Introduction Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, relates the harrowing tale of Louis Zamperini – called Louie – through his appearance at the 1936 Olympic Games, to his adventures as a United States Army Air Force bombardier, to his sufferings as a tortured prisoner of war by the Japanese. Louie endured an airplane crashing into the sea in which eight of his ten crewmates were killed, strafing by a Japanese aircraft while adrift in a life raft for nearly seven weeks, finally reaching land only to find it occupied by enemy forces. Louie survived these and other emergencies only to develop emotional scars which would continue to threaten his survival for years, creating more damage in his mind and his relationships before achieving redemption.

How the book changed you in a major way, who you would recommend it to and why?
This book was very good, as it was very engaging, providing lots of details of the characters of the book and how their life is and how it is going at the moment, with an easier writing style that can be understood effortlessly by anyone. This book changed the way I look at World War 2, with the main character, Louie Zamperini, having to fight in the war losing some friends of his along the battles he fought in. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn a bit more in depth of World War 2, as it provides information for some of the people and their lives and how they were changed by the war. This book can most likely be a great way to learn about the war and some of the inner struggles that many had while fighting.
A description of the history and impact of the book and its author.
The book was written by Laura Hillenbrand, who would go on to sell 5.5 million copies of Unbroken, and was able to be a bestseller book for 183 weeks. The book was written in 2010, and is one of her most famous books. The book was able to garner a lot of attention, and due to this, it was adapted to an onscreen film in 2014 and was generally liked by fans.
The major questions raised by the book and, for fiction, a description of its characters, setting and plot; and
There are a whole lot of questions raised by the book, but I will go for the fact that it questions how much one can endure pain until their breaking point. From the start of the book, it seems like the plot is how Louie is most likely gonna push himself to his breaking point so he can win an Olympia medal, but then it turns a 180 and it ends up being a book about his hardships of World War 2, and him being locked up and tortured by " The Bird " who breaks him mentally and physically throughout.
Observations about the author’s style and voice.
The author provides a lot of details for what is happening, but sometimes I get a little confused of which character is talking at some points, but other than that the style of the author bestows great storytelling of Louie's life. The voice of the author is great as well, because it doesn't have a bunch of crazy words that I don't understand or need to look up in a dictionary to be able to acknowledge what action is taken place, or what a certain character is talking about.

Unbroken tells the true story of Louis Zamperini, a man who survived a plane crash in World War II, drifted at sea for weeks, and was captured by the Japanese and held as a prisoner of war. The book shows how strong he was, not just physically but mentally, as he kept fighting to survive even when things were hardest. It’s inspiring and emotional, and it makes you respect real people who go through unbelievable challenges and still don’t give up.

This was such a great account of such an inspiring story. I never knew how awful the POW camps were in Japan, and reading this story helped open my eyes to the suffering that our soldiers endured. I really enjoyed this book and all that it taught me.
