Alternative 3: The 1978 Cult Sci-Fi Classic Republished with New Material

Rate this book
Truth, they say, is stranger than fiction and so it is with Alternative 3. A television documentary broadcast nearly 40 years ago followed by the book Alternative 3 - a book so many wanted suppressed. The programme revealed that Earth was doomed, mankind faced destruction - Mass panic followed. The evidence....

The world was overheating - but no one had heard of global warming!
Strange weather patterns, floods, crops withering in the parched earth.
Scientists mysteriously vanishing.
Reports of kidnapping and brainwashing.
Russian and American, locked in a cold war on earth, were co-operating in space.
The programme never transmitted in Russia or America. Was is banned on political orders!
Strange activity on the moon.
Conspiracy theories abounded.

And then, the spin doctors went to work. Alternative 3 was described as a hoax, an April Fool's joke - the author savaged as a scare-mongering fantasist. Newspapers joined the attack. American author, Jim Keith, wrote two books to prove Alternative 3 was a fraud. And so the story ended. But did it?...

Alternative 3 revealed a conspiracy so fantastic it was easy to refute. But four decades later facts the author exposed have proven to be true.
Global warming is accepted as happening. Presidents Obama and Putin have met to discuss climate change.
Scientists continue to disappear.
In 2010 nearly 7000,000 people simply vanished in the USA but worse was to come. The number has increased to 900,000 in 2013.
Today, Russian and American are sharing space technology at an ever increasing rate. Despite the huge advances, no manned moon landings have been made public since Apollo17 in 1972.
After announcing to the world that Alternative 3 was not true, the author wrote, "I have reason to suppose that my home telephone was being tapped and my contacts who were experienced in such matters were convinced that certain intelligence agencies considered that I probably knew too much." By then he'd emigrated to the far side of the world, moving between several continents.

Republished four decades later Alternative 3 is a detective story revealing a terrifying conspiracy.

But is it true? Did a veteran newspaper journalist with years of experience have such a vivid imagination or was he got at, forced to disclaim the truth that is Alternative 3. Download Alternative 3 today and learn the truth about the conspiracy.

This is not my normal genre and is written in a documentary style similar to H. G. Wells, War of the Worlds. Watkins uses a documentary writing style with actual historical figures leading the reader to ask themselves if this really happened, thereby giving credence to Alternative 3! Watkins research is extensive and accurately depicts events and government figures spanning the globe. I would like to have taken this journey with a relatable character rather then a collection of news briefing, but it has now been made into a major motion picture, Packing for Mars. Definitely worth a read.

I do hate conspiracy theories but then again I do love them too… I wondered where all the best minds went to, turns out it is Mars. There is one major hole in the idea and that is they haven’t taken me! This is a revised version of a book written in the seventies with added material I understand. I need a book like this to keep me interested or I honestly just walk away after the first couple of chapters. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read. The research is obvious and the theory great. Over the years I dip into books like this but not often as many tend to be dross. Alternative 3 does not fall into this category. There is a lot in here. This book is crammed with facts and stories to back up the theory. My tiny criticism is that structurally, at times it needs a break for the average reader who tends to read in short bursts, but that is very minor. It is quite the read. If you like this type of thing, you will certainly enjoy this book. It will have a somewhat niche audience I am sure but I am happy to include myself in their company. There’s nothing like a great hoax.

Very interesting book that sheds light on the massive disappearances that have happened throughout the years as well as other things that will startle you and leave you with the question... how is it today if they could do all that back then?

A Book Well Worth Reading

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this intriguing book! The author goes into some rather disturbing and interesting details about the importance of how alternative 3 came about and what it ultimately entailed.
I personally believe there remains some grain of truth written within certain books; however, it’s not always easy to reveal all the facts or relevant information pertaining to the entirety of the full story, for it may hold some hidden truths that may remain highly controversial to those who may not be able to accept it. Additionally, most people tend to reject nearly anything that goes against their own beliefs or ideologies. Therefore, many hidden truths remain simply hidden in plain sight.

I found the whole story of this book interesting because it ties in with quite a few actual facts. However, the story could have been written in a different format. It then found me skipping bits and I must say I am a bit disappointed.

I need more time to digest what I read and to read other books recommended by the same source.

Anyway for now I'm going to take a nap.

This is a rather well researched and structured book about "Alternative 3" and a British TV programme of 1977 about the secret plans to evacuate humans to Mars. Originally published in 1978 this book has been finally revived.
I must admit I was sceptic at first as the subject is penetrating conspiracy territory. However, having just seen "The Martian" at the cinema the week before I was intrigued when I found this on an Amazon search and downloaded the book.
Then I read this carefully composed book with its minute details, transcripts of interviews, eye witness reports and blunt data about disappearances, odd behaviours and a lot of things that don't add up.
When looking closely at everything pieced together as Watkins did, there is credibility to his case.
A lot did happen in the mad years of the cold war and the era of technological advances in space, so the idea of human settlements on Mars soon after the moon-landing is certainly not the most outlandish thing to think about. Scientists disappearing and many other oddities leave an undeniable shadow of doubt.
As far as conspiracy theories goes, this is one of the more serious and convincing books but it should also interest others. With more missions to Mars and recent popular space stories this is definitely a book to read.

To future people interested in this book: read it carefully to the very end of it, comprising the "Author's Footnote".
Is it a fictional book? Is it thoroughly the result of its author's imagination? Or else, it it conveying us, its readers something more than simple, usual fiction?! Please, don't underestimate this book, as it is not the case.

Adds little to the original TV pseudo documentary, except for unnecessary sabotage plot lines.

Too many unneccessary facts and names, the storyline is hard to follow.
Important and useful information only on the last thirty pages.
It's not a novel but a documentary.

Would have been far more interesting if I didn't know it was all fake. It was a good attempt at Mockumentary in the written form, if you are into such things.
