Da ich mich schon immer für die Geschichte von Vlad Dracula, seinen Nachfahren und für Roma und Sinti interessiert habe, bis jetzt aber keine sehr qualitativen Bücher dazu finden konnte, wollte ich mir Zur blauen Stunde mal genauer ansehen.
Die Autorin vermittelt dem Leser das Gefühl sich mitten in ihrer Geschichte zu befinden. Man kann sich regelrecht in die Hauptcharaktere hineinversetzen. Auch hält sich die Autorin an historische Fakten, was ich in historischen Romanen für wichtig halte.
Ich konnte das Buch nicht mehr aus der Hand legen und musste immer weiter lesen, da es sehr spannend und fesselnd von Anfang bis zum Ende ist. Ich gebe dem Buch daher 5 von 5 Sternen!
Ich kann's kaum erwarten Band 2 zu lesen.

At The Blue Hour is a historical fiction that revolves around the journey of the protagonist Irina. From her birth as a slave to her becoming a princess and then to a lot more. The plot is tightly knit with the elements of love and magic. It at the same time is both a tragedy and a reflection of strength. The narrative touches all your senses of touch, smell and sight with its vivid description. It instantly transports you to the setting. The characters are sketched as humanly as possible. They at gradually developed and are raw and real in their choices. Honestly it doesn’t feel like a debut novel. From the effortless writing, intriguing narrative to that gorgeous cover. I'm totally in awe of Isabeau Kelm. Such a great work! Will recommend this book to everyone who’s looking for a new read during this lockdown.

Erstmal herzlichen Dank an die Autorin für ein handsigniertes Buch mitsamt Lesezeichen!
(Ich habe es über Goodreads First Reads gewonnen.)
Ich habe kein Talent für's Schreiben - insbesondere nicht von Reviews -, aber ich werde, wie versprochen, mein Bestes geben ;-).
Wenn man keine Reviews schreiben kann, beginnt man vielleicht am besten mit einer Pro- und Con- Liste. Das dachte jedenfalls ich, aber nach einer Woche Brüten über einem und Schmierzettel sind mir immer noch keine Punkte für die Contra-Seite eingefallen... Hier also meine Pro-Punkte:
Oder vielleicht doch noch ein kurzer Hinweis vorher: Ich verhalte mich eigentlich gerade widersprüchlich indem ich zum einen feststelle, dass mir keine Contra-Punkte eingefallen sind, dem Buch auf der anderen Seite aber nur 4/5 und nicht 5/5 Sternen gebe. Das liegt daran, dass ich die Sterne aus purem Bauchgefühl vergebe und auf einer relativen Bewertungsskala. Meine Lieblingsbücher bekommen 5 Sterne und der ganze Rest wird daran gemessen und verglichen. Die Testfrage ist mehr oder weniger "Mit welchem bisher gelesenen Buch lässt sich mein Gefühl direkt nach der letzten Seite am besten vergleichen?". Dann gibt es die entsprechende Anzahl an Sternen.
So, nun aber endlich zur Pro-Liste:
1. Ich stehe generell auf historische Romane. Wenn sie gut geschrieben sind, kann man eine Menge nebenbei lernen und merkt es sich sogar noch besser, weil es mit Emotionen verknüpft wird.
Dazu vielleicht noch ein neutraler Punkt. Negativ will ich ihn nicht nennen, weil es mich nicht gestört hat; ich war zu sehr mit der Narrative beschäftigt. Ich habe in der Tat viel gelernt über einen Ort und eine Zeit, von denen ich überhaupt keine Ahnung hatte, aber, da ich es alles gleich sehr spannend fand, hätte ich gern noch mehr gewusst. Keine übermäßigen Info-Dumps mit purem World Building von über 10 Seiten am Stück (wie es manche Autoren machen), aber ein bisschen mehr, zur noch besseren Zurechtfindung. Denn ein historischer Roman ließt sich einfach besser als Wikipedia. Obwohl ich schon Probleme hatte, irgendwelche Infos auf Wikipedia zu Petru V. zu finden.
2. Die Fußnoten.
3. Das wunderschöne und stimmungsvolle Cover.
4. Das ganze Foreshadowing, aka die beiläufigen Sätze zwischendurch über die zukünftige Handlung. Ich wollte dadurch "noch unbedingter" weiterlesen. Am Ende hatte ich alles in 1,5 Tagen durch.
5. Ich will jetzt wissen, wie es weitergeht!
6. Die emotionale Achterbahnfahrt. Die Lektüre hat mich emotional sehr mitgenommen (im positiven Sinn), auch wenn ich manchmal gar nicht verstanden habe, warum. Es war eher ein generelles Gefühl, das ich nicht festmachen konnte.
7. Die Fähigkeit der Autorin, mir die Gefühle der Protagonistin wirklich spürbar (s. 6.) zu vermitteln. Damit meine ich nicht greifbare Emotionen in einem bestimmten Moment, sondern eher eine generelle Atmosphäre ihrer Unkenntnis über und Neugier für die Welt. Manchmal hat es mich auch frustriert, weil ich ein Leser bin, der ganz genau wissen will, wie zB Magie in dieser Welt funktioniert, etc. Nach einigen Tagen der Reflektion bin ich jedoch letztendlich voll überzeugt, dass diese Art von Wissensvermittlung nicht in die Narrative passen würde, sie lebt doch zu sehr vom Unwissen der Protagonistin.
So, nun habe ich ziemlich viel geschrieben und hoffentlich niemanden gelangweilt. Ein echter (professioneller) Review ist es nicht geworden, eher eine einfache Sammlung meiner Eindrücke in Umgangssprache. In meinem Fall ist dies aber besser als jeder Review. Für einen solchen würde ich nämlich immer noch vor einem völlig leeren Word Dokument sitzen und verzweifelt auf den Bildschirm starren..

