Summer isn’t the only thing heating up in Blackstone Bay, and Maddie Graves and Nick Winters are struggling to deal with both the weather and another murder. While out for a run with her friend Christy, Maddie stumbles upon a ghost near a local lighthouse. When Nick and Maddie go back to check the scene, they find an abandoned body belonging to a missing mother. While and Maddie and Nick are determined to solve the murder – and put a tortured soul to rest – the rest of the town is focused on something much more the senior beauty pageant. Maude Graves and Harriet Proctor are going head-to-head in Blackstone Bay’s version of a popularity contest, and the town is a virtual shooting gallery as they work against each other to gain allies. Maddie’s attention is diverted by the murdered women’s daughter, a lost soul in her own right, and her grandmother’s constant antics. Between Maude and her new friend – and the danger lurking around every corner trying to stop Maddie from discovering the truth – mayhem is the name of the game. Can Maddie survive another close call or will Nick lose the one thing he’s ever truly loved?

Could be a good series

Just because a book is a cozy does not mean that I want to read 500 "I love you's" in every single book in this series. Ms. Hart, your humor isn't snarky but the repetition of love is sickening. I've written few negative reviews but I so wish this author could leave out the teenage love from almost 30 yr old because this series would of been good. These books have good mysteries if only I was not skipping sections to avoid the annoying parts.

Time to end this series

I started off liking the series. Sadly I liked each following book less and less. If I lived in this town I would be moving immediately. There are so murders in this small town that it must be the murder capital of the state. Frankly by now I don't even like Maddie. She always thinks the boyfriend is leaving her which is annoying. Makes it hard to buy the great love affair if she can't trust. She also doesn't keep her word to Nick about not running into danger all the time. Tired of her. A long running series needs more than just repeating the first book only with different killers.

Good little read

I gave it 4 stars because it's a good light hearted read, However Nick & Maddie are a bit too juvenile considering how old they actually are. Also I think her powers need to be growing but they don't and Nick is kind of a wuss to be a cop. She needs to be a bit more assured too.

Hmm

This is a good enough storyline, I didn't even guess who the killer was which is always a good thing. The series books always have rather long-winded boring
conversations between Maddie and nick. They go on and on, same type of conversation same type of issue, I have become bored with it so won't be continuing the series.

This series is fun for a quick read with a little mystery. The author is very repetitive with certain words and phrases. I think having the female antagonists having a severe crush on Nick in every story is too much. I did like this storyline with Chelsea and David.

The Summer heat is driving everyone insane. So crazy, in fact, that Granny Maude and her arch nemesis Harriet are taking their war to the local high school gymnasium for the ultimate showdown- a beauty pageant. While coming to terms with her grandmother’s antics, Maddie must also help the ghost of a murdered mother and her grieving daughter.

Lily Harper Hart writes cozy mysteries that are big on romance. The author very clearly warns her readers that she is a romantic at heart and loves happy endings. I think Nick and Maddie’s relationship is proof of that.

“I love you, Nicky.”

“Maddie, you have no idea how much I love you,” Nick whispered. “You’re my home. You always have been. No more fighting, though. If we do, we’re making up before we separate. “I don’t think either of us can go through this again.”

“That sounds a little co-dependent.”

“Everyone has struggles, Mad,” Nick said. “If being co-dependent means we’re happy, then I can live with it.”

“Me too.”

They’re cute and sweet and their love story is the backdrop to the series. Sometimes it can be a little distracting, however, especially when their backstory gets rehashed multiple times in every addition to the series. Good thing it’s a cute story to tell.

The mystery in this one is interesting, even if not the hardest one to solve. There are two main police suspects and a couple other suspects that are brought in. A couple red herrings are introduced to mix it up; and readers are distracted by the amusing pageant show shenanigans.

Maddie’s personal growth continues in this instalment as she becomes increasingly less self-conscious and is even able to convincing lob some snark back at her own nemesis, Marla. Best friend Christy is also trying new things as she embarks on her own journey of self-development. The only character who is desperately crying out for some help is Nick’s ex-girlfriend, Cassidy. I wish the author could raise the maturity level of this character a little, as I fear she will simply become the overused, parodied ex-girlfriend figure, as opposed to a secondary character that adds to the overall richness of the story.

My favourite part of the story:
Maddie and Nick getting caught while skinny-dipping.

Least favourite part of the story:
Cassidy and Nick’s continued feud.

I really like this series and this sixth book. I suggest you start from the beginning if you want to enjoy it best.

Grave Pageant

As Maddie takes Christy out running in the crazy heatwave they pass the lighthouse. Abandoned, falling into ruin and locked up to prevent trespassers Maddie still sees a ghost hovering by the window.

Nick goes with her to investigate and realising that the door has been jimmied the two enter and discover a badly decomposed body.

In the meantime, Maude has decided to enter the Trout Queen pageant, having discovered that her nemesis Harriet Proctor is determined to win. Maddie and Nick are humouring Maude in the hope she might get fed up but Christy is acting as her "pageant mother" and there's no chance Maude will stop.. she's just got to find a talent!!

As Dale and Nick investigate and discover the name of the victim, Andrea Johnson, several things catch their attention.. it wasn't her husband who reported her missing it was Chelsea her 16 year old daughter, Andrea's car is still missing, her husband Rick is dating Monica Gardiner, who's reputation is as bad as Marla's and Andrea was dating David Bennett. He's now dating Cassidy.. is Cassidy in danger again? How can Nick investigate without Cassidy going off the deep end again?

