Eli and Jack seem to have settled into a perfect balance in their relationship. Eli has finally found solace from his anxiety and that overwhelming desire to cut, and Jack has found an amazing young man to fill the gaping hole and aching need that's consumed his own heart. But nothing in life is perfect. While Eli has given himself over to Jack, mind, body and soul, Jack has kept a secret about his own traumatic past.
What will happen when Jack's grief over the death of his past lover rises up with a vengeance to destroy everything he's built with Eli? How will Eli cope when the one man he thought he could trust betrays him?
Damaged, Vol 2 Book 2 in the Black Sheets Series
Note: This is the second installment in a series. It is not a standalone novel. If you have not read Damaged Soul, please do so before you purchase this book.
**This novel contains explicit MM sex with significant BDSM elements and is not intended for readers under the age of 18.**
I am a true Southerner, born and raised in the southeast where I plan to stay until the end of my days. I live with a crazy coonhound who's actually an evil genius intent on taking over the world, a sweetheart of a pibble who loves to cuddle, and my ginger Mr. P who is always ready with a cheesy joke.
My storylines primarily focus on May-December relationships because I enjoy the dynamic that an age gap adds to a romance. I would consider my writing to be MM erotic romance. I grew up reading Harlequin novels with all of their gloriously gratuitous and overly dramatic sex scenes, so my books do have a lot of sex, but I also think they have a lot of love. I don't believe that romance has to be sweet and sugary and cute. It can be raw and dirty and sweaty as long as there's true passion, an authentic connection, and naked emotion...with an emphasis on the naked.
I want y'all to enjoy reading my stories as much as I enjoy creating them, so I always welcome any questions or comments.
This book shredded me.. for anyone who has loved so deeply and lost will understand that we build walls around our hearts so that we never experience such pain again.. my heart broke for both Jack and Eli in this book. Keep Kleenex handy.. Anyone who has ever lost the love of their life will completely understand how hard it can be to move on, learn to trust and let down their walls. Eli is so precious and his past makes him feel unworthy.. and Jack has to overcome his loss.. it's brilliantly written
This was very heavy on the emotion. It was definitely better than the first. I liked seeing Jack and Eli's relationship develop a little bit more of something of substance. I felt this was lacking in the last book, but it definitely got made up in this one.
Oh so angsty, intense and emotional. Eli , with a stalker ex boyfriend, Jack with abandonment issues.. Jack never dealt with the death of his mother or his lover. It all comes to a head when Eli is sick.. Can they rebuild the trust and the love?
Well...🥴...this was like reading a story from the upside down. Too, way too, much drama and ridiculousness, repetitive, protracted scenes, and even more drama. I did like the first book, but this was just....wtf😬🤭🤦🏼♀️
3.5 star really, I rounded it up. This is the concluding part of Jack and Eli story and there is again plenty of heavy S&M elements. As much as I like to read more about Jack and Eli, I feel that this second book was a let down as far as the plot goes. Jack being such a control freak, all the drama with Eli's ex should not have been possible. Jon was a clear and present threat to Eli and Jack is a very wealthy man, surely there should have been some basic precaution in placed to keep Eli safe. Jack's meltdown and his ensuing actions which amount to failure to provide and protect just seems very out of charater. There are other plot holes too..like how Eli's building security was able to stop Jack from reaching out to Eli but did not stop his ex from getting to him.
The thing that I did enjoy is how sweet Jack is to Eli and how all consuming is their love. These two have a totally unhealthy codependency and are scorching hot in the bedroom. I am glad there is a HEA for them.
I enjoyed this second installment in the Damaged Series. I felt that there was greater depth and insight into Jack's character this time around. He was presented as a little too perfect in the first novel, but in this book you see that he is human with flaws and fears and a past that still effects him. He makes a huge mistake that has a pretty drastic impact on not just him but on Eli as well, but I appreciate that he owned his screw up. I was glad that both characters were able to grow and evolve despite their setbacks. And of course there's a lot of sex, which I've come to expect from Ms. Pine. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
Let's face it, some of the scenarios were ridiculous. Jack abandons Eli with none of his belongings or art? That a crueler action than leaving. When he comes to his senses, he doesn't contact Sully to try and see Eli, or his dad or his friends? And the big bad billionaire can't get into Eli's crappy apartment but Jon can? The lawyer couldn't get a tougher sentence to begin with? Just silly. Yes, at least they both get into therapy. But I never could empathize much with the characters. I don't like a first person narrative anyway. I'm also giving it a three since it was readable and I did want to finish. I couldn't like or dislike it enough.
This book was just OK it wasn't as good as the first book. I was so over all the drama with Eli crazy ex. It came as no surprise that Eli and Jack got their HEA but there was nothing exciting or memorable about this book.
