Owen’s an ex-Army bodyguard for a beautiful gaming heiress… and a man with a secret. Ex-Army Texas boy Owen Harding fears only one thing—his inner beast. A year in Agent Smith’s experimental cages has changed his wolf into something monstrous. But a hate group is hunting the Wilding pack, so Owen’s serving again, this time as bodyguard. If only the girl he’s protecting wasn’t so damn sexy… and completely off limits.
Nova Wilding’s father was assassinated, leaving her a gaming company to run, a new game to release, and a pack full of wolves who want her for a mate… including a beta who’s determined to have Nova and her company. When a bomb goes off in her car, Nova finds herself in her sexy bodyguard’s arms… but he’s absolutely the wrong man at the wrong time.
While Nova fights to keep her gaming company afloat, and Owen fights to keep her alive, the hate group circles closer and closer… until they both find that falling in love might be the most dangerous game of all.
WILD GAME is a complete novel with HEA, the first in the Wilding Pack Wolves series. All stories are standalone, but for maximum reader enjoyment, start with the Riverwise Private Security trilogy.
Nova's father, the leader of their pack, was murdered by a group of shifter haters. An anonymous man posts videos on the web, inciting fear and hatred of all shifters. He breeds animosity and encourages people to not only hunt them down, but to kill them. He found the names and locations of members of Nova and Owen's packs and leaked it to further his cause. Nova is in just as much danger as her father was and Owen is the man determined to protect her. Sparks fly and chemistry abounds, and while these two easily fall in love, Nova is supposed to find a mate within her own pack and Owen believes he isn't destined to have a mate. Forced experimentation made him into an unknown entity. He doesn't trust his animal and has no idea what he'd become if he were to shift. How can he put that on someone else? And what will he do when he's left with no choice?
Although it was immediately obvious that many of these characters shared a history I wasn't clued in on because I haven't read their stories yet, I wasn't lost when reading this. Kudos to the author for making this first book of a new series stand on its own. The undercurrent of suspenseful tension will probably run its course through the other books of the series, but at least Owen and Nova's story felt like their own. I'll definitely be reading on!
2 stars - A ‘so so’ read with one likeable character, but massively let down by a tired mysoginistic trope. The first of Alisa Woods’ Wilding Pack Wolves, which is a direct spin off from (and contains spoilers for the characters of) her previous shifter trilogy the River Pack Wolves, which begins with Jaxson. Incidentally,I also gave ‘Jaxson’ a two star review and can barely remember it, even though I only listened to it on audible last year. I didn’t read the rest of the trilogy, I suspect that will be the case again here.
This review would have been a 1 star, but the writing style isn’t bad, and maybe it’s just that I’ve read some shockers of late that I feel the need to award a star for basic grammar, and I listened to the audio, so couldn’t pick up any glaring proofing errors. The author has a fairly good pace through what is a somewhat pedestrian and mysoginistic trope filled plot - more of that in the spoiler. Owen, the male protagonist is a fairly likeable character, but his counterpoint, Nova, bugged the hell out of me - to quote Ron Weasley “She needs to get her priorities sorted”. How someone can put the launch of a new game over their own personal safety, or give up a beloved lover who puts her first to protect the abstract concept of a game, a business and group of people who seemingly don’t care about any of her needs defies my logic. I also found the two protagonists to be a bit wishy-washy and flip-floppy in their attitudes to each other. They seemed to vacillate wildly in their thinking from one para to the next at times. This made them seem less realistic and believable.
My main gripe with this book and the reason it goes on my returned shelf, is because it falls into tired and lazy misogynistic tropes to fuel a lackisdasical plot. Here’s my Take on the synopsis that demonstrates how it perfectly falls into all the tired cliches I don’t understand why so many people enjoy reading.