As an overwhelmed Chelsea asks Maddie to talk to her mother's ghost, she jumps to conclusions seeing Maddie talking to David and makes a big mistake. The girls lucky she's not arrested for her actions as an increasingly equally overwrought Cassidy wants.

As false leads, a confused ghost and pageant practice all continue to distract the investigation it's going to be a discovery by Chelsea that leads to the killer but it's going to put both her and Maddie directly in the path of danger.. can Nick get there in time to prevent a bigger tragedy?

Maddie and Christy are out for a work out when they decide to pass by an old lighthouse. Maddie sees a ghost of a woman, but doesn't go and investigate. Later her and Nick go back and discover the body of a woman. She has been there for about 2 months, basically the entire time that she has been mising. While investigating they end up running into Cassidy.. I was really hoping we had seen the last of her. her attitude toward maddie and nick really annoys me..
Turns out she is dating the guy that went on a few dates with the dead woman. When David ends up buying the lighthouse to fix up after the body is found suspicion falls on him, and after Maddie and he has a conversation about it, Cassidy thinks that Maddie is trying to steal David and again acts like a total idiot.
So while dealing with all this Maude is trying to beat Harriet in a pagent and is also annoyed with maddie that she hasn't been invited on any of her adventures.
Alot of stuff is happening in this one and it keeps you on your toes.

Entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Maddie Graves is a woman in her late 20s who has the ability to see and speak to ghosts and she also has a bit of psychic ability. After living away from her hometown for the past decade she moved back after her mother passed away to live with her grandmother and run her mothers small business. Her best friend since she was in kindergarten was a man name Nick a local police officer/detective. They rekindle their relationship and once again are in love and living the life. Maddie‘s grandmother is a wild character and her best friend a local hairdresser is also a wild character and town gossip. One way or the other Maddie always ends up bumping into a ghost somewhere and it tends to involve some mystery or crime. Along with your family and friends she helps solve those miss recent one way or the other. Always entertaining. Check it out

I pretty much love all of Lily Harper Hart's books. I think this is the 4th series I've read of hers, and they are all fabulous fun. The characters are just outstanding - well developed with real personalities and both strengths and flaws.

Maddie is a sweet person. She's sensitive to what others think of her and her friends, and just wants to live her life in peace and happiness with Nick, her best friend since they were 5. Nick is a police officer, and has loved Maddie his whole life. They reconciled when she returned to town, and have officially moved in together. Even the ex has calmed down, and moved onto another man.

Until that other man become a suspect in a murder...Oh, and Maddie's grandmother is entering the town's beauty pageant.

Can't wait to get back to Blackstone Bay!

Maddie and Nick are so stinkin' adorable! They are schmaltzy, over-the-top, and utterly charming; they make a great personal and investigative team. The mysteries are more intense in this series, which balances the cute factor, but this time it feels more like they stumbled onto the solution. The murderer did fly under my radar and took me by surprise, though. I like that the town seems to be populated with larger than life characters, especially that Granny! This is fun, pure escapism that still leaves me smiling.

Ugh...when will Nick and Maddie grow up? For two people approaching their 30s, they act like they are horny teenagers who can't be with each other all the time. Seriously, what man is so concerned about his partner that he worries they will "get sick" because of the heat?? And throws a fit because she "questioned" a guy they've both known for most of their lives and in BROAD daylight at the library?? I do like these characters tho. These mysteries could be awesome if she'd drop the stupid romance/constant sex theme between Nick and Maddie OR at least throw in a sex scene or two. JMO

GRAVE DISCOVERY (Read in GRAVE FRIGHT Books 4-6)

This book seemed to go by a bit fast. It was a good quick read. Nick' s ex girlfriend shows up with some former angst but not as bad as she is trying to move on.
A ghost is discovered of a women no one (except her daughter) was worried about. Maddie and Nick have their first fight and Nick comes to a decision.

Even though Maddie isn't my favorite she is growing on me and I will continue to read this series as I have enjoyed them.

I guessed right about who the killer was in this book. Maddie is getting braver and more self-confident. She's standing up for herself, too. I like the way her relationship with Nick is progressing. They are becoming so comfortable with each other. Maddie is by far the sweetest, most compassionate character I've met in the Lily Harper Hart books. She's a very likable character. I'm plowing through this series because of that. You'll like this particular story. I highly recommend it.

This is a delightful series!

Loved the storyline and characters. I'm enjoying this series immensely! Started with the Ghostly series and decided to start this one and the Speakeasy series. So glad I did! Also very much enjoying the newest series with several of the female characters from Ms. Hart's other series all together and it also includes their young kids. That series is also interesting!

Lighthouses can be a bad place to be.

Maddie finds out firsthand that old lighthouses can hold more than history. With a new murder to solve the crew is stumped by all the suspects. Granny is entering a beauty pageant and all hands are on deck to help her win. Maddie is growing more with each passing book, and is coming into her own.

Great Mystery and Solution

This book in the series has pathos for anyone grieving a loved one, and plenty of comedy in the form of watching Maude prepare for a beauty pageant. Trust me, the ending is quite satisfying! You definitely will be glad you read this one.

Good one

I’ve wondered what it would be like to see ghosts but after reading what Maddie goes through it seems it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. It does come in really handy for solving murders though if the ghosts could just remember who killed them

Good

The characters are developing depth, the relationships are growing, and the plots remain twisty. Add good, fast paced writing and you have a good read.

Why Amazon insist on 20 words for a review via kindle, I don't know. Especially when I just want to say that I really enjoyed this book.
