Rate this book
The world of order within the Hunter’s Guild has turned into chaos. Esmore, Token Huntress, has been outcast and targeted. Now hiding within Cesar’s coven, she must fight the new urges that consume her. Blood, lust, vengeance, protection- all of these heightened with her new profound vampirism.

With only few allies and her familiar, Chase- they learn that the rules that guided them once, have no purpose in this world. Esmore must find trust within her four brothers, who all have very different purposes within the coven.

Alongside one of the four brothers, Yolo, Esmore infiltrates the Human Compound; a facility which protects humans and experiments on vampires, and discovers the true reason of Whitney’s death.

Chase is the only one who can usher away the darkness that swells within her. With the taste of blood and the beast that lies deep within, Esmore is soon to learn what she is and who she has become.

So I struggled with the second half of the previous book. But there was enough to make me want to continue. I told myself I’d quit if Esmore annoyed me again. Which she did.

So she’s definitely not the brightest bulb in the box which she proves again early on in this book. So I’m out.

I’m annoyed I ever started this series. Mainly because I’m intrigued, there’s a good story here and I want to follow it but I can’t stand Esmore she’s ruining it for me.
I understand the author didn’t want her to be perfect. She’s beautiful, gifted and special in so many ways. But why make her so intellectually challenged?

Her world has become pure chaos. She has been tossed into the raging river and is just barely keeping her head above water and it seems the only lifeline she is being thrown is attached to a steel anchor. Esmore is an outcast in the Hunter’s Guild and must hide in Cesar’s coven. Her only true ally is her familiar, Chase, but even he has secrets he has not revealed. As he stands by her side, she struggles to deny what she has become, only to risk the lives of others around her when the bloodlust takes over. Her strength ebbing, her self-hatred rising and a battle in the offing, will Esmore find she can trust her “brothers” any more than she can trust Cesar? It’s time for Esmore to make her own place in a world that both fears her and wants her terminated, but what will it take to stay alive?

Pure chaos and adrenaline rush, best describes Kia Carrington-Russell’s Token Vampire as we are led down the dark paths of Esmore’s new life. The only certainty she has is that Chase will be there when she needs him most, but one day, he wont’ be able to save her and she may lose him to eternal death.

Kia Carrington-Russell has put her all into this addition to her series. From the emotional pain to the physical torture, we are talking non-stop magnetic reading! Try the series, you’ll love it, but be prepared to slink through the shadows and get a little dirty as Esmore discovers who can be trusted and who just wants to pull her strings like a puppetmaster.

I received this copy from Kia Carrington-Russell in exchange for my honest review.

Token Vampire, to date is now my favourite book published. Words can not express how much I love the darkness that is growing within Esmore and the evident raunchy and loving relationship she has with her familiar, Chase. He is the only one who can ground her and make sure she doesn't fall over the edge. I can't neglect or not mention my love for Esmore's newfound brothers. I love them all for their very different characters and purpose in the big scheme of things. Absolutely love this story and my characters journey x

The Power, Struggles, War continues.......

Many book series lack the smoothness of transitioning from the former book. This is NOT the case!! The characters and events of Book 1 definitely continues smoothly throughout. You don’t miss a beat.

I have felt the pain, sorrow, and excitement of each character within this book. I love, even rooted for the bad guys lol (if you can figure out who they really are).

The twists and turns are so perfectly put into place.
All I can say is AWESOME!!! Off to read book 3!!!!!

I was intrigued by the first book but Token Vampire had me enthralled, I loved pretty much everything about this book and so far it is my favourite piece by Kia.
I loved the storyline, it got more in depth without lagging too much on the past while re-explaining everything like most sequels do, this book provided enough details of the past for new readers to grasp without ruining it for the fans.
Before sitting down and writing the review for this book, I say down and literally compared Token Huntress to Token Vampire and I noticed how much Kia grew as an author. Which is a rarity to see, most authors never hoon in on their craft and expand what they have and I love it when they do. The characters had so much more depth and emotion to them and the world building in this book was fantastic. Seriously great job Kia, you have done an amazing job with Token Vampire.
Esmore is book one was a bit touch and go for me, I loved her tough element but there was still a few floating question marks above her head that I just couldn’t get past. Token Vampire on the other hand, she was one hard-core baddass and I lovvveedddd it! A struggling outcast to her family in the Hunter’s Guild, Esmore needs to find her feet and a place in the world. The transformation Esmore as a character makes symbolizes strength, hope and the ability to strive.
Chase? Well the humours dude could literally do no wrong and I think he is divine. He adores, worships and protects Esmore more than anything you can contemplate, he reminds me of Rhysand from ACOTAR but without that annoying controlling element and with Cassian’s humour because we all know he is the funny one after all. Is it too far to say that the better part of SJM’s characters have been rolled up in a vampire dumpling and their flaws have been taken to the trash because I couldn’t fault Chase, damn that dumpling is good.
Token Vampire is literally full of twists, adventure, hardship, hard life choices an it was all fantastic. I generally find that more sequels either in the book world, movies, TV shows or even the second born child are generally not as grand as the first. (FYI I’m a first child so I know from experience *cough* anyway…) Token Vampire kind stabs that theory of mine to death. I couldn’t fault this book and I couldn’t even find a flaw, I loved it and I am more intrigued to finish the series now more than ever. Bloody awesome work Kia!!!