I’m so tired of shifter novels that imbue alpha males with all the power and say over their females and yet the authors often still try to depict the heroines in these situations as ‘put upon feminists’. It just doesn’t work, it’s like trying to write a story about a prostitute who despite her profession is actually a virgin, the two are pretty much mutually exclusive. Can’t we have more balanced power sharing, or give them some other powers, or quick minds with a dose of real courage. For example D.B. Reynolds manages to have some kick ass female humans who by their intelligence, skills and courage are able to hold their own in the world of vampires who are much more physically and magically powerful than them. It doesn’t get better than the dynamic between Cyn and Raphael.
This is just a lazy way to set the women up to a be in situations where they can’t possibly help themselves and need to be rescued and makes a mockery of any feminist and independent thought and intelligence the author has tried to ham fist into their character descriptions.
On the audio narration, Owens’s drawl was a bit too much of a ‘good ole boy’, but generally it wasn’t too bad.
So 2 stars, my advice, avoid unless you like this style and/or you wish to get riled up and yell at a terrible book. Personally I’d recommend you read or listen to a book about well rounded female characters in paranormal romances, such as Raphael.
This was awesome, full of intrigue, love, hate, torture, and so much more. This book will hold your attention from beginning to end, you won't even want to take a bathroom break. There is a love triangle, and you're not quite sure who Nova the main female character will end up with, will it be Owen or Brad? Owen has a deep dark secret that comes out, but will it help or hurt his chances to win Nova? Brad on the other hand was Nova's, fathers choice for her before he passed. There are two possibly more very deranged wolf hunters, that give the wolves much misery, and heart ache. I can't even describe how good this book was, I highly recommend reading it. I know I will be reading this series. This is the first book in the series of five books, however they can be read as a series or on their own. Enjoy I know I did :)
I really enjoyed this shifter romance. The paranormal part of the book was downplayed and subtle. It focused more on the romance and the business/mystery aspect. All good things to put into a paranormal novel. I have noticed these kinds of books focus on the magic of the characters more often as part of the plot rather than a non-magic plot. It was nice to see them both incorporated so well in this book.
Owen was your standard alpha wolf. Except he wasn’t the alpha of his pack. I loved the background we have on him, it really helped to give a idea of why he was so concerned with shifting and control over his wolf. And his reasoning as to why he thought he couldn’t take a mate. He had massive protective instincts that sometimes overrode his rational side. He was also caring towards his charge and I don’t just mean in bed. 😉 Her safety superseded his lust. I liked that. And he wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable to Nova about how he felt about her, even if he thought it was temporary. He deferred to her in almost every aspect of their romance and her protection. And it came off as pretty sexy.
Nova tried to be all strong and stubborn but it really hid the fact that she was very much afraid for her life. She had some communication issues that worked against her a bit but she finally got her head out of her ass by the end. I think she was a bit emotionally immature for my tastes but her business savvy helped her to seem more sophisticated.
This book had some great action and I loved the military background of the bodyguards. We never do find out who is responsible for her fathers assassination but it was nice to have some closure with regards to her business and her pack’s stability, at least for the time being. It is the first in the series after all. 🙂
Ever since I picked up Alisa Woods her River Pack series I've been a fan of her books, she writes paranormal romances so well and I was happy to start her Wilding Pack series now. This series is a spin-off from her River Pack series and in some ways it feels like a direct continuation of the previous series, but in other ways I think it could work as a standalone as well as everything you need to know to follow this book gets mentioned here. I still would recommend to start with the River pack series as then you know a bit more about one of the main characters and some of the side characters.
At the end of Jared the plot line for this series got set-up and here we get to see what exactly this means for the Wilding Pack. A person who calls himself the Wolf Hunter is encouraging people to hunt wolves and kill them. All the personal information of the Wilding Pack wolves has been posted online. It's quite nasty and we get to see how this impacts wolves everywhere. Nova her father has been killed and Nova is probably next on the list. Owen, who we met in the River series already, has been assigned as her body guard to keep her safe. The Wolf Hunter plot line seems to be a set-up for the overarching plot line of this series and adds a bit of a suspense element to the series. But each book also has it's own and the ending of this book nicely wraps a few things up while also leaving some things open for the rest of the series.
