Good book with some interesting parallels to some of today's issues. Kino and his brother Clay are temporarily working with a group called Shadow Wolves. They are excellent trackers who help hunt down and stop drug smugglers who use illegal immigrants to move their drugs. Kino also has a personal mission to find the drug lord who had murdered his father years earlier. He's certain that the man in his rifle sights is the Viper, when a woman gets between him and his target.
Lea is a volunteer with a group that sets up water stations in the desert for people who may need it, whether they are legal or not. She had simply stopped to talk to the man on the side of the road when he aimed his gun at her. She was certain she was going to die when shots broke her windshield and mirrors, but the man with the gun ran. Terrified by the sight of dead bodies and another man with a gun, it took her a bit to accept that he was one of the good guys. Kino was furious that his chance at stopping the Viper had been ruined, but knows that Lea is now a target. He is determined to protect the only person who can identify him.
The initial interactions between Kino and Lea were really interesting. First, there was an immediate physical connection, with both of them feeling attracted to the other. But they were on totally opposite sides when it came to their work. Kino is a man who lives a violent life with his work in law enforcement. He knows that it sometimes takes force to stop those with evil intentions. He also has a fairly one sided view of the war on drugs, looking at the illegals who transport the drugs as part of the problem. He has no sympathy for what they go through. Lea is a pacifist, who hates violence of any kind. She doesn't care if the people crossing the desert are criminals, she sees them as people first. She is willing to break the law to make sure the water stations are taken care of.
She wasn't happy to be stuck with Kino until the danger she was in became deadly obvious. As the two of them were forced into each other's company they began to get to know each other. Both are Apache and have that in common, but their differences create a strain between them. As Kino takes Lea from place to place in an effort to keep her safe, the chemistry between them continues to heat up. As they work together to try to discover the identity of the Viper, both of them begin to see things from the other's point of view. I loved seeing Lea accept that there are times when violence cannot be avoided, and that people like Kino are vital to the safety of all. It was also interesting to see how Lea's influence opened Kino's eyes to what his thirst for vengeance was doing to his own life. There were some other issues between them relating to Lea's background that could have kept them apart. Though Kino's initial responses to them weren't always what I had hoped, I liked the way that he was eventually able to look at them differently.
The suspense of the story was very good, with an increasing amount of action that kept me riveted to the pages. There were multiple possibilities as to who the Viper could be, and it seemed that every time they got close, the leads wound up dead. It was really interesting to see how tensions between various agencies added to the difficulties in following up on potential clues. The final confrontation was intense, with some really scary moments involving rattlesnakes too. Even their escape wasn't a sure thing, and Kino's determination to save Lea had problems of its own. The ending was very satisfying.
I loved getting to know a little about Kino's brothers. Clay has the most page time in this book. Some of his conversations with Lea give her a different way of looking at Kino and his actions. I liked the obvious closeness of the Cosen brothers, and how important family is to them all. There is an interesting storyline involving a missing sister and their search for her. It wasn't resolved in this book, and I suspect it will run through all four. I'm looking forward to the other stories and seeing how this ends up.
I enjoyed the setting of the Tohono O’odham Apache lands. There was just enough information given to pique my curiosity, so I googled them and checked out the website (http://www.tonation-nsn.gov/default.aspx). That added a little more depth to the story and made it even more enjoyable.

