Sally Cronin is the author of eighteen books including her memoir Size Matters: Especially when you weigh 330lb first published in 2001 which followed her weight loss of 150lbs and the programme she designed to achieve a healthy weight and regain her health. A programme she shared with her clients over her 26 year career as a nutritional therapist and on her blog. This has been followed by another seventeen books both fiction and non-fiction including multi-genre collections of short stories and poetry.
Her latest book Size Always Matters is an extended and updated version of her original book Size Matters and now includes the nutritional element to weight loss and some recipes with ingredients that provide the nutrients necessary for healthy weight loss and continued good health.

This isn’t my normal reading fare but I’m so glad I read this. It was emotionally satisfying as I followed the author on her journey of weight loss and was chock full of helpful information. It talked about vitamins and minerals and the signs to watch for if you are missing them in your diet. On how to approach eating and exercising. On getting to the root of why you have a weight problem (if you do). It breaks down the food groups. Tells how many calories are in what foods and how many calories you burn when housecleaning, exercising etc. Charts are included at the end to track what you eat and figure out your own plan for weight loss. I would recommend this for any reader. Even if you aren’t overweight, it gives you plenty of tips on staying healthy. This is an amazing read. Highly recommended.
It's nice to see someone who is honest and candid about a life journey and is willing to share the knowledge gleaned from difficult experiences. That's what you'll find in this book. It's an eye-opening account of the ups and downs of weight loss and how to finally overcome the problem. The book touches on raw emotions which are quite relatable, and who doesn't want to know someone's been where they are? But the meat of the content (I promise that's not meant to be a food pun) is in the valuable information about food, vitamins, minerals, and exercise. Not only is the content easy to consume (also not meant to be an eating pun), but the tables and questionnaires make this seem like an easy lifestyle to adopt. Okay, the text says it's not always easy, and logically we know that. But much of the work—the research and assembling of data—is done for us. What a wealth of information to have at our fingertips!

I first was struck by the author’s willingness to share so many personal things most of us would hold to dearly as private; things that would humiliate; things we’d be hard-pressed to look in the mirror and admit even to ourselves. I knew anyone willing to bridge this gap must be someone with integrity and a deep concern for her fellow human beings.
I wasn’t far into the book before finding the encouragement I needed. The last paragraph of chapter one said it all: “What began as a painful journey into my past became an exciting adventure in the present with expectations of a much brighter future.” Above all else, I wanted a bright future. And Ms. Cronin’s approach proffered that hope.
I’m not going to detail the specifics of this book, because a peek inside on Amazon will show you the table of contents and highlight the details of the program she developed. What I want to shine a light on is the inspiration she exemplifies and offers to all those battling a weight problem.

Because her health was in such jeopardy, she needed not only to urgently change her eating habits, but also to have the results be permanent. So when we find ourselves faced with a life-threatening condition, fear leads us to seek a quick fix. But quick fixes are almost never permanent and almost always detrimental. The author recognized this and strove instead to find her own way back home to herself.
Although despairing and contemplating suicide, she reached deep inside and found a way to kindle her common sense, which provided the ladder needed to climb out of the pit into which she’d dug herself. Admitting her weaknesses and acknowledging her strengths, she put the totality of herself into turning her life around. Plying patience and dogged determination, she climbed out of the suffocating abyss and surfaced into the fresh air of a promising and vibrant life.