Nova is quite stubborn and even with the treat she wants to continue on like normal with the planned release of her upcoming game. She is afraid, but does her best not to show it, she doesn't want to let the Wolf Hunter see that he's getting to her. I liked that she was a game developer and it's obvious the author knows what she's talking about as all the talk about the game felt realistic to me as a casual gamer. I thought it was a nice touch. Nova has more problems than just the wolf hunter, with her father dead she is expected to choose a mate and lead the pack. She is torn between what's best for the company and what she really wants. She wants to continue the company how her father wanted, but to do that she has to keep the pack intact.
Owen has been through a lot of difficult stuff and we got to see some of that in the River series. I liked that we got to see his story in this book. He is afraid to shift as he isn't sure what he would turn into. Both characters have their own conflict and issues that stood between them and I enjoyed seeing how they worked through it. I liked Owen and Nova together, they had a lot of chemistry and even though there was a lot standing in their way, it was obvious they belonged together.
It also was fun to see some characters again from the River Pack series, mostly Noah and Jace. And it seems Noah his story is next. All these books have a similar set-up, but I don't mind as each book is still a lot of fun to read even when you can predict the broad lines. And the details really make these books shine. The characters really come alive and each book is well written and after finishing this one, I just hope I can read the next book soon.
To summarize: I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this author to people who like a good paranormal romance book with a bit of suspense thrown in. This series is a spin-off from the River Pack series and while I do think it's best to read that first, it can also be read as standalone. One of the main characters Owen was already introduced in the River Pack series and I liked getting to see his story. There's someone out there who encourages people to act against wolves and it's a difficult time to be a wolf. I liked Nova and Owen together, both were fun characters to read about and they were great together. I also liked how Nova was a game developer. It was fun to see some characters from the River Pack series again. There is an overarching plot line for the series introduced in this one, but this book still has a good ending where the main plot lines for this books are wrapped up while leaving enough open for the rest of the series. All in all is this a great start of the Wilding Pack series!
This continues on from the thrilling River Pack Wolves paranormal saga as the Wilding Pack Wolves saga after the search for Agent Smith put an end to his abuse and experimentation on shifters only for someone else to "out" all the River and Wilding Pack shifters, encouraging humans to hunt them all down and kill them….
This story focusses on Owen Harding, one of the victims of Agent Smith, who had been abused medically and physically by the experimentation for more than a year before being rescued and joining the River Pack wolves. He's scared to shift, worried about what effect the genetic mutation he was subjected to will have on him and if he will be able to control himself and shift back again. Meanwhile he's working as a body guard, part of the security detail protecting Nova Wilding, who has taken over her father's computer gaming company after his assassination. The only problem is, she's feisty, female and oh so attractive to him, but he's working, determined not to risk mating and she's in constant danger from the anti-shifter fanatics.... When it turns out she's also highly attracted to him but recognises that she needs to mate with someone from her own pack things are going to get interesting for them both.
With assassination attempts, kidnapping, a manipulative beta determined to make Nova his mate and Owen and Nova fighting their mutual attraction some of the time, kidnapping, explosives and live streaming, this is a great, fast paced paranormal thriller and one I have no hesitation in highly recommending. It is one of those rare books where I started it late at night and really wanted to finish it before going to sleep because I was worried about what was going to happen next. A riveting read and I really look forward to reading future episodes in this paranormal thriller/romance series!
Thanks to the author for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
Wish I had seen that before starting this book. The frustration from getting to 60%, only to have the heroine blindly throw her life away without even trying to figure out an alternative solution, or even thinking twice, is just overwhelming. ALL OVER A VIDEO GAME. 🤡🤡

My Review: ✰✰✰✰ This was fast paced and hot! Between their always being in a crisis situation for one reason or another and their volatile relationship, there was always something going on in this book.