A captivating story about the Apache trackers called Shadow Wolves, working on the US border. The drug smuggling, illegal aliens, watering stations all brought interesting, anew point of views and insights to the currently very popular themes.
The history and customs of the Apache Indians was fascinating, all from justice, family, and marriage the information was engrossing, and give more insights and respect of the nation often overlooked.
The story has alluring characters, and everyone was a suspect, you really couldn't trust no one. The connection between the brothers is unique, the care, love, and respect honorable
Kino and Lea have a fragile connection, the differences they have between their ideology is setting them apart. The surprisingly similar faith with their parents has made the make a path opposite of each other.
Slowly the trust builds between them, carefully the feelings grow between them, and the attraction they have had for each other since the first moment they saw each other, soon fully blooms, and can't be denied anymore.
The constant danger, the threat to Lea's life, and Kino's hunt for his father's killer, the Apache culture, and the budding romance all gives the story intensity, energy, and depth. The charming brothers, with their amazing ability for tracking, allure the reader's mind, and this will be an interesting, powerful series to be followed

Shadow Wolf, Jenna Kernan’s debut Harlequin Intrigue novel is suspenseful, informative and engaging. The author weaves a convincing tale as the story unfolds. In Shadow Wolf, we meet Kino Cosen, the hero, who is tracking a drug lord by the name of Viper who had murdered his father in front of him years ago. It is on Kino’s quest for revenge and his search for his father’s killer that Lea Atlaha walks into his life. Kino wants to protect Lea from danger yet he is forced to take her along with him because she knows the identity of the Viper…
Constantly in each other’s presence a special and strong bond forms between Kino and Lea. Their romance blossoms amid danger. However, they have each other’s back every step of the way.
In the book we also meet Kino’s brothers who play vital roles in the story.
Overall, Shadow Wolf is a good solid book and a strong debut in the Intrigue line for author Jenna Kernan. With great dialogue, good writing, likable characters and informative prose especially about the Apache Indians, I look forward to reading the future books in the series.

I loved the back drop of the reservation for mystery, intrigue, and romance. The suspense kept me turning pages and the love story kept me interested. The issues of The Apache traditions in love and justice were handled so well that I gained a new understanding and respect. A fast read but you may enjoy so much you turn around and read again. A good read.

Amid the sweltering heat of the Sonoran Desert, Kino meets Lea, the heroine in Jenna Kernan’s, Shadow Wolf. They are instantly attracted to one another despite their ideological differences and despite being witnesses to a horrific crime. Kino, the soldier, lawman and elite tracker, does not immediately understand the perfectly humane, justice-hungry Lea who bends laws to suit her purpose. But, there’s no denying the overwhelming chemistry between them, and they’re both Apache. As they are pursued by the Viper, a ruthless drug lord dealing on Tohono O’odham tribal land, they are forced to flee and shelter in a series of safe houses. Alone, and in close quarters, Kino and Lea are given every opportunity to act on their desires.
In typical Jenna Kernan fashion, the novel is solidly researched and well-paced, revealing the story in a progression of vignettes. The book presents a slice of the highly politicized border control issues that exist between the U.S. and Mexico and introduces characters that are a reflection of the diverse population that exists in Arizona.
The Viper proves to be elusive, hiding in plain sight and orchestrating a grand scheme that stretches far beyond the reservation. He continues to strike at Lea, killing those in his path and those who know too much. With loyalties in question, Kino is able to count on his brother, Clay and an uncle in the FBI to have his back. I was touched by Lea’s compassion as she prays for the lost souls of the illegal aliens who are unwitting pawns in the trafficking operations. Her actions fundamentally change Kino. He realizes that he has wasted years chasing the Viper while his family is what really matters. He can only move forward if he is willing to forgive the killer, and himself. You will find yourself cheering as Kino and Lea ultimately give in to each other and find love. I enjoyed Shadow Wolf and look forward to reading more from Jenna Kernan.

Shadow Wolf by Jenna Kernan, her first Harlequin Intrigue novel is suspenseful, sexy and pretty engaging. In Shadow Wolf, we are introduced to Kino Cosen, an elite Apache tracker, the hero, who is tracking a drug lord named Viper, that had murdered his father in front of him several years ago. You are also introduced to Kino’s brothers who play vital roles in the story. Kino’s journey for revenge search for his father’s killer leads him to meet Lea Atlaha. Lea came face to face with Viper and Kino wants to protect her from danger because this man is just that, danger. He is forced to take her along because she is the only one to have seen Viper’s face.
Kino and Lea are complete opposites, and continually together on this search and amid the danger there is a spark between them. They are there for each other every step of the way forming a bond that appears to go beyond just romance.
This book has an easy dialogue and is informative especially about the Apache Indians.
I love the story! I read it pretty quickly, even though suspense isn’t my normal read. It kept me wanting to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the others in this series. I really think that you would enjoy this book!