Token Vampire is one mid blowing adventure! I did not think I could love this series anymore, until I read this book! Never before have I read a book since, Addison Moore or AM Hudson, that a story captured my every thought. I found myself dreaming about Esmore and Chase.

The flow of this book is very smooth and easy to stay focused. I even listened to text to speech afterwords because the flow was great.

Esmore becomes more Badass if that's even possible. Her dark side is blooming in this book. She's got an un denying love and passion for Chase that's phenomenal. If she had a very important piece that her mother has keep hidden to keep her safe, then her passion would burn through those pages! Omg! When she does, I so want to be there!

Chase, he is dark and loves Esmore beyond anything you can Fathom. His character is strong and uses humor to help build others up. Reading through the battles these two are ones you really want to be on there side.

This book is really unusual because it has several story plots with twist and turns that manages to encapture your heart from the start. It pulls you in and embeds the words into your heart. Now I have a huge book hangover because I have to wait for book 3. Lol. Not to mention a huge Book boyfriend crush on CHASE! Omg can we say HOT! Oh and Kia what! Cliffhanger of a lifetime! I want more!

The story is epic! I managed to feel every emotion known to man! It's so hard to read vampire books anymore because they are usually all the same but, when you find an author that can manage to pull you into all these emotions and give you one hell of a ride then you embrace it! All I can say is, hold on!

Are you ready to EXPERIENCE This Book?? The Best.

I was honored to be gifted an ARC of Token Vampire by the author herself for my honest opinion about the book.

Are you ready to EXPERIENCE this book? This is not one you just read, it is so much more!!! You become a part of it.

I couldn't wait to read more of Esmore and her story when I finished the first book Token Huntress. And I would of never thought her journey could get anymore intense and mind blowing, but it does.

When Esmore flees the human colony with Dillon and Julia to Caesar's coven. There she gets to know her new family. But can she understand what or who she really is.

Chase, her familiar, is who stands by her as they try and figure out how to get Julia and Dillon to a safer place, even if it means having to go back to the human colony.

And what will Esmore do when she finds out about the truth surrounding Whitney's death.

There is so much in this story I could probably write pages about it but I won't. I know I would give all the surprises away. Wait till you meet Sydney ,hehe. Oh and if you get into it like I did, well you will be talking back at the book.

Loved this and can not wait for more!!! PNR at it's best.

OMG I love this series, it's amazing!! In this book Esmore is hiding out in Cesar's Coven with Chase, Dillian and Julia getting to know her new family. While she's trying to handle the new feeling within her due to her vampirism she's also trying to find a human compound for Dillian and Julia and while doing that she goes to one with Yolo that's doing experiments. During this she find out more about Whitney, Chase, her brothers and bargains are made with others.

The author once again takes you into this world full of strong characters and a storyline that takes hold of you and you just want to hang on until you get to the last word. I can't wait to find out what happens next!! A must read for PNR fans, you won't be disappointed!!!