Owen was a black wolf, but since the experiments on him, he’s not sure what creature lives inside him and he’s afraid to let it out. But Nova makes his creature want out badly.
Nova’s trying to figure out how to step into her father’s shoes in the gaming company he left her when he was murdered. The pack is pressuring her to mate and the Beta wants that mate to be him. Her wolf wants Owen. But she doesn’t want to! She just wants to do things neat and tidy. She keeps trying to do what she THINKS she SHOULD do, but life keeps getting messy and the SHOULD doesn’t appeal.
This is a series, and the Wolf Hunter is part of the overarching story of the series. So he will continue to appear throughout. What fun…he’s a bit creepy. Each book can be a standalone, but reading a series is so much more fun! There is no cliffhanger ending. The book ended where the story nicely comes to an end. But you can certainly see how the series can continue from there.
The main characters are well done and have some really great interaction. The storyline is great and I loved the gaming aspect. That should be very popular. The violence is bloody, but it’s shifters so that’s to be expected. And the sex is steamy hot, also to be expected with shifters. I really didn’t expect too much from this when I picked it up to be honest, but it was a very pleasant 4-star surprise. I’m hoping the rest of the series is as good as this first book. The author is quite prolific and has other series going. I reviewed a book from one of her other series a couple of weeks ago, Jaxson from her River Pack series. That was also a great read. Check her out and see what else she has that you might like.
There were some good ideas here but it just didn't deliver. We've got a damaged-by-his-past shifter, who can't shift because of his past trauma, acting as a bodyguard for a super hot shifter FMC who recently lost her father, who was the head of the gaming company (ya, video games), and there's a bad-guy after shifters and specifically trying to kill her and her pack... She's trying to hold her father's business/legacy together and launch the game (which I really didn't care about at all)... while she's also trying to not get killed by the maniac that wants her dead.
MMC saves the FMC (after the bad-guy tosses a grenade in her car and he grabs it and tosses it out the window) and after that brush with death, one thing leads to another, BUUUUUT, she can't have him as her alpha because he's outside her pack, and he can't have her because he can't shift (because of his past trauma)... but they love each other (WHYYYY??? you ask? Because they're both sooooo irresistibly hottttt -- sigh) and the threat against her continues, his desire to protect her increases, and eventually they work it out. Of course.
The spicy bits fell far short of hot for me. Overall wanted so much more!
Since the car bomb that killed her father, Nova Wilding is under twenty four hour a day protection. She is determined to make sure the Games company that is the life blood of the Wilding Pack thrives. They have a new computer game coming out soon, so all must go well. Owen Harding is working for the Riverwise Private Security. They are mostly ex army wolves, some like himself who had some extremely harrowing experiences. He was given drugs that forever changed his beast, to such a degree that Owen is not sure what he is. The hardest part of Owen's job guarding Nova is going to be keeping his hands off the sexy little wolf. We have a wonderful ,but damaged and insecure hero . He knows his job and does it well. It´s himself he has doubts about. Our heroine knows what she must do, but Living up to her murdered father´s expectations is proving harder that she thought. A sexy book full of growly, shifter Alpha males, fights and danger. This is the start of a series that I will certainly be reading more of. I loved it.
Veteran Owen Harding is at Wylderide to do a job and that didn't include falling in love with the new owner , Nova Wild. But how could he avoid it? Pretty Nova is spunky and full of life and he is just one of the survivors from failed experiments.
Both lead characters are enjoyable and the story had a nice flow. Owen makes a good hero but the story moves along too quickly to be able to sympathize for him (because of the torture and experimentation). Maybe, more back ground on him. The heroine didn't have any moments where she's kicking butt but she has a good head on her shoulders. Enough alpha male material around for a continuation of the series. Overall 3.25 - 3.5
This book was really really really frustrating. The h was an obnoxious weakling. She was pretty useless. The fact that she was supposed to be an Alpha female was laughable. Her submission to Brad was so very stupid. The added drama was eye roll worthy. I hate reading a book where you spend the majority of the time hoping the H will find someone (ANYONE) else, someone worthy.