I absolutely loved Shadow Wolf. It was fascinating, intriguing, and kept me on my toes. I absolutely loved Kino and Lea. Their character development, their chemistry, their everything. The characters are far from perfect which I loved. Kino is on a mission to find his father's killer and put him down for good. He doesn't think we should help Mexican immigrants cross the border, but Lea wants to do everything she can help them survive. Despite their differences, Lea learns that she must trust Kino in protecting her when things get life-threatening. I personally don't know a ton about Indian Reservations and their tribes, but I found it fascinating. The plot is suspsenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next. Next thing you know, you've finished the book.
This is definitely not a family friendly book. I loved it, but we do deal with drug cartels and such. There is also one brief sex scene which I skipped over

Not a bad start to a series. We get to know one brother and the hint of future brothers and plots are introduced (the missing sister, etc). I'm going to refrain from voicing my opinion on some aspects touched on in this book as I feel it's too political for a Harlequin romance review. That being said, it was a quick read and I'm interested in the next book and brother, so will probably continue.

She was headstrong and stubborn apache / Mexican woman that didn't belong to any clan.
He was a stubborn, determined apache vowing to find and kill the man that killed his father.
Kino released now that he must protect Leah, since she has now seen the man that killed his father!
Romance blossomed and Leah began to understand his revenge but helped him to see it wasn't necessary. Kino, began to understand egg Leah was working the job she was.
They may get the killer, but they found peace and love along the way!
Read the rest of the books to hear more about Clay, who helps a woman while going against the tribe. Gabe and the woman mixed in with cartels that he never stopped loving, and lastly Clyine, man of tradition fighting an Angelo FBI agent who had adopted their sister, Jovanna.
4 law abiding apache men who saved the women they came to love, while protecting their tribe and finding their baby sister.
He was a stubborn, determined apache vowing to find and kill the man that killed his father.

This is the 2nd book I read by Jenna Kernan. This book's storyline was okay. The action in this story was okay. I liked Kino's character. I liked Clay's character. Lea's character was okay. The ending was okay.

I liked it but I kinda of wished that it was more a romance and less a romantic suspense/mystery.

I liked the characters. Kino Cosen and Lea Atlaha. They were so opposite in there lives. Kino is a warrior he is tracking smugglers. His job back home is a cop on the reservation. Lea is a pacifist. She feels water barrels for the people who are tempted to cross the desert in summer. She is not afraid to break laws for the greater good. Kino wants to kill the drug lord known as Viper who killed his father.
Lea is the first witness to live who knows what Viper looks like. That is because Kino saved her. Now Viper wants her dead. Kino wants to keep her safe so he can find him.
I can see how the debate over water in desert for illegals. I would rather see water for the innocent. How scary to cross it. How the drug lords don't care for the people they get to carry there drugs for them.
There is lots of drama, action, a sex scene and a mystery for the Cosen family that I want to see how that works out.
I was given this ebook to read by Netgalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Shadow Wolf.

I really enjoy reading a tight, suspense filled romantic thriller. They satisfy that need in myself to prove that love really goes conquer all. But they have to be well written because content errors will pull me out the story quicker then a bucket of cold water.
Unfortunately, I found errors in SHADOW WOLF. When someone breaks a door down, I have to wonder just how they are able to dead bolt it five minutes later without fixing the frame. Or why there are a few sentences that contradict themselves all in the same paragraph. So love might conquer all but errors in the story line.
I really can't recommend this book to my readers because it was a struggle to finish it. As soon as I would start to get back into the story, I would thrown back out of the story. It does looks like it would be a good book but it really needs to be reworked.

