That First Mistake

Rate this book
A drunken, late night phone call from his twenty-two year old son has Grant Forena driving hundreds of miles to knock some sense into him. Instead he finds himself butting heads with the most stunning young woman he’s ever seen. McKay Priestly is fierce, strong, and captivating in ways Grant never expected. She’s also taken, by his son.

Grant blames McKay for his son’s reckless behavior, but something else drives his anger and harsh words. McKay feels the same impossible chemistry. To act on it would be crazy, but ignoring it doesn’t make the ache go away. Any time spent in each other’s company is a mistake, every gaze carries words they wouldn’t dare speak out loud. But restraint can only go so far. Something has to give and when it finally does, it sets off an emotional bomb of heartbreak that began with that very first mistake.

A Caribbean transplant, Avril now lives in Stone Mountain, GA., with a tolerant Spousal Equivalent. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who loves reading and school (not so much school anymore). Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing plot points of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother

Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. Spicy love scenes, delicious heroes, and wicked women burn up the pages of Avril’s stories, but there’ll always be a happy ending; Av remains a believer of love in all its forms.

Whew chile. Super sex-ay taboo romance. Heroine is a little older than her boyfriend. She's not that into him. Boyfriend's dad (who is the hero of the book) think she is bad for the son since it is clear the son has deeper feelings for her than she does for him.

And oh by the way the dad has the hots for the girlfriend, like right away from the minute he meets her. And ditto. They let the heat sizzle a little while also butting heads.

But the body wants what the body wants and they just can't stay away. After some guilt and push/pull they acknowledge the heat is just too hot and start knocking boots. But they also acknowledge it is a bit more than heat. Oh noes.... what to do?

I liked the on page chemistry of the hero and heroine. And I especially liked that they were both very mature about confronting their feelings and understanding that if they wanted what they had to be something real they would end up hurting the ex-boyfriend/son. I am also gratified that the author did not go the cliche route but rather let the whole thing play out in an emotionally honest way.

I AM HOOKED! Hooked on this book. Hooked on the romance between McKay and Grant. Hooked on those hawt, hawt sex scenes. Hooked on Grant, all by himself. And hooked on Avril Ashton. The romance between Grant and McKay was taboo in the sense that she was initially involved romantically with Grant's 22 y/o son until... The characters and the situation were so real, I felt their angst. I thought there was only one way this story would end...very, very badly.

This is a MUST read! Make sure you have plenty of time to read and savor this book cause you won't be able to put it down. And make sure you have a cold glass of something to cool you down while reading. Afterwards, you may even need a cigarette or two.

This is my first but definitely not my last Avril Ashton novel. She has a true blue fan here. Now on to my next AA book!

My goodness, I couldn't believe I had this book on my kindle for years but never opened it. What I missed is a story that leaves me with a writhing yearning that has me panting for more.

A compelling and chilling story about a couple who make a mistake and are afraid of the repercussions if their ex/son finds out about their relationship. In spite of this, it is a fast-paced story with great characters.

In this book, the relationships were beautifully developed, and the development and transformation of Mckay and Grant's relationship was fascinating to watch. There was nothing hotter than their scene together. Their passionate embrace filled the pages.

I loved how authentic and emotional Ms. Ashton's writing was. You felt for both characters because of how she made you feel. There's a taboo aspect to this where you know it can't work out for both characters, but you still root for them to get together.

This is the kind of book I crave, call for, and this has delivered. While the novel features very specific plots and settings, it is simultaneously a deeply symbolic experience.

After reading the beginning and reaching the end, Ms Ashton definitely won over my heart and is now one of my favorite authors.

Intriguing, has action, sex, betrayal, and more, it's a good story that will leave you wanting more.

Recommend strongly.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH POR DIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!!!!
Mis dedos todavía están mojados!!! jajaja No. Lo. Puedo. Creer. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!! (Cuidado con el spoiler)
Estoy fascinada, encantada y enojada!!! Duuuuuh! Como sea, es un libro ardiente. Me encantó jaja bueno, Grant me encantó. Aunque al final ellos no... pero ni modo, su primer error les llevó a ese final.

Only Avril Ashton could make me want to read a book that is not M/M! The blurb sounded too good to pass, so I didn't and I'm glad I didn't.

Wow! My God. I need ice water, a cold shower and at least three hours alone. This book is hot. I’m talking flaming. This author gave us scorching touching, sizzling kisses and burn me, baby! *Insert a couple gulps of ice water* That’s on top of a fantastic, if taboo, plot that was so well written. I wasn’t sure if taboo was my thing but sweet lord, the author made sure I’d love it. This book is so freaking hot! I love how real the ending felt. It wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. It was gritty and messy and honest. FULL REVIEW: http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/reviews/...

Grant and McKay

Grant and McKay's story is one crazy ride. The premise of the story is shocking in itself. A father falling for his son's ex girlfriend and having a hot, steamy affair could be a turnoff but it's not. It is a hot, erotic read that is impossible to put down.

Another great read by an amazing author.