This is a story that captivated me from the first chapters.
I've never heard of Irina Botezata and had absolutely no knowledge of XVI-century Moldavia, but it is a story worth revealing to the readers and the way Isabeu Kelm did that was just brilliant.
For me, it's a story of Cinderella after "And they lived happily ever after", because "they" rarely do, especially in the long forgotten past. Irina has endured so much cruelty and misery in her life, being a slave at the monastery, that becoming a voivode's mistress could be seen as salvation. But it seems, that slavery is more than just a social status and the search for freedom will become a leitmotif of the book.
What I loved about the book is that the characters are far from being static, there are no classical protagonists or antagonists - only real people whose true nature is fluid, because real life changes all the time and affects us in all sorts of ways. And what changes there were for Irina!
Naturally, after reading the book, I got interested and wanted to find out more about the real historical figure but sadly found only a few sentences on Wiki. Let's hope that the more readership this book has, the more interest there will be for such an extraordinary woman as Irina Botezata

Look at the cover! This gypsy girl's look is alluring and full of mistery. Her path is crooked and it's always unclear which turn she'll choose next.
Sounds, smells, vibes... Each scene is filled with them. I have always been fully immersed in the story. Even a movie couldn't give you such realistic depiction.
But what do you think is the most intriguing about the novel? The adventures of the main heroine just begin in this book. But you can't resist the pleasure of knowing the continuation.
So, welcome to the sequel!

Wow! At the Blue Hour was a dark magical love story with emotional ups and downs. Irina was born a slave and became a princess but it came with a price. From the beginning she had a love for books and magic which became her escape from the life of a slave. However this love and understanding of magic could cost her everything. I love the strength and love that was told within the story. The novel held my attention and only got better with every page. The author did an amazing job with the story. I felt connected to the main character and felt the hurt and turbulent moments. This novel is so raw and real. From this novel I will remember that through it all (good and bad) we must go on.