This is the first book in a series that is a great way to start a series. It has plenty of action and is full of twists and turns that don’t stop until the very end. It also gives readers an interesting view of Native Americans and what life is like on the rez. This should prove to be an interesting series and will have readers wanting to read more about this family and the life they lead.

Jenna Kernan's debut novel in the Harlequin Intrigue line does NOT disappoint! It's full of intrigue and mystery and has you second guessing who you think the bad guy is several times throughout the story.

This book does not disappoint. I'm an avid reader of mysteries and suspense and this book by author Jenna Kernan held my attention the whole time. I loved reading a book set in my own backyard (southern Arizona) and loved learning about the Shadow Wolves and the Apache Tribe. The suspense kept me turning the pages and I liked the interaction between Lea and Kino.
There is a subplot about a younger sister that Kino and his brothers thought was dead, but recently discovered she was alive. I'm excited to read the rest of the series to find out where this part of the story goes.
A big thumbs up to Jenna Kernan for a great romantic suspense novel! I'm really excited to read the next novel, Hunter Moon.

Fun read in the Apache Protectors series by Jenna Kernan, a new to me author. Kino has been tracking the man who killed his father for years and as an elite tracker he's finally getting the opportunity to find his vengeance. Until Lea walks right in to an ambush and almost becomes a target herself. Kino knows that Lea is the answer to the puzzle that has been haunting him for years but when she becomes the target he knows he'll do anything to protect her. Even give up on his dreams or revenge. I did have some confusion with geography and culture but all that does is make me curious and I had to do a little learning on my own. Outside of that, fun read!

What a great romantic suspense novel. And a wonderful match of opposites within the world of modern-day Apache culture...Clay is deeply embedded in his family of lawmen and protectors. Isabel is a "no-clan" outsider because her mother was Mexican. He is out for revenge on his father's killer, she's a pacifist who can identify that killer. She becomes the stalked. Written with high tension, respect and understanding. And very sexy! These young lovers struggle with their differences even as they begin to understand each other. Jenna Kernam writes about smart, good people, trying to get over past hurts to help each other.

November 20, 2015Suspense isn't my thing, but the author (or publisher) did a really good job on the blurb and I wanted to read it. The author has a delicious command of her prose and her metaphors. It was a delight to read. However, as I said, suspense isn't my thing and it took too long for the romance to kick in. I got to 40% and Hogsquealed -Spiderwick Chronicles reference that means I clicked to another book.

Shadow Wolf by Jenna Kernan is her first debut novel in the Harlequin Intrigue series. I loved this book and the information of the Apache trackers named Shadow Wolves was very intriguing to me. A fast paced book that holds your interest keeps you satisfied. Will look forward to continue on with more of Jenna's work.

The desert is a dangerous place. Lea Atlaha works to help legal immigrants from dieing of thirst in the dessert they cross. Kino Cosin's is working on a project for Border Patrol to track a drug runner in the dessert. They are at cross purposes but join together to stop a killer. Loved this book and will look for all this authors books.

This was recommended to me by Amazon Kindle. I always enjoy a good romantic suspense, so decided to give it a try. "Shadow Wolf" is #1 in Jenna Kernan's Apache Protectors Series. I was hooked from the first page and raced through this fast-paced book. Then I promptly bought the next book in the series, "Native Born." I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Another great read from Jenna Kernan. This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. If you like action mixed in with your romance, this is a great book for you. I definitely recommend this book.

I won't go into detail about the story.....just say that this is the first in a four book series..... and I enjoyed it very much. Besides being a good read it's also very imformative about some of the ways of the Apache people. Looking forward to reading the second in the series.

Enjoyed the adventure and the message of "Family First". Highly recommend this book. A real page turned, once you start reading it hard to put down.