The author clearly stated that this is a sex-story not love-story. So if you’re looking for feel-good romance with an HEA, you will be disappointed. But if you’re craving balls-to-wall, panty dripping, hot-as-fuck, taboo sex, then you have found nirvana. It even had a decent story.

If you’re into older man, taboo, and raunchy sex, then I highly recommend. Enjoy 😉.

Este libro se me hizo un poco parecido a uno de Penelope Douglas, fue una lectura interesante pero le falto algo 🤷‍♀️ sentí que el final fue muy apresurado y quedaron muchas cosas sin resolver.

I like my action. Erotica. Shifters. Vamps. Weres. Menages. Romantic suspense. Dark romance. But what I really enjoy is the simplicity of a contemporary romance where two folks just fall in love and try to figure out how to what seems like an impossible romance work.

When I downloaded That First Mistake, I realized that it was my first Avril Ashton MF (in love with her MM series). Also, I didn’t know what to expect as I only looked at the appealing cover (covers really do matter) and barely read the story blurb.

Quick warning. Some mild spoilers. That Mistake

Our hero Grant Forena is called down to Panama City from his home in Charleston, South Carolina when he gets word that his 22-year old son Seth is hospitalized after a drinking accident during college break . Seth hits the bottle and his head when his girlfriend McKay, our heroine, doesn’t take it well when she says no to his marriage proposal.

Beautiful, sarcastic, sexy, and self confident. That’s what I liked and fangirled about McKay. She is 27, works as an executive assistant to her brother Mike who owns a software firm. She takes no shit from Grant when he demands that she breaks up completely with his son after he meets her.

Proverbial sparks really fly after he kisses her unexpectedly a couple days later in hospital parking lot after they both finished visiting Seth who is on the mend. Hot lust flames that leaves Grant apologetic and McKay guilty, horny and confused. But love will have its way as Grant refused to stop going after her and McKay stopped fighting the inevitable.

While short, That One Mistake is a well told journey of how Grant and McKay make it to the HEA. Along the way, there are some good friends who deserve their own story like McKay’s BFF Drea. Sam, Grant’s road dog, made such an impression, albeit brief. So hopefully we can expect more of him or these two together.

Lastly, Avril readers know how she can whip up some sexy ass sex scenes. And wow, does she beat the hell out of these! Oh my, Grant’s ultra talented tongue should be in a museum, preserved or enshrined in something. I am at a lost for words with how well Avril details Grant’s skill of oral sex. He doesn’t eat, he devours. And McKay brought it too. She was as bold as he, taking the lead, demanding and giving as good as she was getting. Completely embracing being a woman and her womanhood.

Thanks Avril for showing how sexy a 40 plus year old man can be.

I don't know what to say. It was really a great read. With a little taboo element.

McKay & Grant road to happiness wasn't easy. How can you go from...:
* ...ending relationship and starting new one with your ex dad;
* ...starting relationship with your son's ex.

It's really wasn't easy for both of them. To make up your mind, if this what they are having, is worth the damage it would done to another person. They fought it. Damn they tried. But the passion, emotions were much stronger.

I was rooting for McKay and Grant from the beginning. They were meant to be together. Desire between them.... I was feeling it. It felt like those emotions where directed at me. It was so strong. Liked interaction between them out of the bed. Or kitchen. Or wall. Lol.

The one problem I found is the end. I felt like there should have been added more few chapters. Or there should be a novella. Because there were some things left unfinished.

First of all, this book had some of the hottest sex romps and plenty of it! This book had so much of it that I was bothered by how it seemed like it was all that this couple, Grant and McKay (I hate that name) was looking forward to when they're getting together. I was on the edge of my seat at how they were going to break their relationship to the hero's son and the heroine's ex Seth. The book has done a great job developing Seth's character, demonstrating his fragility and how he grew up with Grant and his mother. I appreciated the bittersweet and satisfying ending. Generally, this was a very well told erotic story which made me think of Jeffery Dean Morgan and Yaya DaCosta portraying the main characters. 😆 For that, I give this 3.5 stars.

I really liked the book but was a bit disappointed in the ending. I felt like more could have been written. It was almost a cliff hanger to me. otherwise the book and the real struggle to be happy was great. Grant and McKay's relationship is what we would consider taboo for me that was a big draw into reading this book. It isn't an every day romance that we're used to but it is a romance. I always love the twists that Avril Ashton gives. As always I'll be reading more of her books.

That First Mistake is a winner in my book. Again the only issue I had was that I felt that there could have been more at the end.

Hot erotic romance

This story was great example of my title. Although I didn't agree with the MC's relationship I definitely understand you can't help who you fall in love with. I would have given this a 5star rating if Seth's mom would have reacted and cussed out McKay and also should have had a better ending.

HOT HOT HOT! That's pretty much all I can say. No, I take that back. I felt bad for poor Seth. That kind of betrayal will take some time to get over. On other hand, McKay and Grant burned up the sheets with their love making...and also the floor and the couch.

This isn't my first book by Avril Ashton so I knew what I was getting in to. I was not disappointed.

This book was AMAZING! I love how it wasn't categorized as an Interracial Romance, and that it just turned out to be one. This book was really raw and you can feel the passion in every page. Definitely 5 stars!!