my Chase, my familiar, whom I would die for. 5 GOLDEN VAMPIRES

HOLY VAMPIRES BATMAN!!!! WOW! I am wholly & utterly consumed by this FANGTASTIC continuation of a FANGTACULAR series! There’s just so many parts & pieces that make this story so amazing, I don’t even know where to begin!! It has all of the traits that I love in my books – humor, intrigue, Vampires, mysteries, happiness, heartbreak, shocking twists & turns, hot Vampires, love, hot moments, and pretty much anything you could ask for in one book! I love that this is an intricate story with multiple storylines and plots all criss-crossing and interrelated to each other, each affecting the other but in ways that keep it all so intriguing and unpredictable. See that beautiful and intricate design on the cover? Well to me, that is EXACTLY what the storyline and everything that makes it up, would look like if it was a visual design. Add in all of the different species and their unique powers, abilities, alliances and ambitions, and WOW! You get this FANGTASTICALLY addictive story & series!! I am completely blown away with all of the creative aspects of this story & series!! Kia has this genuine gift and way with words that brings this story to life! I felt like I WAS Esmore, seeing, hearing, seeing and feeling everything right along with her! (Hello Chase! *naughty grin*) Although it wasn’t limited to just Esmore, as I was thoroughly encompassed within the story and with all of the characters! I love how Kia narrates the story, flowing from character to character, following each of the scenes, storylines and/or mini-adventures. The way that she can create this complex, detailed story enriched by a full cast of characters, both bad & good, sometimes both - okay they are almost always bad & good, just depends what time of the day it is! LOL - multiple groups, clans, mini adventures, missions, side-stories that all are almost off-shoots of The Main Storyline, yet all move towards the End Goal. Again, picture the design on the front cover. With Kia’s phenomenal talent everything flows so fluidly & smoothly, but the part of her writing style that I love so much is how she makes the story so beautiful, so magical, so so so VAMPTACULAR!! She has this magically subtle way of reminding or refreshing you of who the characters are, or the situations, which helps to keep the story moving so that you can focus on the story itself and enjoy it to its fullest, without backtracking trying to remember who that person is, or why they are there, etc. To try and get my point across better, let me try it this way - I do have problems with concentration, focus and memory due to the pain meds I am on, but the way that Kia tells the story, I do not have any problems whatsoever in following this deeply rich story!! I can follow the storylines, keep track of the people, remembering who they are, which in turn lets me become so engrossed into the story to the point that I can become one with the characters. To me, this is priceless! Kia’s storylines, concepts, world building, character development, is like no other. For all of the hundreds & hundreds of paranormal books - particularly Vampires (which are my favorite) - that I have read, I have NEVER EVER read anything even remotely similar in any way, shape or form to Kia's Token series. That is a magnificent thing and the greatest compliment that I can give to Kia's creative imagination! I love this world that the Token series takes place in, even with all of the horrors contained within. Of course all of the hot Vampires that are living here have nothing to do with it! wink 'tongue in cheek smile' I am ALWAYS hunting for great new paranormal stories to read, authors to love, and Kia is the very embodiment of all of that! Kia is a Token, no, she is THE Token of Vampire & Paranormal books. I would follow her anywhere and through every single story she creates for me to read, experience & live. She is my Token Authoress.

Just as good as the first

Riveting!! Could not put it down for the life of me. It kept me entertained from start to finish. It is definitely worth reading. I enjoyed all the characters and how she in-visions the darkness inside oneself to the lightness that can be there as well.

I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS

Wow! I absolutely love this series! Book 1 (Token Huntress) was a fantastic read, so I was ready for book 2! Book 2 (Token Vampire) did not disappoint in the least! I love a good vampire story. The book was very well written. I was hooked from page one all the way to the end!

Esmore finds herself on the run from the human compound. She is now a target of the Hunter's Guild. She hides in Cesar's coven with her familiar, Chase. Only Chase can keep her demons at bay. Esmore decides to return to the human colony. With the help of others, she finds out the true reason for Whitney's death. Learning that all the rules and guidelines that she has grown up with no longer apply, Esmore's life is forever changed. What has Esmore become? What destiny lies ahead of her? How does Chase help her?

I highly recommend this book. If you are a lover of vampire stories like I am, you will love this series! I look forward to reading so much more by this author!

This was a great read. Although there were some minor spelling errors it wasn't enough to distract from the book. As Esmore struggles with the changes in her life she continues to deny the gunners her new reality demands. Unfortunately this just makes her a danger not only to those around her but also to herself. She is driven to find a safe place for her friends while at the same time helping to revenge Whitney's death. I would of liked to see more character development of Chase and hope the next in the series will achieve this. There is a cliff hanger at the end so I'm hoping it won't be long before the next book.

Ms. Carrington-Russell's writing is vivid, emotional and leaves you dreaming of her character's and the plot lines twist and turn with ease and keep you turning pages. Her descriptive writing makes the future seem dark and sad at times - then hopeful and laughing. A great mixture of love, laughter and angst the next page.

If you are in the market for a stellar PNR - this one is definitely worth the time - I do suggest that you read the books in order so you are more invested in the first page then I was. I look forward to seeing what happens next. Well done.

Amazing!! Read it now!!!

Kia does it again! This is book 2 of the Token Huntress series and it was so amazing. The storyline flowed really good and had so many twists and turns that doesn’t disappoint. The new characters are very well written and described that I love them all. There’s still a lot of great surprises with the characters as they slowly unravel with their own backgrounds. I laughed, screamed, cried and got upset as well as several other emotions that I felt I was in it. Amazing job Kia and thanks for sharing your amazing talent. Now onto book 3!!

