange of an honest review.

I don´t know really what to say about this book. It was told in a nice way and fast paced but it raise a lot of questions and doesn't answer not even one.
On the bright side is a short story, but it ends on a cliffhanger what means that the whole story could have been told in one book and we would be saved of the wait for the next one so we know WTH is going on

I couldn't relate with the characters properly, I think it was to short of a story, or to much information for a short story and no answers at all.

After an argument essentially cost him the life of his fiancee, Sean decides he's going to avenge Victoria's death. The guilt he has over the accident drives him throughout this part of the story. Part of his cover has him utilizing his 'real' job as a doctor, but he's now wearing the hat of Lucas Callaghan. When he meets Aofie, though, his guilt and desires start to inter-warp, and as expected, he doesn't exactly handle it well. Beyond Sean/Lucas's guilt, Aofie has her own misgivings in life and with them, she holds her art/paintings close to heart.

For the record, I love Irish/Gaelic names. I have a character coming (someday) who is Niamh -- because it's so much more fun than Neve. And like Niamh, I think Aofie is so much more fun than Ava. While Aofie herself doesn't enjoy her name, I love it.

The initial emotion in this book is definitely gripping. The book kind of sort of weans off the thrill, but I imagine as the serial continues it will fluctuate. The emotion comes back full-force at the end, but with it comes questions for the next part. A decent beginning, but perhaps one of those serials that would be better off in full-book form.

This story follow Sean aka Lucas who previously was a doctor and
now is an undercover cop trying to catch some big fishes.
And how the guy turns a cop?? Something bad happen to him and now
he want to make them pay.

The mystery thing has various little situations and no one is good
and everyone has a little dirty secret.

Here we have a major POV of the male and I really like him but we
think his just with his lame escuse suffering from something of his
past but hey hey the guy has some layers and I was a little afraid what
he did.

Aoife what hell of name is this?? HAHAHAHA
So apparently she is studying medicine but hey its not clear with
want to be a doctor was just because of her father or that she
just want follow her mom's job.........

As the two characters I felt nothing towards them they were just
talking about their lives and BOOOM atraction?????? AND SEX on the wall??
That was a little bit quickly btw them.....well I did not like 'cause
they were just horny.

That FUCKING ENDING"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suspense, revenge, hurt and ardent passion. When combined with a clever plot and a fantastic narrative, the story is good enough not to pause for anything.

The way the author writes made me feel every bit of sadness, pain and desire that turned the characters alive. She's created a man torn by lost love and a hunger for revenge while at the same time he's denying himself any glimpse of hope. And then there is that vibrant woman who can melt his inner demons against his will.

I was really gripped by the mysterious mission Lucas is in after the two men responsible for many crimes. The prologue was superbly written and heartfelt thanks to a simple yet strong sensibility.

Aoife is a medical student with a heart for art and she's in the middle of his investigation. Their encounters are tense, pulsing with smart dialogues and hot chemistry. I loved the way they exploded together in a mess of sensuality and broken feelings.

This is a fantastic first part of a series I'm excited to keep reading.

This book was kind of a love and hate for me. Don’t get me wrong I lied it but it was just okay. I found it a bit boring but it picked after a couple chapters.
We meet Dr. Lucas Callaghan who is not a real doctor at all its all just a cover to get his revenge who cost him is loved one. He is a man of secrets and depressed oh so sad as the author makes you feel his feelings. Okay the female lead her name was very unique I can see why she hates it but it’s a cool name nonetheless. Aoife Brennan is trying to become her father but in realty she is a true artist at heart. She is a people pleaser does not like to disappoint. Oh but she can stand toe to toe with Dr. Callaghan it was fun to see.
Over all it was a quick read even though it was a bit dull early on. When they both meet its like automatic sparks fly and the sexual tension is off the charts. Can he finish what he was set out to do? Warning the cliffhanger will leave you scratching your head I know I was.

Scrubs is the first installment of a new serial. Lucas, a former doctor turned undercover cop, is on assignment back in his hometown in Ireland. He's there to build a case and take down the man he blames for ruining his life. Aoife is a med student and promising artist. She is trying to follow her passion while living up to familial expectation and dealing with serious trauma in her past. Lucas should really never have crossed paths with her, but now that he has... Can he resist the pull he finally feels again?

This was a quick read, and I definitely can't wait to read the second installment in the serial. I liked that the alternating POV kept the reader privy to things that each of the main characters is ignorant of. I also enjoyed the cliffhanger ending and can't wait to see where that little bomb leads...

Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review........

Gorgeous Love Story. This one worked for me.
Its Lucas and Aoife's story. Despite it ending on a cliffy !!!! *chokes in pain* !!. I loved the whole Dr/policeman thing seeking revenge meeting the spirited yet soft Aoife. I am a sucker for a story line where either our H or h gets their chance at their HEA.

I found the dialogue funny but with moments of insight and intrigue. The pace worked and I enjoyed reading about the main characters, soooooo yup, all round thumbs up. It gets 4 shiny ones as mentioned because it ends on a cliffy. However I sure as hell will be waiting for the next installment !!!

Well done Brooke and many thanks Netgalley for this opportunity xx

Later peeps xxx

So I have to start with my questions, is there a connection to the mother and the fiancé? I wish I felt a little more connected with the characters. It seemed like this could really get good, but it is like reading an entire novella of just an introduction. I will probably read the rest just because that is my weakness, having to know what is in store, and I am truly hoping I get more of a dramatic sequence, but for me this one just missed the mark, maybe. I am on the fence.

I absolutely loved this book! The characters were lovable and humorous (and sexy), so it wasn't hard to really get into the book. I'm giving it a four star rating due to the confusing beginning. I understand that the book is meant to be a periodical, so its short and there a lot of unanswered questions at the end of the first installment. However, it should have been a little clearer at the beginning. I was so lost at first that I nearly gave up after the first three chapters (I'm SO glad I didn't though).
