Warehaven #3

Une indomptable captive

Rate this book

Denise Lynn lives in NW Ohio with her husband, son and slew of 4-legged "kids". She has been an avid reader of romance novels for many years, travelling to lands and times filled with brave knights, courageous ladies and never-ending love between the pages of those wonderful books.

She writes medieval romances set in England, Ireland, Normandy, France and a few fictitious islands in the waters surrounding Great Britain. When not writing historical romances, she can be found hiking, baking, sitting in front of a sewing machine, or snipping herbs for various edible and not-so-edible recipes.

So much no for this one. Every woman aside from the heroine is described as "whore." And that includes the "hero's" late wife. Also, the heroine starts up a relationship with the hero while also And then there's that moment in the early chapters when the hero's men threaten the heroine with gang rape in order to get her to obey orders. I love medievals, but this was not promising to be a great escape for me.

Her resistance isn’t childish stubbornness — it’s survival. The wedding scene is especially frustrating, with everyone expecting Isabella to simply accept the situation without any explanation.

As for Richard, I could have understood him better if the author had explored his inner conflicts more deeply. But the narrative rarely shows us what goes on in his mind. His actions come across as harsh, yet the story neither explains nor clearly justifies what motivates him.

Lynn’s writing style also contributes to this emotional distance. The narrative feels choppy, with abrupt transitions and very little emotional depth. Important scenes — involving regret, affection, or vulnerability — pass by far too quickly, leaving the reader to fill in the gaps alone.

Many readers call Isabella “spoiled,” but I disagree. On the contrary, she is the only character whose behavior truly makes sense given her circumstances. She is kidnapped, stripped of her voice and choices, and yet still tries to preserve her dignity and reason through the chaos.

Richard's Revenge

Oh, how his revenge was a success. He planned the kidnapping. Isabella was now on his island. Now to wait for the right moment for his revenge. Isabella was beside herself. She had just found out how worthless her betrothed was. She was so angry. Then she was kidnapped, saw her father fall, had to nurse her kidnapper after being shot by an arrow, spent several days on a boat and now she is at an island castle called Dunstan. Then to top it off the Castle reeks with mold, cobwebs, dust and foul smelling odors. Is her father still alive? When will he come to take her back home? Richard's plans are set. He will not love Isabella. As soon as the revenge is over, what then?

Richard of dunstan is determined to get revenge on glenforde for murdering his wife and child. All he needs is bait!
Isabella of Wareham end is betrothed to glenforde. Richard kidnappes isabella and takes her to dunstan in order to lure glenforde back.
However they have to spend a winter together before anyone can come to isabellas rescue. She suddenly finds herself attracted to Richard and before she knows it gives into temptation.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the chemistry between isabella and Richard they are both very strong willed and the banter between then made it quite enjoyable.
I would recommend this book

Adorei..
Incrível.. Muito Perfeito..
Happy reading, and until next the reading.. 🥰

really enjoyable

I loved the flow of this book, and really enjoyed the main characters. The story was very good even if he is a frustrating man and at times you want to shout at him. Great read.

Kidnapped on the night she was to be betrothed to the Duke of Glenforde, Isabella of Warehaven is carried away by Richard of Dunstan to his island home. She's a pawn in Richard's revenge against Glenforde and will be forced to wed Richard and remain at Dunstan throughout the winter months until Glenforde shows up and dies at Richard's hand. Isabella doesn't go quietly nor fall into Richard's plans readily either; a strong woman in her own right, she does what she can to survive in this world she's thrust into including cleaning and whitewashing the filthy hall she inhabits. As Richard tries to keep to his plan of using Isabella only for bait, he comes to realize that he's actually captured a woman of rare worth and finds it harder and harder to deny the attraction he feels for her. As winter slides into spring, Isabella hopes to erase the darkness from Richard soul and set him free from his plan for revenge.

I actually found this story very interesting. At times it seemed contrived but the dance between two headstrong people was intriguing. A very good medieval romance.

Cette romance médiévale est une très bonne surprise! Objet d’une vengeance très bien orchestrée, l’indomptable captive se révélera finalement être celle qui tiendra les rênes de l’histoire… et le cœur du héros.