The H is a bodyguard for female shifter who is grieving her murdered father. I liked the angsty H, who adored the h. I wasn't so keen on her, I thought she was weak and immature. I did like the forced submission scene, and how some elements of how shifters gain their magic. It was good, just a little juvenile.
Alisa Woods created another wonderful spin off series with Wild Game (Wilding Pack Wolves #1). This contemporary PNR shifter novel is set in Seattle and appropriate for new adult and adult audiences. We first met Owen, in Jace (River Pack Wolves #2). He served in the army with Jace, who thought Owen was dead until he discovered that he was being held prisoner and experimented on by Agent Smith. Now Owen as working as a bodyguard for River Pack and assigned to protect Nova Wilding, CEO of Wylderide Gaming and member of the Wilding Pack. Nova’s life is in danger, and Owen is the wolf determined to protect her.
I cannot get enough of Alisa Woods shifter novels. Each one is exciting with a unique and interesting plot that is still related to the other books and characters; the same holds true for Wild Game. I enjoyed the game developer aspect of the story. It was creative and entertaining. This story had tons of mystery and intrigue. The characters are well-developed and likeable. Owen is strong and a survivor. He is loyal and protective. Nova is an intelligent and brave heroine whom I adored. Brad Hoffman was an interesting advisory. I found the history of the Wilding pack fascinating. They are different than most wolf packs. This is yet another Alisa Woods Series I will continue to follow.

This one has been languishing on my Kindle for a few months, as I received it (along with a few dozen other freebies) for participating in a giveaway. Alisa is pulling her series slowly out of Kindle Unlimited, so I figured I'd better shuffle them to the top of the to-be-read pile before I lose my chance!
Owen Harding is a combat veteran and werewolf who was experimented on by the sadistic Agent Smith. As a result his wolf side has been altered, and after seeing the other soldiers become trapped in their deformed alternate states he has no wish to tempt fate and make the shift himself. He doesn't know what he will become, but figures it can't be good.
Nova Wilding is the heir to a multimillion dollar gaming industry which falls abruptly into her lap after her father is murdered by a hate group who target shifters. Along with the responsibility of making sure the company succeeds, she must also choose a new alpha for her pack by mating with an alpha-grade male. Problem is the one wolf she wants isn't really a wolf anymore, and the hate group that killed her father has its sights set on ending her as well.
Owen is assigned as Nova's personal bodyguard, and he's by her side 24/7. Romantic complications ensue! Add in a manipulative asshat named Brad who thinks the company and Nova should be handed to him on a silver platter because he was the beta to Nova's father and you're guaranteed a tension-filled ride. I read through it in one sitting yesterday evening.
Sounds fantastic, right? Alisa is a great author. Her narrative flows smoothly, the dialogue is good and she can pen a sultry scene like few others can. But it got my goat that the possibility of Nova leading the pack without needing a man around never even came up. That just kind of sucked and that's why it gets three stars from me in spite of everything else. Maybe there's an aspect to the way Alisa's wolf world works that isn't made clear to me here but is mentioned in a previous series. I'm not sure. But as the 1st book of its own series Wild Game should have at least spent a few pages on world-building to fill in the gaps so new readers like myself weren't scratching their heads. I love the romance, but can we get some women leads who aren't essentially 2nd class supernatural citizens?! Nova had a ton of potential, and I really was expecting her to gear up and stand her ground in defense of her people. It could have worked without ruining the dynamic between her and Owen. Oh well.
After Nova Wilding’s father was killed there's been a huge bulls eye on her back. Afraid that someone is going to hurt she turns to Owen to keep her safe. Problem solved right?...Wrong!
Owen has been tortured for so many years he does not know who or what he really is anymore. But one thing he knows is that this should be a very easy job.
