Ripped: 'cause any addiction is a good addiction

Rate this book
Be the best of you – claimed the first supplement's tub I've ever bought.
But don't ask me why I did it.
Or what I do for a living, it doesn't matter.
Where I live. Who I am.
None of these things make sense, without a purpose.
A driven life.
Because all it matters, is intangible.
A dream. A need. An addiction.
But don't get all of this wrong.
I do need some sort of addiction that takes me away from here.
Something that can pull me out of this reality - where I can be the one I dream of.
It's not like I should have any reason to lie, now.

Because - Here, is something that nobody will ever tell you.
Not me.
Not even once, it slipped out of my mouth that...

‘cause no addiction is a good addiction.

This was a bit of an unusual read for me. For anyone that doesn't know me, I’m not at all into bodybuilding. The thing is, that this book is not about that. Well, the author presents a story of a builder that seems to have one only focus on his life: getting his body bigger, better. His focus is an addiction.
It is not good.
Not for him.
Not for anyone.
He just doesn’t see it at first.
Until something happens.
And then he sees it as “...no matter what, no matter what you do in your life, or how hard you try - your are never just your body.”

I liked the simple and yet artistic way of the writing style. The message conveyed in a bit of unusual way is a standing one: no addiction is good. Because “The thing you love the most, is likely to be the very thing that one day will kill you.”

A book is written to entertain and provoke emotion and this story did not disappoint. I admire the way the author portrayed who his character was through the use of thoughts and conversations. A very intriguing story of one man's pursuit of excellence as he realizes what is truly important in the end.

This book - about addiction to body building and how the endless pursuit of perfection affects the mind, was extremely interesting in many ways.

A very short read, I got through this during a lunchbreak and enjoyed every minute of it. I loved the author's fast-paced, unique style of writing.
Mainly written as short, punchy sentences and snatches of speech, this book reads almost as a combination of poetry and a conversation with the character's own mind.

I realise this style of writing may not be to everyone's taste, but I loved it and think the author is very talented. I would love to read more of his work.

This is the second book by this author that I've read, and like his first, I was struck by the layers in his writing.
This is a book about addiction, in this case the addiction to body building. But it's more than that. This book is an exploration of what lies beneath addictions such as this.
The quest for the perfect body overtakes the characters entire life, nothing else really exists for him, only working out. But underneath you can feel his lack of belief that he can ever be good enough on his own, without that perfect body.
This is a book about loneliness, about the growing sense that we are more than just a body and the fear of that thinking. This is a book where addiction is used to keep the world at bay.
Read it, absorb it, and read it again. Highly recommended.

A BOOK ABOUT THE AFFECTS OF ADDICTION AND HOW IT TAKES OVER YOUR MENTAL STATE. WHEN I THINK OF ADDICTION THE NORMAL ASSUMPTION PEOPLE THINK OF IS DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. THIS BOOK MADE ME AWARE THAT IT CAN BE MUCH MORE THAN THIS SUCH AS EXERCISE AND BODY IMAGE. THE ADDICTION TO WANT TO BE PERFECT. WELL WRITTEN BOOK AND ALTHOUGH SHORT GET THE MESSAGE ACROSS PERFECTLY. GREAT READ.

Inside The Bodybuilding Mind

I work with a lot of guys who are almost as extreme as the main character of this book. They time their high protein meals, weigh everything, have pre-workout shakes, post-workout supplements, cheat day Sunday for a tiny bit of normal food. I've seen one guy eat 6 chicken breasts at lunch.
After reading this, I think I almost get it. A glimpse inside what is going on for these people when they go extreme, leave the regular world. Bodybuilding as a means of escape from reality, to fix yourself. Awesome story

This was very different from anything I’ve ever read before and very short! The man’s fascination with body building is all consuming, losing touch with his friends and his girlfriend too. Working out twenty-four seven and pushing himself to the limit, he frets over everything he consumes and doesn’t stop, even when it almost kills him. Hard to understand and I can only relate to his obsession when I've been dieting and all I could think about was what I was NOT going to eat in the next twenty-four hours. Interesting read and food for thought.

I rarely don't finish a book once started, but this one I couldn't get through. As I was reading, it felt like I should've been on speed to keep up. It was probably the intention of the author, though in the end, it wasn't for me.

Addiction, wow, what a powerful topic! I bought this book as part of a reading initiative from one of my facebook groups. In doing so, I found myself forced to go outside my normal genre and give something new a try. I am happy to say I am glad I did.

Although I prefer paperbacks, I purchased this book in an eBook format. As a novella it was the perfect length for me to read in one evening without my eyes watering or worse blurring.

All of us have heard about addiction before, but this short opened my eyes to how many things in or lives can become an obsession, even things that normally are considered healthy. Gian Andrea's writing voice is powerful, sensual and emotional. The descriptions of the human body are intense and add to the overall appeal of the book.

I would recommend Ripped 'cause any addiction is a good addiction by Gian Andrea to anyone looking for an mind-opening evening of reading.

Not Every Addiction Is A Good Addiction.

I'm not sure what was expecting in this story...but this wasn't it. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

I have read other works from this author. His writing style is unique, artistic, and "in your face". It's very hip and modern.

This autobiographical (?) story is--in a way--kind of scary. The main character is edgy and willing to push his body WAY TOO FAR because of addiction to body building and steroid use. It's scary what this man is willing to risk to be "ripped".

This story made me question my own "addictions". How far would I go?

When a book makes you ask questions, when it is relatable...then it's a worth the read.

I gave this book a three star rating (as opposed to a higher rating) because my own personal tastes are not as...hip and edgy...as the author's. Call me old fashioned. I'm good with that.

However, someone younger, more "with it" than I, will probably love that writing style.

I would recommend this short exciting story to young 20/30 something hipsters; people into bodybuilding and those who want to watch a young man's addiction implode his life from the inside out.

I dove in and almost got back to work late from lunch, I just didn't want to stop! Once more Gian has constructed a story that lets you see inside the mind, this time of an addict. The reasoning, the justifications behind every decision that continues to propel him forward, that concretes his mindset and reaffirms his beliefs that without his amazing outer appearance he will never survive...never get through the day.. man that is addiction personified. And as with most addictions, there is a rock bottom. Well written, very enjoyable read!

One pill makes you larger...

This is the second book I've read by this author. The writing style of the first book was discombobulated and down right annoying. However, this book is written in a completely different manner. It's relatable, thought-provoking and simplistic. Having my own experience with addiction I could completely relate with the main character. Addiction is blinding, self-deprecating, conniving and destructive. I applaud the author for overcoming this deadly disease.

An interesting premise of a bodybuilder who is addicted and obsessed with his body. The character, I found, is well developed in that he has a reason why it all started. It was a quick read, but (for me) it didn't flow well - in my edition words were in the wrong places which hindered my reading experience and even though I liked the story, in the end it was just okay.