This is an amazing continuation of the 1st book. Esmore the main character has learned of a family she knows nothing about. She has to learn to deal with being a vampire and how to handle a power she hasn’t learned to use. The emotions that she feels the author has made you feel. The action and excitement is gripping to the point you don’t want to put the book down.

Token Vampire continues with the adventures of heroine Esmore, who originally belonged to a community of genetically-modified humans trained to hunt down and kill all vampires.

This she can no longer do, as not only has she fallen in love with the Enemy, the vampire Chase Bourne, but the vampirism she inherited from her true father has also become apparent.

Esmore can still use her Hunter skills to lead vampires in territorial disputes against other vampire clans. She now has a new mentor she is required to prove herself to - the elder Tythian. There are also interests against her beloved Chase to resolve and captive hunters from her old community to protect.

Esmore can superficially still pass for human and so, infiltration and espionage into a human community also become part of her mission. Humans are not above carrying out inhumane experiments on captive Hunters.

Esmore as a young woman has a great deal to accomplish, whilst perhaps still being unable to acknowledge that her biggest challenge may well lie within - to be able to tame her new and untried vampirism. She will have cause to rue her hubris in this respect.

This story ends in a cliff hanger. And there is more to come.

This is an engaging read, though I did feel that the book suffers from the lack of a good editor - grammatically things are still a little rough-hewn here in places. This is a post-nuclear apocalypse story and there are times when I would have preferred to have seen a little less action and more description of this bleak, post-holocaust world and how it came out to its present state. That possibly won't bother those who enjoy all the gory battling and fighting that takes place here, though.

*Free copy was given by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Well, book 2 picks up just as books 1 leaves off. And what a ride.

With a whole new family to contend with and her Hunter companions safety to assure, Esmore is now becoming more accepting of her new self, even as she is battling her internally for control. She does have her familiar, though, he is always there to help in chasing (pun intended) or even f*&^%$g the blues away. TBH, I think that this story would have been much stronger had the romance taken a backseat to everything else that was going on, the world has so much potential that I feel was just lost to Esmore and Chase just sucking and f*&^%$g.

When self-named Yolo, again another eye-rolling moment here, introduced Esmore to his gift I got a little excited, the gifts the Hunters have, and the ones the vampires have and how they get them are one of the most interesting parts of this world to me, and when she accompanied him whilst he infiltrated the human camp he was moonlighting at, I got really excited. To see what some of the humans were getting up to whilst vampires were running wild was great. It was heartbreaking but at the same time, they were desperate. I felt a little conflicted over their activities, in the same way I do somewhat about similar topics in the real world.

This second volume of the story was action packed and really got going with showing us what Esmore could now do, even as she finds herself almost a fugitive on the run. She is now the hunted and not just by vampires.

Warning, this one does end on a cliffhanger, so make sure you have book 3 handy before you start it.

“Token Vampire” is the second book in the “Token Huntress” dystopian UF series by Kia Carrington-Russell, set in an urban fantasy universe, in which vampires came exposed themselves to public view in the early twentieth century, and changed the balance of power between humans and supernaturals.

In this second installment Esmore (Token Huntress and MC) has to come to terms with the unearthed secrets of the Hunter’s Guild. Hidden within Cesar’s coven, after the Guild, Esmore struggles with her transformation, barely able to fight the newly bloodlust seizures while only able to rely on Chase, her familiar. Meanwhile the world seems to be after her and demand his demise .

The story evolves seamlessly from the events depicted in the previous book and develops organically targeting on Esmore’s struggle to come to terms with her new situation, without neglecting the action story arc. This is great series that will appeal to both fans of vampire lore and dystopia equally. Although the series heavily focus on Esmore’s character, it also offers carefully crafted realistic and relatable secondary character, a very interesting plot, fast-paced action, unexpected twists and a cliffhanger-end that will have readers running to the bookshop to get the next one 😉

Writing this after two months with a decent memory means this book isnt scoring less than a 4. Esmore's story ended on a cliff hanger in the first book and bursts through with more character development in this second novel. With Esmore's own world in tatters and having emerged into the vampire world Esmore does her best to get herself back up the pecking order. Utilising her new skills she almost acts as a double agent but now on her own terms and morals.

There is a lot more action in this as it climaxes to the end and the question is does it have a HEA. It does quite well on that score and I feel quite satisfied by the ending. UNfortunately despite its solidity and good twists and tropes it wasnt one of the biggest wow reads for me this year. I do want to explore what the author has read otherwise and I look forward to seeing where she goes.