So what a girl to do when she has big shoes to fill but is too distracted to take her fathers company to new heights because someone insists on trying to kill her...and what's a guy to do when he's just trying to fix his life but can't stop from falling in love? Read and find out!
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review
So I just want to say that I loved this book just as much as I loved the other books in the series.
One thing I loved that Alisa Woods did was make Nova a little bit more soft and pink. She is the kind of woman who wants to the rule the world but she just may need someone by her side to keep her safe.... unlike the other women that stared in the previous books. By giving Nova that kind of personality it made it even more beautiful when she finally showed how bold and brave she really can be.
Over all this book was short and hot with a lot of passion. This book is selling for an unbeatable price and is sure to get you hooked. Great job Alisa, you make being a wolf seem beyond HOT!
I haven't read more than one book by this author before but I liked it so much that I started getting the rest of her books to catch up on. Plus I freaking love werewolves so it's a win win here! Now this book is the first of this series and I loved it! You have military man Owen, a werewolf from the army, well he was this before he became a test tube subject. He doesn't look at himself in the best of lights because of this so he's a body guard now for the river pack. And his assignment involves Nova. She's this cute little thing who is super smart and runs a gaming development company. She's also a werewolf from another pack with some serious problems. She is spunky to Owen's brooding damaged opposite. With her alpha and father killed, she is supposed to pick a mate now, but some things can't be rushed or forced.
I loved how everything played out and I loved even more the chase that ensued. It's fun and was a great read! The writing is fantastic too! So with that said k look forward to reading book two!! 5 PAWS!!
Ok so the pace was steady with Owen the body guard protecting Nova from an unknown threat. As the story progresses we see that it's not only her that is being threatened but all shifters. However that gets buried under Nova and her personal threats. Her father was executed and she has been constantly under threat. Also, is the fact that her pack needs an alpha and Brad is the contender. We can see that poor Nova is being bombarded by all sides. Owen actually saves her throughout the story but she is to loyal to the father to see him as her hero. It's suspenseful and quite intriguing.
Wild Game is book one of the Wilding Pack Wolves paranormal romance series.
This series has links to the Riverwise Private Security series.
Owen Harding is a shifter. He's currently employed to protect Nova Wilding after her father was murdered and her family targeted by anti-shifters. Nova runs a gaming company, but she is also the daughter of her packs murdered alpha. She's under pressure to choose a mate to solidify the pack, keep herself safe and launch a new computer game.
Owen's been a victim of the anti-shifters himself and it has left him damaged. Can he keep Nova protect her from her enemies and his feelings?
'A Deadly Sin' was my first read by Ms. Woods (2 stars) but I thought the author deserved another chance to prove better writing than 'it was okay'. Sooooo, 'Wild Game' was my second, second read. Bloody hell, I had already read it but never made a Goodreads entry. I am guessing I was on the fence about rating it or I was so disappointed that I sought comfort in reading another author immediately. Either works. The second reading wasn't a complete loss as I happened to be testing a new read-aloud app. Rating app 4 stars, 'Wild Game' 2 stars.
Owen has just gotten his life back after being experimented on and almost dying at the hands of Agent Smith who conducted medical experiments on him and now he is afraid to shift not knowing what will happen. Nova Wilding has taken over her father’s gaming company after he was assassinated. Owen has been hired to protect her but the attraction between them is hard to deny. Plenty of drama and suspense, and lots of steam. Looking forward to more of this new series!
I received an advanced review copy from the author for a honest review.
3.5 stars.
I didn't find this story as exciting as the others from Ms. Woods. I'm missing the interactions with the witches and the pack lifestyle. I know the Wildings aren't your normal pack but, what about the Rivers?
I downloaded Wild Game as a free novel from Amazon. Enjoyable first book of a series with great characters in Nova and Owen, well-paced plot, and a few twists and turns to keep things interesting. Read this straight through in a couple hours; I'll be reading more from this author.
This was a really good love story. The characters are wicked and Hot! Who doesn't love a good wolf tale! The plot was good too with many twists and turns. Try it!
